They weren't just bartenders to me, they were friends. Even if I were just passing by, Salvatore and Sandra made it a point to say hi. It made me feel comfortable and at home in a city I had lived in for only mere days (I am American). Oh yeah, their drinks at great. They have a terrific selection of cocktails that they make with care and expertise. They take pride in their craft while maintaining an atmosphere of friendliness. It truly is a great place to grab some drinks and make some friends. I would recommend it to anyone, and I hope to be back in Valencia soon to be back there. Mi pub favorito en España. Was I wrong! I guess that isn't the Valencian way. Barcode was casual, warm and seemed very happy that I stepped in to have a cocktail or two. Mind you, I am far from what most folks would call trendy, although I am a very "hip" older gentleman if I do say so myself. However, the bartender engaged me with conversation, mixed me great cocktails, and made me feel very welcome. Barcode is in a rather posh area of town, but this cocktail bar has no airs. Bravo!

Arriving without a reservation on a Saturday, we were seated without a wait; service was welcoming, quick, and very friendly. Tip: The starter we chose (with advice from our server) was the steamed mussels. As our server had said, we found that a single portion was more than enough for two to share. We also enjoyed several cocktails with our meal that day; my favorite by far was the Pumpkin amuse - delicious! For our main, we shared the fillet of ray (tronco rodaballo). This dish was beautiful to look at, with a taste profile that bordered on distilled awesomeness :-) Bottom line: Fabulous views, excellent service, and wonderful food made our experience here one that I look forward to repeating. While the prices for bread, wine, and coffee were a bit on the high side, the overall cost of our meal was more than reasonable given the quality of the food and the service.
