It has taken me this long to sit and write an update to my first experience which was awesome...the…read moresecond visit was one that had traumatic and devastating effects on both our cat and family...because of the staff involved... in 02/18 our furry purry passed away....it happens..but it is how it happened that disgusts me about this clinic... It is a sad story of distrust and betrayal and heart break and needless suffering and loneliness and inhumanity...and guilt so if this is too strong for you do not read on.. I dedicate this review to Phillie our furrypury who died cruelly and alone because of this clinic.. AS shard we/he had such a great experience the first time that we considered this his vet... so when he sustained a brain injury from a balcony fall he was taken to his clinic. I explained the damage to his brain and bowel howver was taken back with their 'of course we know best' attitude . They gave him meds that made his bowels worse and his shame grew, I shared this with them... every time I spoke to someone they didnt listen because they know best..I had this cat for 10 years I knew what he was like before the fall and after.... he was already old ( 15 by this time) and blind and failing kidneys due to age and he rapidly declined due to this fall which was an unforseeable accident ...though asked landlord to redo balconie as planks are too wide apart... he never fully recovered... after a deep convo with my son we decided to let him die with dignity instead of the increasing anxiety and pain and shame he was in... the clinic just wanted to do blood work. I was clearly upset that my cat was upset and told them the blood test will not change our minds :we wanted Phillie to die with dignity no more pain and suffering.. and shame he had with his new bowel releases.... they wouldnt budge so had to take my cat home devastated...we made him as comfie as possible... but it was too much for me and I was going away for a while.. My son had to take him but because he was blind we set up the spare room for him so it was small enough to get to know without bumping into anything.. his bowels got worse....Sadly he was with a female who just got her own cat and kept them apart which was sad to hear. She didnt want our sick cat near her cat... I didnt know this until after.. however she ignored him all day long ..so he went from being loved /spoiled daily all day long... to only seeing my son after work every day...I feel he thought he was being punished for being so sick... until one day she said to him he didnt cry all day today... my son found him dead under the bed... It took him a month to tell me....2 years to post this... to say this clinic disgusts me is an understatement. Because they refused to listen to the owners of what was best for our pet he died alone and without attention all day... he died without me Nana Gee by his side as he would have had he been put to sleep properly.. He died without my son who loved him deeply.. day in and out he was left with that cold witch ..... until he just died.. having no Nana Gee or son...he died alone and feeling unloved and blind and in pain and confused and shamed... this was avoidable... to this day 2 years later I cant own a pet and never will again as the guilt is too much... This clinic denied my pet to die with dignity to stop his suffering and were more concerned about 50.00 blood tests that would have not changed our minds... we knew our cat they did not but instead I had to give him to my son as I couldnot handle the pain he was in... the one person he knew all most of his life.. he died alone I will never forgive this clinic so yes for the easy stuff they can do for the humane/human stuff they sicken me.. I cant post what I really think of tem but for life my son and I feel guilt that he didnt die with dignity and died alone because of this clinic making the wrong decision...animals like humans have a right to die with dignity... we can never get that back for him....so this review is for him xo our sweet furry purry Phillie.... my sookie babas xo

I had my senior dog there last year to have a lump on the back of his leg tested. They informed me that if I didn't hear from them, then that meant that there was nothing wrong, which I didn't hear from them so I assumed that everything was good. Several months later I noticed the lump was getting bigger so I had called them, only to find out that his sample wasn't even sent off to begin with so then I was offered a discount is what they called it to do the lump removal for $650 I was also told that if something happened within that year, I could go back and get the meds that I needed it, which wasn't the case when I needed antibiotics a few months later for My Other senior dog, I was told no that they would have to examine him again. And you can't even get near his mouth and they also knew that so I'm basically paying for an exam that's not even going to happen because he will not allow you around his face. All I was asking for was the same prescription because he is not well enough to go under sedation and go for surgery due to a heart murmur, don't get me wrong. They're not terrible, but I definitely won't be bringing my animals back there.

Located in Eastern Passage, this vet clinic is open long hours so that you can arrange appointments around your work hours. The staff are friendly and professional, and it's obvious they love their patients. A few years ago, we adopted our first cat Zed from these folks. Although they have discontinued the adoption program, they're still a great resource for pets both young and old. The prices are reasonable, and there is no pressure for add-on services that aren't strictly necessary.

Given they are a 2min drive from my house they were the logical choice for veterinary care for her. I was told by others they are more expensive than other clinics. However, if I don't have to schlep across the city and they are good with my dog then I'm not so fussy on the expense. Before they were officially my vet I unfortunately had to take pupster to the emergency clinic. They, of course, asked who my home vet was. I explained I didn't have one yet (had only had the dog for 3 days) but was hoping to use EPVVC. They faxed over the dog's report from the emerg visit to them anyway. A day later someone from EPVVC called to check up on us, see how pupster was doing. And we weren't even patients of their's at this point! My dog came from a not so great home so has some issues we're working her through. These folks were more than happy to indulge the princess and do things at her pace....and the pockets full of treats seemed to have helped her adjust! She has eventually learned that the vet doesn't always mean bad things, and is quite comfortable going in now. There have been a few times I've needed last minute appointments, once I even showed up without one, and they happily accommodated us. These folks are happy, friendly, polite and most importantly good with my sensitive dog. They get a solid 5 stars from me!

The problem is the high cost, and especially not always disclosing up front what costs will be prior to a procedure. Specifically, our cat had a bite wound and it needed stitching, and the regular vet was unavailable (either it was a weekend or they were booked up, I forget). Normally, Coastal Care vet will give you a printout of the estimated costs of the procedure. This did this, and we were accepting of the estimate (about $1,000 as I recall), but then they asked if we would like them to remove possible bacteria buildup. We thought it was part of the estimated procedure and naively gave verbal consent. As it turned out, this was an extra and more complicated procedure that involved cutting the cat's torso up far beyond the wound, essentially doing exploratory surgery and sewing him up. It ended up costing over $5,000! The vet's assistant who came out to talk to us about this was not clear about the cost involved in this procedure or the extent of the cutting and sewing required. In retrospect, I wonder if this procedure was necessary at all. Not being trained in veterinary medicine, we didn't know. But like getting your car fixed and not knowing anything about automobiles, you can find yourself agreeing to costs that might not be necessary. This is a for-profit business, after all. The cost was so high, it bankrupted us for a few months and it left a huge scar on the poor cat. On the positive side of things, he recovered well and is in good health today. The clinic did a good job. The reality is that if you have a pet you care about, you may be forced to go to an emergency vet like this one, especially if your local vet won't take an emergency case at an odd hour -- but beware that you will have to pay hundreds if not thousands of dollars for the visit. If you can avoid going to these places, I'd advise doing so. The cost can be prohibitive if you're on a budget. If you do own a pet, you will end up in the vet's office -- but my advice is to use an emergency vet clinic only as an absolute last resort.
