I've never been denied medical coverage before now. After waking up one morning with my knee…read morethrobbing in pain and pitting with edema, tender to the touch and nearly intolerable when bearing weight. I decide to go to a walk-in clinic, for an x-Ray. With a negative result and no diagnosis, I was referred to Delaware Orthopedists and Sports Medicine, located nearby and was told that they too are a convenient walk in clinic, specific for orthopedic injuries. Sounded perfect. The doctor gave me a referral slip and even a photo copy explaining the daily hours that Delaware Orthopedists and Sports Medicine was open, specifically for walk-ins (no appointment necessary.) Being after hours, I decided to bear the pain and go the next day. When I got there, the waiting room was empty, so I figure "Great, no wait" but instead I was greeted by the office manager, who took her frustration out on me, explaining very little but making it clear that since I chose to go to the general walk-in clinic first, that my "emergent condition" has been addressed and therefore "no longer qualified" to be seen as a walk in, in their office and that I would have to make an appointment. With an attitude, she then informs me that the photo copy I was given was no longer correct and that there wasn't even a doctor there who could see me anyway and that I should not have been given the paper in the first place. The manager phoned a doctor who then advised me to now go to the ER instead. Due to out of state insurance and financial reasons, this was not an option so, I waited another day and called their office back to request an appointment, with any of their Orthopedists. Two messages and hours later, I received a call back informing me that I will not be able to make an appointment with any of the Orthopedists, in their office. When I asked why that was, I got the same denial but no explanation. I tried explaining the story again regarding the inability of the first doctor to diagnose me and the referral to them, me being told I would have to make an appointment and the reasoning why I decided to try and make that appointment instead of going to the ER. After all that, I was told regardless, that I will not be seen by anyone in their office. Completely dumbfounded, I couldn't let this not be known and I wouldn't recommend anyone going here. What is the point of a walk-in Orthopedic clinic if they falsely advertise their hours and their mission to "provide immediate care for the treatment of new non-emergent orthopedic injuries" if they just deny new patients, who walk-in, with a new non-emergent orthopedic injury? Emergent or not, find anywhere else to be treated. They are bound to treat you better than this. Heck, anywhere else may actually treat you.

I have been going to Edelman Spine for about 5 years and I can tell you that I would not be living…read moreand working like I do without them. I have both spine injuries and degenerative disease that cause extreme pain and issues walking some days. I tried other PT locations and did not get relief, but within weeks of seeing George Edelman and getting dry needling, I had immense relief and felt like I could skip out of the door! I have had several other fantastic PTs there as well like Julie, Jen, Chris and Greg. Everyone there is super nice and they remember your preferences/needs like the exact under legs cushion and table angling when you're getting heat and stem.

This was my second knee replacement, I went to see George in July for an evaluation. He also suggested riding stationary bike, swimming laps and exercises I could do in the pool. By the time my surgery came I was in good shape, I had more mobility and could get around easier without a lot of pain. I did not have to manage pain with oxi prescription only Tylenol. I was working on the stationary bike much earlier, within first week. I was bending at 118 after one week and by two weeks I bent 128, I was walking with cane in two weeks. So I would recommend going to see George 3-6 months to get an evaluation before your upcoming surgery. So they can help you get in shape and prepared it makes such a big difference in your recovery. All the staff is very friendly and knowledgeable makes you feel right at home! I would highly recommend them for your PT needs.
