It brings me great sadness to leave this review as I have been a client of Atchison Animal Clinic for 14 years. I have been a patient in good standing, never defaulting on payment and never missing an appointment. I brought a dog that was abandoned to the clinic on Dec 15. After bloodwork and other expensive tests (allegedly. I'm not certain they were done but if they were, they were incorrectly read and diagnosed) we were told the dog would recover and given expensive medication and a follow-up appointment in two weeks. Long story short, the dog died December 18. The vet who examined the dog was shocked he died, as were we and the vet said there was nothing in the test results that indicated the dog would die. He then offered to charge us for cremation services. How empathetic. I then called and spoke to Dr. Chris Hansen, senior doctor and co owner of the clinic. We asked for our money back because clearly the tests, exam, etc weren't done correctly (if at all) since we were told three times the dog would recover. He informed me the dog was in liver failure and basically said it wasn't written down the dog would recover. Why would I spend a small fortune on a stray dog that was dying, I asked? He denied basically all liability, pretty much called me a liar, refused to refund us, and lost our business. I have filed a complaint with the vet board in Wamego and am disputing the charges with my credit card company because the services we received were not provided. An exam and CBC would have told us he was in liver failure had they been done correctly and we paid a lot of money for that, and we didn't receive those services. I should have stopped using this office when Dr. Kistler left years ago. Not only does Dr. Hansen not care, he's dishonest, unethical, and I believe the conduct we experienced constitutes malpractice. Wamego will decide that, though. read more
