When the new…read moreterminal was built almost 20 years ago BFL had 25-30 flights a day & Airport Bus of Bakersfield had 6 or 8 trips to LAX. BFL has been at 8-12 flights a day since the America West-American Airlines merger. About half the flights are big jets and half smaller regional jets. Things to watch - 4 of the flights depart with 75 minutes 05:15 to 6:30 , so things bunch up. If checking bags, 75 minutes before flight time, carry on only 50 minutes. As few flights are spread out , the rest of the day it is not uncommon to find no airport personnel at the counter, and no way to summon them. When it's close to flight time, the gate agents go inside the building. The only sure way is to come to the counter 30 to 90 minutes before a flight departure. (Really BFL- use should have some type of call system so airport or airline personnel know someone needs attention. ) For drop off one gets 15 minutes free parking! Short and long term parking rates are much better than LAX . I've had good luck with car rental, as long as you reserved. Walks ins are hit or miss. Small planes get delayed more than large ones and last 2-3 years my on time experience is good. Prices to my destinations are closer to LAX than ever. Certainly markets and destinations work well, others do not. With less frequency than LAX , if there is a tight connection I will opt to book through LAX for more flexibility. Food and bev services are minimal.

That's what I think you want to hear when you want a review, but I want to tell you another special thing about why I love Amtrak. The sound of the train is something I have loved and that has comforted me from the first time I ever heard it when I was a child, until I bought my first house and discovered that there was a train track right on the other side of a fence that was 8 feet from my house. I learned later that the realtors were supposed to tell you that, but I was young and dumb. I had no idea of that. I was a newlywed and that happened the first night we slept there. It rattled the ground and knocked pictures and clocks off of the walls and terrified my husband and I, thinking it was an earthquake, until we heard the horn. Then we looked at each other and laughed and responded that same way as long as we lived in that house. I missed it for the longest time until many many years later I moved into a senior mobile home park that was nearby a train track, and I was thrilled to hear a train the first night I spent there. I was there five years and smiled every time I heard that that and felt my walls rattle. Between those two experiences, I had a Red Hat Society group for 12 years and we used to take the Amtrak train from Bakersfield to Hanford and spend the day there at different events they put on in the Civic Park, and then Fred the antique fire truck would pick us up and drop us back off at the train station and we would have fun riding home sharing the rolling adventures we had had that day. But the trips there and back themselves were also very fun because there were a few very sweet conductors who played with us and let us take pictures of them with us, and even tried on our hats and let them take pictures of them with us, and that kind of thing. We were a very silly and fun-loving group and we loved that! That's been many many years ago and I wish I could find those pictures...

They went over the manual, pedal controls, hand controls, did a thorough examination of the plane, covered the pre-flight checklist, and checked all the instruments. My husband got to participate in all of it! Once they got in the air it was an incredible and exhilarating experience for him! Not only is my husband going to have Adam start working with him to get his pilot license, but he wants our son to take lessons too. The bus was on time, picking up at 5:00am and it was decently clean on the inside. There was some accumulated debris ( food, paper, etc) on the floor of the bus, but not overwhelming. The seats were cloth and in good shape. They reclined enough to be comfortable. The bus came from San Francisco to Bakersfield then Vegas. The Bakersfield pick up location was at 22nd and Eye Street at the downtown bus station, lane L. There's a sign where they pick up. This service to Vegas is a great deal and recommended.

Just picked up my daughter from the airport after a school trip to France. Her suitcase was thrown…read morearound so badly that it has a good size dent, all the protective film covering the design is ripped up all around and hanging off, and the zipper was broken and the suitcase is half open. Not sure if anything is missing until we get home and check. I was told by staff that none of this damage is covered. Only if the suitcase cracked or had a hole. You can clearly see this suitcase was thrown around more than is normal. I was told that's just the cost of travel and that I should take a hairdryer and try to take the dent out myself and repair the zipper because as long as it's usable it's not covered and zippers are not covered either. This was an almost new good quality set and it would not look like that unless it was mishandled. ​​​Staff was completely non chalant about it, no apology, pretty much borderline mocking me for even thinking they should be responsible and seemed inconvenienced by filing a claim for me saying it's just a waste of time because it will be denied. They did say if we find anything missing when we get home we could call the claim number but did not say if it would be covered. I did not want to open the bag completely there because the zipper was broken and barely holding in the stuff and it would be difficult to get it to the car if we couldn't get it zippered back up. Aweful treatment of luggage, poor customer service, very uncaring and not supportive at all. Will not fly with them again. ​
