We took my older family mini van to Athens Transmission because it was leaking Transmission fluid. They were able to take a look at it right away. Unfortunately they discovered that the front seal was damaged. He advised me that the rebuild of the transmission would be about $4000 , but based on age and mileage more than 250k he didn't recommend that. I really respected his honesty and advice. He could have tried to convince me to spend the money to fix it,but he didn't. That kind of honesty is rare in the auto repair business in my experience. He did give me some advice on how to keep the van running a bit longer and I appreciated that. I 100% would recommend this shop if you have transmission issues. read more

Everyone has taken one of those trips, just passing through, late in the evening and "bam" the car breaks down. It can almost ruin a great trip. We also have dinner plans 6 hours away that next day and if we can't get this fixed quickly the next day we are not going to make it. We had this exact scenario happen along US50. The car suddenly starts slowing down on its own, we limped off the highway onto a (what seemed) remote road and pulled into a parking lot. Instantly I'm checking Yelp for towing services and repair facilities. I found that we were just a short distance from Athens Transmission. They were closed, but I made sure my vehicle was there waiting for them first thing in the morning. Patrick contacted me first thing, just before they opened. He said they should be able to take a look at it today. He asked if I was just passing through, which I was. I had a nice lady that was willing to drive us to and from our BNB and I didn't want to put her out. About 11am that morning Patrick called to let me know it was all finished and ready to pick up. I was stunned! I was already looking for car rentals or a Uhaul to drive home. He explained it was just a radiator hose and they had one in stock and were able to get me on the road right away. We are so grateful! I know they were busy, but they were able to squeeze us in and get us back on the road. What a team! We even made our dinner arrangements :) When I received the follow up a couple days later to check that all was well, I was even more impressed. Our daughter is student at OU. Her transmission went into limp mode. We dropped her car off at Athens Transmission on a Sunday without even being able to talk to them because they were closed. They worked us in to their schedule and were able to install a used tranny at a reasonable cost within about two weeks. Car is running good again. If you're looking for a part or service that Athens Transmissions can provide, you needn't look any further. They seem to actually care about their customers, honor agreements, and make things right; even at their own expense. I had quite an expensive job done 11 months into a 12 month warranty and took a trip 1200 miles away. The part that Athens Transmission installed, by luck would have it, cannot be found in the entire part of the country I went to. Nowhere. I finally called Athens Transmission to see if they could help me out with the situation. In conjunction with a shop 1200 miles away, Athens Transmission not only honored the warranty, but found the part in the NE United States, shipped it at THEIR expense, and the company that the part was purchased from even covered half the labor. None of this could've been done without Athens Transmission's help. So if you're shopping around, have found a slightly cheaper garage with less experienced and caring personnel and are thinking to yourself "a part this expensive couldn't possibly go bad.." change that mode of thinking. Spend the few extra bucks (if you even have to, Athens Transmission is very reasonable) and give yourself peace of mind that even if you're stranded half-way across the United States, Athens Transmission will help you. read more

I needed a place to look at my daughter's transmission which seemed to go out when she was visiting friends at OU. She had already taken it to 2 other places that said it was a bad tranny so they recommended this place since they didn't service transmissions. Well long story short Athens transmission checked it out and it was a loose speedometer wire and they fixed it for nothing. It's rare to find an honest, qualified mechanic! RATING SHOULD BE NO STARS -THESE GUYS ARE CROOKS Took my car here to be fixed after 2 WEEKS of waiting I was told there was a wire replaced to my speed sensor ! One week later same problem occured Another mechanic discovered their was a short in my wiring harness !! After crawling under my car I saw their were no new wires installed by Athens Transmission !! These guys looked at a scared and struggling college girl and seriously helped me out. My car was having some serious issues that were quite frankly scary. The man on the phone seemed very confident in finding the issue! Then, as I am waiting for the taxi, he tells me "Call and cancel the taxi. I'll take you home." I said, "Are you sure??" He said "Yeah it'll save you some money." I mean, it's one thing to care for the client's vehicle but it's another thing to actually care about the client! These guys do a great job and you can tell they really care and love what they do. I wouldn't recommend another place in Ohio. read more
