Roy did an excellent job on my engine. I'm very happy. I have an older Honda BF50 50 hp that needed carb and water pump work. Parts were hard to come by but Roy wouldn't give up and got it done. His communication was great. I'm very happy with his work and will be returning in the spring for a service and new timing belt. read more

I was referred by a friend who has been using Roy for over 20 years. I brought my boat in for an annual service plus some other maintenance work. Roy explained and showed photos of everything he was doing and helped me understand certain maintenance needs to me as a new boat owner. He offered the best service and took many phone calls of mine for questions I needed extra clarification on. Roy attended to all my requests/concerns. His fees are worth every penny. He is thorough and honest. Thank you Roy ! read more

Took my boat to get hydraulics steering lines replaced after I accidentally cut them while polishing the gel coat. Roy was awesome providing best customer service, answered all my questions, gave me a break down of all the parts and service - at the end we ended up replacing the entire hydraulic steering unit since there were other part that were damaged and did need it since I kept loosing steering at time out on the lake. I received real time text and email updates plus an estimated time of completion- excellent communication. I dislike when I get hidden costs added, with at the helm they break it down for you and give you the options. Already took my boat out twice with no issues- will be coming back for additional services. read more

Roy helped me get my 2017 Tigé up to speed. I thought his prices were very reasonable and had my best interest in mind. If he was able to fix something without replacing he would do it to save me money. I will be bringing my boat back to him this spring for a few more needed repairs and service matters for the upcoming season! read more

Spent many $$ and wasted time taking my boat to different shops and not one if them could fix the problem. The guys at " At the helm" had the boat for a very short time and fixed the problem. I can't rave enough about the whole experience. These guys do it right and are friendly and explain everything. Don't waste your time with the other supposed boat repair places here in Castaic, they are a waste of time and money. Try these guys and get your boat fixed right. read more

I have a lot of respect for At the Helm Marine. They have consistently been able to keep up with my strict requirements & needs. They are excellent troubleshooters & quality mechanics. Roy , Fred & Victor have gone out their way many times to accommodate me on tight deadlines. The work they perform is better than factory OEM. At the Helm Marine is Santa Clarita's wakeboard/surf boat repair destination. I will continue to use them again & again. read more

Roy & the entire team are awesome & very knowledgeable! We drove over 2 hours to get our brand new USED boat to them for some steering problems. Roy immediately found a broken Helm & a few things going on with our shifter & fixed that plus replaced our steering cable & also installed a battery switch that brought our battery power switch up to code for our power to the boat & stereo system.....we are VERY pleased with their service and professionalism. We recommend them to everyone! We felt like they were honest & even tried to save us money by first fixing our Helm in hopes of it being the obvious problem to our steering problem before installing the steering cable which was needed as well once we test drove it. We are grateful that they were honest, knowledgeable & worth the wait. It does take a little while to get into their shop but it's worth it! They're now going to be our boat mechanics for life! Btw- being a new boat owner, they never made us feel stupid about not knowing too much about boating! Great people! read more

I am so impressed with Roy and his team. I had a fuel pump failure at lake Nacimiento and Roy allowed me to drop my boat off 1 week prior to my appointment. We had havasu plans the following week. The needed part was priority mailed from the East coast installed and with a full service. I received my boat the day we were scheduled to leave. With no test run I just had to believe everything was handled correctly. The boat was launched and the meaning of truth... The boat fired up first try and ran smoothly the whole trip after wakesurfing, wakeboarding and cruising all around lugging full ballast tanks. Absolutely recommend and stoked to have found my new boat mechanic. read more

I can't say enough about Roy and his team! We took our 1999 Four Winns in for a complete service and they did an excellent job! They were knowledgeable and communicated with us every step of the way. I purchased my boat from a dealer in Ventura but they couldn't take care my service and referred me to ATH. Roy and staff are awesome... i brought them my Yamaha sx230 for a 100 hr service after it sat for over a year due to my medical issues. It was ready in just a few days. Upon pick up not only was the service complete but my trailer tires were properly adjusted, interior seats wiped down and the windshield cleaned. We headed right to the lake and it ran just like new. I recommend ATH to any boat owner who wants a service or more. read more

What can I say, I've neglected leaving a review for Roy and Freddy and the crew at At the helm marine after all these years (shame on me). I have an 04 Chaparral 190SSi that I've brought to them from the time I bought it back in 2013. It was basically stock when I bought it and they did all the maintenance on it and they are top notch (Victor is the bomb mechanic). So get this, I called Roy after about 5 years of owning it and told him I wanted to make it a Fish and Ski boat. I sat down with the crew and went through all the details with Freddy, Roy and Victor and I told them to use their ideas and make this boat "fish all day" ready. That's what they did. They put in 2 fish finders (front and back), installed my Ultrex trolling motor (which Victor manufactured for the boat). They also madebme a bomb ass platform in the front with a seat and they used my same compartments with latches and locking doors on them. They totally rewired it all to make it all "one boat network ready" After taking it out a few times and doing a couple of tweaks, it works wonderful and can fish all week at the lake and have no issues so far. I truley trust my $30k boat with this company. Thanks fellas!! read more

I have known Roy since he worked at Castaic boat and marine 2002. He was the only reason I went there. For a while I was looking to find out where he went and today I got a big smile on my face. These guys are great and really know what they are doing. I would highly recommend to anyone who is looking for boat service which is hard to find in a lake-less city of Los Angeles. read more

I have been taking my boats to Roy and Fred here at"at the helm Marine" for over 10 years. Boats break down a lot unfortunately and I have always been able to trust these guys that they will do only what's needed when my boat breaks down. I have had multiple instances where I thought they could have easily gotten more money out of me for one thing or another but they always keep it reasonable and they aren't afraid of custom projects like my complicated stereo system wiring. I will always use them for my boats. The location is also super convenient after the lake I can just drop it off. read more

Roy is amazing. I lost some tiny impeller housing screws while changing my impeller on my Malibu at 7:30 pm Saturday night. I was leaving for the lake early the next morning and was desperate to get replacement ones. I called every boat shop but everyone was closed including Roy. But he said he would drive back to the shop just to get me some. I was so thankful. After meeting him at the shop he didn't even charge me. Just give them to me and told me to have a good day on the water. I was shocked. He is so great. read more

Boating is not a cheap hobby. I know I'm going to spend money if I have someone else work on my boat. He also runs a clean shop. I would definitely recommend him... read more

Took my boat to get serviced and I couldn't be more pleased with the service. Everyone knows boating isn't cheap, but these guys are worth EVERY PENNY. Five stars for Roy and his crew at the helm marine. I brought in my dad's older ski boat. Roy was up front from the beginning with the timeframe for the repairs. He called me when he discovered a couple other things wrong besides what I had brought the boat in for. No unnecessary repairs or charges. Just honest and reliable service. Thanks Roy for the amazing work! I was looking for a repair place for my 1992 Ski Nautique. The last place I had my boat serviced, before I found At the Helm Marine, the guy seemed like he could care less if I was there. From the moment I contacted Roy, he was extremely helpful and made me feel like he really cared. After striking an object in the water this summer and needing a new prop, strut and other things- Roy was the first person I contacted. He helped me through the whole process and even sent me pictures of the inside of the boat while he was working on it. He went over every detail when I picked it up today. I am very appreciative of him and the dedication he showed. I will be a lifetime customer! Thanks Roy. read more

I used to take my boat to Castaic Marine, which was where I bought the boat as well. One of the best parts of Castaic Marine was working with Roy Butera. He is very knowledgable, and as are all of the people working at his new shop. They want to get your boat running perfectly. There was a noise that popped up at the end of last season. They diagnosed and switched out the part. I had them shampoo the carpet in the boat and it looks like new. I have been to a number of the repair shops in the Castaic area, and these guys are the best! Do you and your boat a favor and switch to boat repairs at, At The Helm. read more

Roy and his staff are amazing! Their professionalism and work speak for itself. Definitely recommend these guys!

WOW ! I recently bought a 2008 used Pontoon Boat with a 90 HP Mercury engine that I knew from the start was in dire need of mechanical help. My daughter told me about Helm Marine and we took the boat to Roy....explained that we didn't really know much about the engine other than the fact that the two guys we bought the boat from seemed like real novices and didn't know much about outboards and we left the boat with Roy and asked him to please check everything out.. Roy called us a few days later and explained all that he had done and we picked the boat up a day or so later and the following weekend we went to Castaic Lake for our test run and check out. The boat ran like a new boat and we really put it thru its paces...we stayed out on the lake enjoying ourselves for about four hours.. I've had three Pontoon boats before and have to say that this boat is like brand new now and the work and tune up made our day on the lake as GOOD AS IT GETS !! Thanks Roy...you're the best ! Roy and his staff are the best. The service prices are all given up front and Roy will not do any work without explaining exactly what you need. I had some major steering issues and Roy showed me to the penny what the cost would be for the repair and it was exactly what he said. Roy took the time to explain what was going on with my boat and teach me problem areas to keep an eye on. There was no pressure at all, and I never felt like I was being sold something I did not need. Roy told me the boat would be done in about a week and it was done in 5 days, and that was with ordering a part from back east. I will not take my boat any other place. read more

Took me all summer to get to this review...that's because I was out in my boat all summer. For the first time in years everything on my boat was working!!! That is due to Roy and all the gang who did such a great job at AT THE HELM in Castaic, Ca. Can't recommend this company highly enough. Service & knowledge are excellent and prices are very fair. I could write all day but the previous reviews have said it all. So friggin' great to have a boat mechanic you can trust - and like! read more
