From the very first Photo 1 class, Andrew positioned the material in ways I'd never heard or read before. All of the curriculum has been shaped to gradually level up a student's potential. By the 24th class, I was bursting with excitement about what I now knew how to do. I can now go out and talk with long-time professional photographers and contribute to the conversation. I've been encouraging Andrew to start publishing articles and a book. Until then, photography enthusiasts in Austin are super fortunate that ASOP is available for all of us.

Is it it Light? How much distance is involved?" At first everything is very stright forward, learning the mechanics of the computer in your hands. Because, let's face it, it's a computer. Unless you're that one person in class rocking an old school film camera, which is amazing - please be that person and make the rest of us jelly. He gives homework, well thought out and explained. He sends follow up emails after every class explaining the homework assignements again. And he loves for people to print out their photos so we can all discuss our photos and learn form one another. Also, he seems to know every camera so very well. He can figure out opperating systems super fast. I've had my camera for over a year and still get frustrated trying to find somthing. Hence the reson I stick as much stuff on my Favorites tab as possible. Not Andrew though, he can find anything on anyone's camera in under 30 seconds it seems. Trust me, once you see how many cameras he must work with each and every day, this is impressive. I've only taken level one class, but already paid for level two. Before too long I plan on taking all of his classes. He really challenges me to get outside of my comfort zone, understand my equipment better, and really wants me to succeed. If it weren't for Andrew's classes I would be stuck taking only classes at ACC that do not fit into my schedule. I'm so glad Andrew started this School. The classes are small which allows Natalya to give everyone individualized instruction. I've been to four Art+Wine nights and I see SO much improvement since my first painting! As soon as we approached the building, I knew I'd love it. The space is so colorful and vibrant, with amazing murals outside that are the perfect backdrop for pictures. There's a space in front of the building where some vendors set up. As soon as you walk in, your eyes are assaulted with so many options of where to look at. Every wall and corner is full of art waiting to be admired. If you decide to start on the left side, there's a space that's set up more like a gift shop, with visual art, prints, sculptures, handmade art, cards, and so many things other to buy. If you walk to the right side, you realize the building is a lot bigger than you expected. There's so many rooms that seem to be used by individual artists, all showcasing their art. We ran out of time before exploring it all but will definitely come back. There was one room that was all dark with black lights and had bright neon art, it was the coolest thing! I looked up their website and learned that they're the largest artist and creative complex in Texas, housing around 130 multidisciplinary artists, including painters, photographers, filmmakers, tech artists and more. They offer studio spaces available for rent, events, coworking, and lots of programming to invite the community to support the artists. Every city should have a place like this!

I ended up renting a full day's worth of studio time in order to finish a project on their Vandercook SP-20 letterpress. Everything was organized nicely, and I had a great stretch of uninterrupted time to myself while working on the press. And I only had a day's notice before I headed in! Perfect! A lot of times people hold back on getting into printmaking due to the costs associated with locating, purchasing, and relocating a press. Well, why bother with that when you can sign on as a member at Slugfest (around $4 dollars a day) and print till you drop! Slugfest definitely deserves more recognition for their work here in Austin.

I came in to audit an intro class here one evening and it was the most fun I ever had learning how to do something waaay out of my knowledge and comfort arenas. The equipment here is state the art and each station has dual turntables and a mac so you can track your beats and your progress. The instructors are not only pros in the business, but their passion is contagious! They are a non-profit and work with a lot of youth programs, which I think is awesome for community engagement and being another fantastic Eastside staple only adds to the character of this place! By the end of the class, I was not only simon-says baby scratching on both turntables, but felt like I could walk out and confidently nickname myself DJ Madame Magic Touch!
