I was planning on going to Marche St Pierre across the street but this place called my name. I found everything I was looking for and more.... (brought a bunch of fabric for me too :) After my rather large purchase I did go to Marche St Pierre and found some of the same fabric for WAY MORE! Yes the place is a bit of a mess, and yes they only sell fabric by the 3 meters. But the price is right. 10 Euros for 3 meters that's a bargain! So a week later I'm shopping at Camaieu (a franchised clothing store) and what do I find but a shirt made of the same fabric I bought at "Les Coupons de Saint Pierre".. Fantastic!

You can't do much with under a yard, but at 3 meters the possibilities are pretty expansive. Sacrés Coupons has been around forever and have a couple locations in the same area. There's always good deals and interesting materials. It's not a grab bag of discarded/ugly/icky materials, but it does feel like organized chaos inside. I picked up several interesting and great quality coupons here for a great price. My mom used to drag me here in the 90s and I'm pretty sure I still have some of that vintage yardage in storage! Also, for whatever reason, it feels like silk (soie) and wool (laine) is so much cheaper here than stateside. So if that's your jam, check it out on your fabric adventures in Paris. Coupons are much less intimidating for non-French speakers because you don't have to figure out cutting and all that, just grab the piece and go pay.

The entire neighborhood had fabric stores akin to the garment district in Los Angeles. If you sew, plan on spending at least a couple of hours in this part of Montmartre. What a great find!

We came on a wet Tuesday, and only realized how big it is, once we came. The map directions will direct you to the main store, which consists of 3 stories, each with a very big footprint. We didn't really find anything we liked, so ended up leaving disappointed after a while. Once we got outside though, we noticed another door next door, also called Marche Saint Pierre, but this time with Dreyfus in the name. This is even a bigger store, with 6 levels of fabrics, all connected through stairs and elevators. They had similar fabrics as the previous, but ended up finding something that we wanted. Once we got the attention of a consultant, he quickly cut a meter off of the bolt. It ended up costing under 20€, and was easy to pack away. Paying using a credit card was easy, and we were on our way.

J'avais presque oublié ma première mauvaise expérience il y a quelques mois, mais le comportement est resté identique : agressivité, mépris et absence totale de sens du commerce. On a davantage l'impression de déranger que d'être cliente. Les prix sont déjà particulièrement élevés ; avec un accueil chaleureux et professionnel, cela pourrait encore se comprendre.
