I have had some experience working out on my own, but not really in a group gym environment. So it was really cool to work out here, because they've developed a great sense of comradery and community. The team spirit atmosphere really helps when you're going through intense workouts! I have been coming to this CrossFit/ bootcamp gym since March of 2018. I am 42 years old, married with two kids and a very busy schedule. Unfortunately things fall apart when you don't have time. In my younger years, I was extremely athletic and played collegiate water polo and served in the Marine Corps. Before having kids (11 years ago) I still would manage to take care of myself by trying to eat right and going to LA Fitness about 3 times a week and doing weight lifting and some light cardio. As I have gotten older and "The schedule" has been populated with my kids sporting events, school functions, birthday parties you name it it's been hard to make time for myself. My body turned into an official dad bod and I noticed my energy level was lacking. I also noticed that my blood pressure was elevated and the writing is on the wall at my age that things are only going to get worse unless I make some changes. I did not want to join CrossFit but my wife made me. I've heard nothing but horror stories about people injuring themselves and how competitive it is and how coaches put pressures on their athletes and it ends up being just a short-term commitment. So kicking and screaming my wife and I signed up after a week of doing CrossFit and some of their boot camp classes. since that time I have averaged at least 4 days a week and sometimes I do 6 days a week. The great part of CrossFit is that you don't mess around. It's not like you're sitting in the gym waiting for a piece of equipment to open up while playing on your phone and not being focused. Misery loves company and that's how CrossFit works. By working in small groups in a team setting everyone has a limited amount of time to complete the daily exercise. After an hour and for me on average 400 to 600 calories burned I feel so great and alive. No other workout routine can give you so much in so little time. I think the best part of CrossFit is the family environment. Most people here are not teenyboppers or people that are looking to date other people, they are folks that are established and are trying their best to achieve personal goals and there is definitely a sense of community when we're all working out together. What sets this CrossFit gym apart from others I believe from what I hear from my other friends at other gyms is our coaches are absolutely amazing. No two are alike and they all have great strengths individually. Collectively they are all professionals and masters of their craft and they all care about you, your goals, and your health. I love the team that they assembled I think I will be coming here a long time because I have so much fun doing hard work and the results I have seen are absolutely amazing. Pound-for-pound I am probably the strongest I have ever been in my life and that's pretty crazy because I was pretty fit in the Marine Corps. You can't go wrong at this gym but I will say things are not easy. You have to put in the work. You have to be focused. You have to work on things that coaches to tell you to do. I had worked out at AU for a few years. After new management took over my trainer that had been with moved. At first I enjoyed being with another trainer but she left also. New trainers were brought in that were horrible to the point that I researched their experience and found that the owner knowingly has some sketchy people working for them! This is not just your average box gym or CrossFit place!! If you are looking for a place that cares about you, treats you like family and teaches you, then this is the place. No judgment and a lot of care in making you are doing the movements correctly. Me being a first timer to this box stuff was intimidating to say the least but they make you feel comfortable and they show you how to modify if you can't do it. I have now been going here over a year and I wouldn't go anywhere else. I even drive 20 miles each way just to come here that's how much I enjoy it. I take the Bootcamp class and I also do Spartan training for my OCR events. They even will coach you to compete. It's just an amazing place that makes you feel at home. I started working out in the place with the mentality that I wasn't going to last more than a month or that I was going to pay my membership and not show up just like most of us in any other fitness center, well, after 2 years I feel in the best shape of my life and I look forward to show up to the box everyday. The coaching staff is very knowledgeable and what I like about it is that they are always watching for movement correction and form. If you want to push your mind and your body to it's limits, then KO CrossFit is where it's at. KO CrossFit creates new workouts on a daily basis, so you never get tired of the same ol' routine. The daily workouts are not movements just pulled out of a hat, but instead are systematic movements that build your strength, stamina, power, flexibility, and above all, mental tenacity. The coaches take everyones athletic level into consideration and guide all members to perfect form, and thus better performance. The workouts are not easy, but they are attainable. Camaraderie between fellow athletes, and coaches, as they cheer people on to finish the workout is not something you will find at a normal gym. The wife and I sat down and prioritized what we wanted in life, health and well being ranked higher than cable and labels, so we both joined and have lost no sleep over our decision. I've been doing Crossfit just a little over a year now. I recently joined Athletics United and in the couple of months I've been training here I'm stronger, faster and fitter. I love coming to the gym. I'm here throughout the week religiously I do the small group training with Prince and it's great. He modifies every single workout for you and makes sure you are doing it correctly so you don't hurt yourself. I started at KO a few months ago and I was hooked by my first class. After one week my husband also joined and we have enjoyed having the common bond of enjoying our WODs together. KO crossfit is one those places you can call home. The environment is very friendly and everyone on the gym is always willing to help you out to the best of their abilities. They have expanded and KO continues to grow which is a plus. The KO staff tend to truly care about each and every person who walks through the door. Only been to one other crossfit gym and while the experience there wasnt a bad one KO just feels like a better fit. The coach at the other gym spent about 30min trying to teach me to kip i couldn't do it and thought i wouldn't be able to. My husband and I joined KO CrossFit last month and just finished 5 out of 6 of the Foundations classes, where you learn all the basics of CrossFit. Jennifer is our "coach" and she is REALLY awesome. I can tell she really has a natural talent for teaching. I never feel rushed to figure out how to do a movement she's teaching us. She makes sure we understand it and that we're doing it correctly, and then we move on to get a really great workout in. She's also great at making sure the intensity is challenging enough for all fitness levels. I have had A LOT of trainers in the past, and I am really, really impressed with her. Everyone at KO - the coaches and those taking the classes - are so encouraging and positive. I really get the impression that they know what they are talking about. Though I've dabbled in Crossfit before, I came into KO wanting more specific weightlifting training. Larry Knapp, the weightlifting coach there, was always helpful and friendly. He is USA Weightlifting certified and is a great coach as well as an all around good dude. All the other coaches are also helpful and gave me improvement tips every now and again despite me being an open gymmer.
