3.5 stars. I came here for pre-surgery PT after an ACL tear a few years ago and didn't like it enough to use them for my post-surgery PT. My PT seemed good at first and after awhile he just phoned it in. They alternate between many patients and left me alone for periods of time. I felt like most of the time the PT just wanted to leave me in the Normatec boots and move on. Because the size was way too large for me it was actually quite uncomfortable. I've unfortunately had to go to PT's six different times for various reasons and this experience was definitely the least personal attention. Overall it was ok but I wouldn't go back. read more

I've been rehabbing and strengthening my rotator cuff at APT in West LA and have had a really great experience overall. When I first came in, I'll admit I had kind of a dejected attitude (not proud of that). I've dealt with a lot of injuries and setbacks, and the other PT clinics I tried before (one for my shoulder and another for my back) didn't quite help me maintain long-term stability. That said, APT has easily been the best PT experience I've personally had. The entire staff is empathetic, knowledgeable, and great at finding smart workarounds and adjustments so I can keep lifting--just in a safer, smarter way. Special shoutout to Brett and Jonathan - they've been great to work with. I really appreciate their patience, attention to detail, and the genuine care they put into every session. If you're looking for a new PT clinic, definitely consider this one if you're on the west side. read more

I am fortunate that I go to Athletic Physical Therapy. They are uniformly excellent and my lead is Dr. Alexa Tango, PT, DPT. She is dialed in and I am better for it. I came to Athletic Physical Therapy at the beginning of the 2025. Suffering from a litany of injuries, that were negatively impacting my quality of life. Back pain that made it nearly impossible to sleep through the night. Ankle pain that made stepping off of a curb an arduous task. But all of that changed once I began training with Brett. Brett's expansive knowledge and nuanced guidance got me back to an athletic capacity and output that I haven't had in years. Good at pushing their own workout, NOT good at evaluating your own workout for form & safety based on medical conditions. NOT good at educational instruction for specific medical issues. MIGHT NOT be 1 on 1 dedicated sessions (You may share the hr w another patient) I'd had 2 phone calls to front desk, to explain what I was looking for & they said that it can be done... but not true. Post cancer- I have weaker bones & early osteoporosis. I wanted 1) an evaluation of my own indoor cycling workout to correct my form for osteoporosis safety & 2) to LEARN strength/flexibility/endurance to help strengthen spine & pelvic bones... while not overworking quads. Had 4 sessions in WLA... 1 consult went well, and got a top level person. But sessions 2-4 were their muscle workouts only. Multiple times they said I could get on their spin bike & they would evaluate as I asked. But they would not let me near a spin bike. NON personal sessions. The 2-4th sessions were started by 1 person who was working on 2 separate appts at same time.. ie... get me started on leg band exercises, then he goes to the other person & bounces back & forth. So you are NOT paying for dedicated attention. The 4th session (which was at least 2 more than I had ever planned), was a deal breaker. The guy working on 2 of us, then handed me off to an even more junior woman for the 2nd half hour. I had never spoken to her, & she had zero clue of my special reason for being there= EDUCATION. She might not have even know what osteoporosis is (being very young, & not sure what degrees she held.) The biggest reason for a poor review: this young woman expected me (with early osteoporosis) to lay on a wood Pilates board... and do something for my legs while grinding my backbone into the piece of wood. No way... I was looking to IMPROVE on my current workout form... NOT to get fractures in my spine. Besides potential permanent damage to body, I didn't learn what I wanted. My quads got worked the most, the part I didnt want. read more

Athletic Physical therapy is hands down THE BEST physical therapy in LA! I'm so glad I found them. I first came to them with an injury from a mudrun and they rehabilitated me completely. Kevin and Matt are both phenomenal; respectful, patient, kind, personable, professional, and knowledgeable. They listen, ask questions, and formulate a unique plan for each patient. I always felt respected and that they had my best interests/health in mind. I came back for another injury that turned out to be more of a long term/chronic issue I'll have to manage for the rest of my life. This one took longer to see progress, but that's just because it took time for my body to respond to the therapy and I needed some additional medical treatments. Athletic PT worked in tandem with my doctor to create the best treatment plan for me to reduce my pain and get me back to my normal activities. Kevin always has new exercises for me to try and knows I always love a challenge and to push myself when I can. It keeps me engaged and never bored with my treatment protocols. If I mention a muscle or movement that's sore, painful, or twingy, he addresses it expertly and holistically and incorporates new exercises or modifications to address it. I also love that their office is inside a gym, so the PT can incorporate any of the machines or equipment there (including a couple of reformers!) I also really appreciated the camaraderie that developed there with all the staff. The first time I was able to do an exercise without pain (after weeks of limitations) we all cheered! I've been to many physical therapy places in Los Angeles, but Kevin at Athletic Physical Therapy truly stands out. He is very knowledgeable and has done a great job helping me with my chronic pain. With his targeted exercises, my back, lower back, and knee pain have improved significantly, and my pain level has gone down day by day. The results have been fantastic. This place is awesome!!  I am so so grateful I found Athletic Physical Therapy, and cannot recommend the team here enough. It is a small clinc located inside of Life Gym in Brentwood.  I had a complex hamstring issue that an ortho from Cedars, PTs recommended by Cedars, multiple LMTs, and another PT couldn't resolve. I wasted a lot of money, time, and emotional energy before I came to Athletic PT.  I saw Dr. Kevin and he identified the issue at our first session and knew exactly what to do.  Dr. Kevin and Leslie are highly knowledgeable, supportive, and pushed me every week and cared about my recovery.  Dr. Kevin is highly intelligent, inquisitive, an excellent communicator, and critical thinker. You will not do the exact same exercises every week like other places.  All the exercises are different and designed to target your weaknesses.  I am feeling so much better and so glad not to be in agonizing pain every day. I booked every session specifically with the lead therapist, Brett Nelson.  The reason for this was that we wanted a more experienced therapist overseeing the therapy to insure that our son was not re-injured during sessions because of the nature and sensitivity of his injury.  I observed during our session that Brett actually spent less than 5 minutes on the floor with him over the entire course of the session. I later learned that this was common during sessions that are booked with Brett.  When I asked about it, I was told that Brett only introduces a new exercise and then passes the client off to an assistant. I noticed that there were several times that the assigned assistant was not paying attention and where our son's form was dangerously poor without any correction, and many times during a strenuous exercise.  When I asked Brett about this, there was no meaningful or rational explanation. He was clearly not paying attention, and had absolutely no regard for what was happening.  We will not return to this facility and I cannot recommend this therapist or the assistant working under him. They were just barely paying attention and seemed like they could care less.  We tried a different therapist at a different facility who paid close attention to each exercise and crafted a thoughtful program with proper rehabilitation in mind. Athletic PT was a far cry from that kind of client care. read more

Kevin and his staff have taken wonderful care of me both times I needed their help. Kevin listened very carefully to my concerns to determine what kinds of rehab I needed. Most recently he gave me a variety of exercises to strengthen my back and hip and improve my balance. Even when the office was busy, he kept an eye on what I was doing the entire visit. He seemed to have eyes in the back of his head!! He also remembered from one visit to the next when I had an issue not related to the immediate concern. i've been going to athletic PT for a year now and love the entire staff there. I've been working with Kevin as my PT and he has helped me through multiple knee injuries/pain from running which has allowed me to train for and run the Chicago, NYC, and Los Angeles marathons successfully. Kevin's sessions and workouts have been really effective for me and I continue to go consistently for preventative purposes even when i'm not dealing with a specific pain or recovering from an injury. i have referred multiple friends here and they've all had positive experiences too. would highly recommend this place and Kevin for physical therapy needs! read more

***Watch out for Physical Therapy billing practices.*** We endured a single appointment here, and the aftermath of their vendor's intentional over-billing caused hours of unnecessary follow-up and heartache. Note, the actual training session was fine. The trainer was competent and kind, and the facility was more than adequate. However, their front desk then informed me we'd be billed more than our co-pay, which was incorrect. They had collected my credit card up front, which should have a been a red flag, but because they doubled as a gym - I just didn't give it a second thought, thinking they'd treat that as a backup source in case. Not the case. They charged me $125 instead of a $20 copay. Their front desk quickly punted to their billing department, which I would find out later is a 3rd party vendor named "J&J Medical Billing." Then the chaos really ensued. I called J&J, their fairly rude Accountant told me they got it right, but they'd be willing to talk live with my insurance company. I followed up promptly, getting a call with Blue Shield and this same Accountant. The Blue Shield rep showed the Accountant where they had clearly made a mistake, and seemingly did so intentionally. The Accountant then began yelling at the Blue Shield rep. I called J&J a 2nd time, speaking to their supervisor, who apologized for the unprofessionalism of the call - but defended the policy choice by stating that he told his employees to bill this way, b/c they could never be sure what the insurance company will pay. i.e. He's intentionally over-billing. It took a handful of more calls and a few months to collect my $105 amount that was overpaid. I'm detailing the painful process so you don't have to endure it. Athletic management was also apologetic, but since they were quick to grab my credit card in the first appointment, I wouldn't be surprised if this is a far more sinister strategy that's ongoing. read more

After breaking my humerus, I was in despair about the future. I had several physiotherapy places to choose from as suggested by my doctor, and I chose this one. I hit the jackpot. I got Kevin, Leslie and Ryley. Each one has tremendous accreditation and experience, along with the greatest customer service. Everyone who works here is exceptional. It's a very small place inside a gym. It's run with precision. Such attention to each person. Different and interesting exercises - some manual and some with machines - all mixed up and using different muscles. Each session maximized my recovery. I am at 98%. My range of motion - phenomenal. I don't feel I ever had an injury. With the rapid physical recovery I experienced, my mental state soared. I can't thank this group of wonderful people enough. At the beginning, I had to use Lyft to get there even though they provide parking. I can now drive. And, each step I took at the beginning was with trepidation because I was afraid of falling or tripping. As time went on, I feel like I can do hurdles. Such an unfortunate and terrifying experience turns into a triumph with this wonderful physiotherapy place attached to a great gym. read more

I spent 9 months here during ACL recovery...so I have all of the dirt! Which there is none, because Kevin and Leslie are some of my favorite humans. I have no doubt I would not have recovered as well as I did if it weren't for them. Kevin is thoughtful and meticulous. He is incredibly observant when it comes to your form and will make sure you are performing exercises as precisely as possible. He is also great at providing modifications when needed. He is very adaptable and flexible. For instance, I practice jiu jitsu so I had a lot of jiu jitsu specific questions which he would take the time to investigate and answer. He even would integrate more specific exercises in order to achieve my athletic goals with jiu jitsu. Leslie is a truly caring person and is very knowledgeable as well. She is kind and really cheered me up on days when I wasn't feeling so great or motivated. She will make sure you remain encouraged and make you laugh when needed. She is also great at helping with form and keeping you on track! read more

After my rotator cuff surgery I did physical therapy here and was happy with the results. I worked primarily with Steve and Gloria and they are both knowledgable, friendly, patient and caring. I began PT a week after surgery. They started me off slowly and would gradually build up the movements, weights and resistance-- nothing was ever rushed or pushed harder than it needed to be, which I appreciated. Setting up appointments was always easy and I had no issues with billing, they made sure all of that went as smoothly as possible. read more

It is beyond me how anybody could do anything but give this place five stars. They are educated, they know what they're talking about and they are very hands-on. I was hit by a car several years ago and I've had three surgeries on my shoulder and I have to say that I have been through physical therapy before. My physical therapist here, Kevin, So far has been exceptional. Instead of dreading coming to physical therapy I actually look forward to it. His partner in crime, Leslie, is also really good. The staff are extremely nice but I can't say I was happy with my experience here. I came here for physical therapy after I broke my leg in a moped accident in 2015. Initially it really helped my healing process but I eventually felt like I hit a plateau. I felt like my trainer was not fully tracking my progress and I'd go in expecting to progress further and end up being told to do the same things. They'd also leave me alone for long stretches of time on a workout machine not really knowing what to do. I needed guidance and didn't get much. I feel like my trainer had far too many patients going back and forth and wasn't focused on any of us enough. He'd leave me with staff that were barely finished training, and not a certified pt. I would have preferred professional help as promoted on their website, not trainees with no experience. I'm young and wanted to regain my strength but I felt like I wasn't given enough help. This facility is also a regular gym and it was extremely saddening and embarrassing to be around all these healthy active people when I'm trying to heal from a serious injury. I have a limited time for my appointments and we'd have to wait for gym goers to finish on machines we'd need to use. That is a waste of my time! I was lucky enough to have this covered by insurance but 2 appointments a week at $25 copays each adds up and I had already been financially drained from the injury and surgery I had to undergo. The staff would constantly ask about the accident and whether I was going to ride a moped again, which was still a really sore subject I didn't need to dredge up twice a week. I was even reprimanded for riding. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but staff should keep that to themselves, really. I was already badly hurt physically and emotionally. I didn't need the lack of consideration. As a gym, this place seems fine. As physical therapy, it sucked. It is not worth the price. They do not pay attention to patients' individual needs. And I feel like they cater more to the Medicare crowd than someone who needs rehab from a traumatic accident. I would not recommend this place for physical therapy. They get 2 stars for being friendly, sort of. read more

I worked with Kevin for about 4 months because of a ruptured disc in my neck. The whole team was always so friendly and helpful. Each appointment was broken up into treating my neck with traction, pressure points, stretching etc. and then working on exercises to help strengthen the muscles around my injury. I felt like I learned so much about my injury and how to fix it from them. They're a great price, super flexible with scheduling and very helpful. Steve Clark is awesome!, Smart, great at getting to the heart of the issue and pushing as hard as I can go and if I say it's too much we slow down a bit. I've been going there for 7 months for my left ankle and started there because I developed Plantar Fascitis, which is a real bear of a condition. Had my left ankle operated on two weeks ago and will be back at it later this week. He even identified the likely culprit, overcompensation​​ of one foot/ankle for what's​ been going on with​ the other. My left ankle has been a problem for over 30 years. Sydnee, who works for him is very nice and attentive too. She's not a therapist, rather an assistant and works with me when I'm off table doing exercises, and she does the scheduling. They're within a small gym and they validate for your parking in the underneath garage--on the corner of Wilshire and Centinela. read more

Not only does this physical therapy clinic provide outstanding results to their clients, but also holds a strong capacity to love and nurture each person they work in contact with. I have seen all staff members shows acts of kindness that go above and beyond the parameters of their job description. Each member of the team is prompt and poignant throughout their work, starting from the warm greeting upon entering, all the way to the specialaized therapy itself. It is evident that each therapist cares about the work they execute, and their knowledge of the human body is second to none.
