It was actually alright since we still wanted to find some gifts to bring home to friends and family. After finding some goodies at Maxime's I meandered by Delfonics window. The weirdest thing happened as I pivoted on my heel and fell right inside the store. Must have been a weird gravitational well and that gravitational well is "Andie is a sucker for stationery shops". They had SO many goodies - great journals, stationery supplies, cool Japanese pens, and notepads. Basically it was a dream within a dream. My daughter is also afflicted with stationery store fever. Let's just safely say that we both found memorable items to take home and use daily which reminds of us the magical place that is Delfonics.

Just walk into any toy department and it feel like all your senses are under attack. From the garish colors and cheap materials to the god-awful sounds that these things emit, you wonder what evil spirit possessed the people who designed them. That's why places like Si Tu Veux should be classified as national living treasures because the survival of the human race depends on them! This oasis of kid calm is aptly located in the chic Passage Vivienne next to other classy shops. The selection here is pitch perfect. Every item seems to have been selected with careful thought and consideration by the owner, a lovely woman who will, if you ask, tell you what kind of toy would be most appropriate for your child given his or her age. With my little one in tow, she selected a few toys for him to try out and we all agreed on this amazing DNA-strand-like construct made out of colored wood and bouncy string that my baby immediately gobbled up and slathered his approval onto. Not only is it super to look at, it's also one of his favorite toys. And I've never seen it anywhere else so the owner must have chosen it from some obscure manufacturer (or at least that's what I told myself to justify its slightly elevated price).

I bought a mug that at the time was a bit spendy, and have wished many times since that I had purchased more of her things. This shop is tucked away in the Marais but is easily accessible on foot from Rue Rivoli (head north on Temple). If you love cats, you'll likely enjoy her whimsical art but there is plenty for those who have a life that doesn't revolve around a feline. The shop is closed Sunday and Tuesday.

A large variety of yarn all made from natural fibers in several solid and variegated colors. Nothing too bulky, I would say most are sport or DL weight. I picked up three hanks of a locally sourced and dyed cashmere mohair blend and I'm excited to work with it although I'm not sure what I'm going to make yet! Shop owners speak English and are very helpful. Prices vary, it is definitely possible to get an affordable cake but I did splurge a bit as I'd rather have too much for my project than not enough. Add to that a propped open door, an inviting owner, adorable, delicate, hand-made objects on display and for sale and I'm in heaven! This small ceramics workshop/boutique is owned by Madame Garrigues, a lovely woman who designs and makes all of the ceramics by hand by herself. She's obviously very skilled technically but has a fabulous, modern eye for color and shapes that infuse humor and light into her work. Her simple but very spirited collection includes pastel colored spoons, lattice-worked plates, tiny cork-stopper flasks, and even super thin light fixtures. The prices are very reasonable: I picked up a little flask that I plan on using as a tiny vase for 20E that is just too cute to be true. She also does weekend workshops for anyone who wants to learn how to make their own ceramics. Typically the door is closed while she's working but she said it's ok to knock on the door and she'll let you in to explore and shop.
