With a reputation as the scariest haunted house in Utah, I would expect A LOT more. We went as a group of 6, one person with a light touch pass. Initially the queue line is not well organized and it was extremely easy for others to cut in front of our group. The line was 3+ hours long and employees were passing out silent disco headphones without disclosing the $10-$15 cost. Vocally encouraging people to take them. (Luckily we noticed and avoided them) After finally getting to the indoor queue line, the scare actors were OKAY. There wasn't much interaction with patrons and more interaction with the chainlink fence separating the line... As most haunted houses do, they waited a bit after the group before us to avoid clogging up the haunted house. However, after about 2 rooms, we ran into the group before us and the group behind us ran into us. Making the "jumpscares" much less scary and individualistic. Now moving as a combined group of about 10-12 people, we were rarely jumpscared. Most jumpscares were lights and animatronic controlled. Extremely disappointed to see scare actors - the few that there were - barely interact with the group in front of us with FULL TOUCH EXPERIENCE passes. No one was separated, I even heard them vocally complain about barely even being touched ! The theme felt off and was mostly full of not so scary props. Disappointed to find that the hospital/asylum theme is not consistent. Some rooms were well done and visually appealing. The chainsaw part was pretty cool and actually got people screaming; But just like the haunted house itself, that fear was short lived. The haunted house ended in about 30 minutes and left me wanting A LOT more. Overall: long drive, long wait, not many scare actors, expensive, touch passes aren't worth it, inconsistent theme, and DISSATISFIED. Who pays $30+ to be scared by animatronics and wooden or metal bits and pieces + lights ?? I went to Asylum 49 around 2018, maybe 2019 with a friend. It was complex, we were separated immediately and constantly being dragged through different locations. I am not exaggerating when I tell you we both easily spent 1.5 hours in there with vastly different experiences. It was incredible and I had been wanting to go back ever since. I told everyone I knew about it and was ecstatic when I could go again this year (2024). My friend (who had never gone before) and I drove from Las Vegas specifically for this haunted house. I was embarrassed to have talked it up so much. There was hardly any contact, which we paid extra for. We also paid extra for their poison and blood packages, which we did not feel were worth it in any way. It was a standard haunted house, with very little of anything that made the extra effort and money worth it. My friend and I stayed together the entire time and I think the most that happened was we got asked to sit on an "exam table". The experience was the same as everyone else's, the complexity was gone and the entire ordeal was shorter than the time we spent in line. I hope to hear that they improve, as I know many business were heavily affected by COVID. However, my disappointment remains for the time being and it will be a few more years before I look into another visit. read more

This was my favorite haunted house last year, so I unfortunately brought a large group of friends with me after hyping them all up on how great it was. I was sadly underwhelmed with how short it was, the removal of some of the more scary parts, and how few actors there were (and the ones who were there were mostly just standing in rooms talking...not actually scaring people). Definitely a let down and not worth the long drive or paying more for contact which never even happened really. The entire group was disappointed in the experience which was a let down since it was so much fun last year. I visited my friend that was from around this city and after dropping her off I remembered watching an episode on ghost adventures of them doing a documentary about this place. Looked up the place and decided to take a look on how it looks. My friend told me that they use this place during Halloween for a scary haunted house or some event. Upon arriving here, it looked pretty awesome, it's empty. Although the grass is still green and I do see on the back end of the place that there were a few cars parked there telling me that I guess this place still functions. I was limited on time and didn't bother to go inside. But as I was walking around the building I did notice the smell of building. It had the old building wooden/brick smell to it. It was pretty cool. Towards the side of the building were two old ambulances that I guess they use as a form of display. This place is about 30-45 minutes away from downtown salt lake. Would be pretty cool to come check this place out during Halloween. read more

We've been sitting here for 4 hours waiting for them to look for our missing keys. They won't even let us go in to look. We got here at 8:30 and went through got done at 10:00. They apparently looked and didn't find them. We live 2 hours always and don't have anywhere to stay. We're left with about 2 workers now and we're probably going to have to walk to the nearest gas station with no percentage left on our phones. For me the jury is still out on Asylum 49. Here are two different experiences to help you perhaps understand why: 1) Let me start off by saying this WEDNESDAYS ARE WIMPY WEDNESDAYS. THIS MEANS EVERY WEDNESDAY IS NO CONTACT. This information is not on their website, and definitely should be. However, I'm glad that we came on a weekday. If you ask me, come on a weekday. Preferably a full contact weekday, but even so, the no contact weekday was far more unnerving than Friday when it got to be poppin. On this particular day, I was separated from my group from the get go, and went through the entirety of the haunt alone. I'm pretty tough to scare, and I never found myself genuinely terrified going through here. (Not necessarily their fault) To be honest, the no contact night was far more unnerving than contact night. Likely because on no contact night, I went through the entirety of the haunt by myself. There were probably only 10 other people in the haunt during my trip. Found myself unable to leave rooms, having one on one interactions with the actors. It certainly made for a much creepier experience. 2) Friday night. Pretty crowded. Never once alone during the entirety of the haunt. There's really not much they could have done about it though, seeing as there were far more people here. I still had a fun time, but I never once felt scared. What was more entertaining was watching the droves of people who WERE scared. So where does this leave me? I guess I need to come here on a night where it's full contact, and I go through it by myself. I feel like only then will the experience come full circle. This was the most disappointing experience I've ever had at this haunted house. We waited over three hours to enter. At that point the house had closed and the actors clearly wanted to go home. I get being tired at the end of a long day. But the lack of effort shows. They had stopped trying to scare us and were just sitting in the rooms. As far as haunted houses go they do a good job. The actors are great at what they do but the hands on is definitely more than what most would anticipate. Me and my girlfriend managed to make it all the way through the first time together. Right when we got out they RIPPED our hands apart and sent us right back in separate. Now this wasn't a big deal but after going through by yourself 4 times it got old. I could see that being fun for a bigger group of people but not a couple. Also they do tend to put props like knives and such up to you but one "doctor" slid what felt like a needle across my stomach which hurt a bit in the moment but when I got home and looked it actually left a good size scrape across my abdomen. One of the worst "haunted houses", super low budget, too dark to even see the props or the people trying to scare you. Rude actors, small children working in there which is weird not scary. 0 attempts to scare you all they do is talk and scream in your ear. Now for the safety part of it there is no ventilation so all you smell is smoke from the chainsaw, there are also uneven concrete that I tripped on about 8 times not to mention the head bangers. This was intense!! I would absolutely suggest going on a weekday, otherwise you may not get the full experience! We went on a Thursday night and it took 45 minutes to get into the haunt after buying our tickets. While waiting in line, they were randomly picking people to start the haunt going through all by themselves! In the 45 minutes we were in line, they picked about 5 people that they escorted to the front, opened the door, pushed them in and slammed the door shut! This was fun to watch! My sister and I were separated in the very first room! This set the tone for the rest of the haunt! The "doctor" put me on a hospital bed and covered me with a sheet then asked me if I like needles. I don't want to give away all the details but it lasted about a minute and had me running to find my sister! After finding my sister, we were stuck in a maze and she was suddenly ripped away from me by a werewolf and she was non stop screaming! There were times that we didn't want to be the first of the group we were with to go through a door, we were terrified of what was next! This was shorter than other haunts in Salt Lake, but definitely more intense. They tell you that you will be "touched, grab, separated from your group, detained in small dark areas and left, strapped to a metal bed and worked on by the crazies.". If you cannot handle this, DO NOT GO HERE! Again, I would not go on a weekend because it will be too busy to get the full experience. Also, haunted houses are meant to be fun, if you go into these places with a bad ass attitude, you won't have fun. This was the best haunted house I've been to and I'd like to think I've been to a lot of em and on multiple occasions. Yes they touch you. I was physically picked up off of my feet and carried more than once. Yes they scream and yell and say any number of things in your face. Yes you may be separated from your group. At one point I was shoved into a box and that was not exactly what I would call a good time. But hey, it's all in the name of fun right. The actors are pretty cool. They do a great job. After finishing, two of us were waiting for our other friend still inside somewhere when suddenly a bag was thrown over my head and I was carried back inside. When the three of us finally reunited (for good) outside, our one friend was actually crying when she started talking about what had happened while we were separated. And even I cant help but laugh now just thinking about it. Hahaha. It's definitely not for everyone. But those are the ones you tell, "oh it's not scary at all. It will be fun." This by far the scariest and best haunted house in the state! The fact that the actors know that they can touch you makes the way they scare it 100% better. It's the same price point as other haunted houses but I feel you get a better experience for your money here. Smaller groups are better, if you are in 1 large group you wont get the full affect. So what they really focus on is splitting you up from your group. While you're standing in line, if you tell the scary little girl you're not scared of her, shell call for her dad who happens to be huge. He will put a bad over your face, pick you up, and lock you in a closet to start the haunt by yourself. Really fun, I wasn't scared but then again I don't get scared much. However, I saw lots of people shaking and crying soooo I'm guessing it's a scary one ;) the place is like a maze from start to finish. Which means you could go around it again and again. Once I found my way out, I was buying skittles and waiting for my friends to finish when suddenly out of nowhere a dude grabbed me by the neck from behind, bagged me and threw me back in the haunt even though I was already finished. Went with a couple friends at about 11 pm on a Saturday. So the detaining at most would be an hour. Great experience. Although I felt bad for my friend cuz I would not let him go through the whole thing. But also I'm pretty sure I turned alot of employees off cuz every time I was jumped or touched I had a fist up and they kinda moved past me. I don't like the fact you can be separated like at least let there be a buddy system and have a partner so you're not totally alone. I'm afraid if I go again and get separated alone I will punch an employee not meaning to. Cuz they can on fact separate you and hold you for hours. In whatever means. Asylum 49 was simply a waste of money. You better pay for the VIP/fast pass/express lane ticket because we did standard admission and waited in line for 4 hours. We also arrived 5 minutes before opening. My advice for anyone DYING to go would be get there an hour before opening or pay the extra money for a fast pass VIP ticket. If you pay the standard ticket price, while waiting in line, actors and employees will come grab others waiting in line behind you that paid for the full-contact experience and take them to the front, making your wait in line even longer. Furthermore, this house was not the least bit scary. Everyone gets backed up in the house and you wind up being shoulder to shoulder with the groups in front of and behind you. All of their actors are placed in the middle of a room with a corny rehearsed one liner rather than in the shadows trying to scare you. There was over a dozen times I was in a dark tight space anticipating a jump scare about to pop out, but none never came. If you like waiting in line 4 hours and then speed running a 15 minute not-so-scary house than you should come here, but my advice skip this haunted house read more

People who are giving negative ratings are FUNNY! don't go to a haunted house if you get offended easily, don't go to a haunted house if you don't like to be separated from your group, especially one like this where they touch you and you give them permission to! know where you're going, don't wear nice coats/boots and get mad you were stuck outside in the rain because the clowns wouldn't let you in, or you had goo put in your hair.. yikes! This was the worst experience I've ever had in a Haunted House. Which is sad because I went to this same one 5-10 years ago and the changes they've made have degraded the experience. While I didn't care that they have made it possible the actors to touch you, this went beyond light touching. I didn't pay for the Extreme experience, just the normal ticket. In the beginning, a character separated me from my small group of 3 and took me into a disgustingly sticky bathroom, where he forcefully rubbed a sticky mixture all over my face and hands, (also getting it all over my sweater), even when I tried to push him away and tell him to stop. He ignored me and I had to walk though the rest of the extremely short Haunted House with sticky hands and it ruined the experience. Let me tell you about my awful experience here. first of all i have been to nearly all of the haunts in Utah this year and this one was the least scary. there were zero jump scares whatsoever. The "full contact" was basically them just touching you or licking your neck unless you were one of the few put on a bed. not once did i scream during the haunt because i was never scared. i got seperated from my group before i went in and it only took 10-15 minutes to get through. when they grabbed me to throw be back in the middle it only took another 5. this is the worst haunted house i have ever been too. the lady at the start that checks off tickets was also EXTREMELY rude to me. I said something she though was a bad word (its not even a swear word) and proceeded to yell at me that she would have me thrown out. Most of the actors inside just have a bit of fake blood on them and are wearing a nurse outfit and all they do is come up and talk to you. not scary at all. I wish i could give this place zero stars. Any of the rumors you hear about this being soooo scary and them doing crazy things to you are lies. they dont strap you down to a metal bed, they have you lay down and then put a blanket over you, and if you get taken away from your group they pretty much just put you in a different group and make you go through a part of it again. this haunted house needs some serious work done to it. I have to say I went in really excited. I scavenged my wallet so I could have the money to get in only to face a lot of dissapointment. There is always the good the bad and the ugly in a haunted house. I'll cover all three. The good: I loved the atmosphere and the sets were outstanding. To have those details and small things only a few would notice was really nice. I also thought the makeup was really nice and created a neat effect especially your plastic surgery mask.. The bad: I understand it was late but I felt pushed through, and like the actors were tired and no longer enjoyed themselves. Also. HYGENE!!! Bad breath and body odor was a big big problem The ugly: I drove an hour out to to enjoy a full contact experience. I was hardly touched, the most was one took my hood off and I got a needle in the neck. I came to be scared. Because I don't typically get scared and I hoped this would. When an actor failed to scare the fallback was to growl at me. Going wimpy Wednesday on accident was a more intense situation than the one I received tonight. I went in totally excited to get freaked out.....Not so much. Its 30$ for a "ghost tour" that lasts like 10 min....The tour guide was not even enthusiastic. It was still set up like the haunted house and it is a lot smaller than they make it out to be. All of the rooms that you are told you can go in are cram packed with random stuff so you cant even get in the room. There was only like 10 rooms. I will not spend money to go there again. Have to say that I didn't like how they can touch you, shove you, grab you and how they separate your party and have you go without them then end up with people you don't even know. Holding a strangers hand or arm is not my kinda fun It would've been funner with the peeps I went with. The worst part was lying in the closed casket and having it jerk for five minutes. I'm too claustrophobic and don't like those enclosed rides that jerk around. We went here last Saturday night and it was, pretty good. We went with a large group of people and expected to be separated, which we were. The beginning is the coolest part of the haunt as you get separated from your group and put in a chair or a hospital bed and messed with for a while. I appreciated how they didn't just ignore the big dudes like myself. They actually came and grabbed me out of line and took me right in by myself. I also got through to the end and they grabbed me 3 different times and took my back in to the haunt, which is very unique. I didn't like how you would end up running in to a large group eventually and go through the typical line of people trying to make it to the end of the haunt. That's the only reason for 3 stars. If I could give it no stars I would. Totally put off by the actor telling me and my 15 yr old daughter that the instrument she had held up to my face was used for opening vaginas and for holding surgical spots open. Led around in circles for what felt like forever only to be separated from my group for most of the time. And like a previous commenter -not at all happy about the sticky sap/honey-like goo wiped down my face that ended up all over my hair and clothing. Had to stop at Walmart for wipes so that I could hold the steering wheel to drive home. Really hoping my coat's not ruined. Drove an hr to get there expecting the experience we had there 5 or 6 yrs ago. So fun and scary and enhanced by the fact that it's in a real old hospital. Why the need to make everything so extreme?? I purchased "stat" passes so I didn't have to wait in a dark line outside. After going in it was very obvious that their budget was low. Their props seemed cheap and there definitely were not actors in every room. Some rooms just had a scary doll in a corner. I went through the entire thing in about 15 minutes and had zero to none interactions. I was sat down on a bench and that was it while others were locked on gurneys and forced to go in small spaces. I was prepared to be scared based off the website and instead I was out of there without having a single scare. Unless you're a lightweight female, don't go. And even if they do drag you around you'll be put in rooms with satanic symbols that seem very unnecessary. Of all the haunted houses in Utah, and yes I've been to them all, this one is the best!!! Reading other people's reviews, they complain about being separated for their group, some gross concoction that gets rub on you face, and the shortness of the house. Well yes, all the complaints are true but it makes this place great!! I spent most of my time separated from my group of seven. They put a bag over my head, stuck me in the bathroom, and I got something wiped on my face. The actors kept in character, and when I screamed, they yelled at me to shut up. It was so fun being separated because you had no one to lean on and it was each man for himself. (The concoction wipes right off your face and cones out of clothes so no worries!) I only wish it was longer, but being separated, screamed at, locked in a coffin, made the length perfect. I was excited to get out. However, some of my friends were not so lucky. They got trapped forever. We had to wait for them to exit cause they kept getting led astray by the amazing actors. So fun, scary, realistic, and I can't believe I waited so long to visit this place. Tooele isn't that far from Salt Lake and I will be back next year. read more

This was the best haunted house I have been to. I've been to nightmare on 13th a few times, the haunted woods, and the 5 spider lagoon haunted house & this one was the most entertaining by far. I went with a group of 4 & we were only all together at the ticket window. The member of our group who displayed the most fear was plucked from our bunch immediately and confined somewhere...The make up and costumes were awesome, especially if you love American Horror. If you don't like to be touched or are claustrophobic, this is not for you. Pretty dang scary. Definitely not for kids. read more
