I surprised my girlfriend on a little trip to Astoria. We love anything haunted and this was definitely a hidden gem. We showed up at 7pm at a very cute, vintage butcher shop, which was closed at that time. My girlfriend puzzled at why we were standing outside a butcher shop on her birthday. Shortly after the owner of the butcher shop and tour guide for the night, Diana, opened the door and greeted us to come inside. Our tour, which was very intimate as we were the only two who had booked that time-slot, started with a little history of the building and Diana explained where we would be traveling in the basement, along with the things we would see. Diana lead the way as we ventured down some stairs into a time capsule of a basement. Even if you aren't into the haunted or the spooky, the history alone that this tour will provide, is worth every penny. Diana goes into detail about the devastating fire that burned down most of downtown Astoria. Beams overhead are still charred black, showing signs of that scary event. Mounds of antiques and furnishings lay thoughtfully placed along the hallways, which help to tell the story of the past. We learned that the tv show Ghost Adventures spent a night in the basement back in 2018 and documented a lot of activity, especially in a room called the Ghost Room. My girlfriend and I were encouraged to use our phones to take photos and videos along the way. We were also given various ghost hunting electronics to use while on our exploration. Our haunting experience was definitely very active and we also discover the eeriest of feelings when we were in the Ghost Room as well. Upon reviewing our video footage from that room, we discovered so many orbs flying around each of us. You can also definitely sense as if someone is standing right behind you the entire time that you're in that room. The entire tour lasted just a little over an hour, which we felt was a perfect amount of time to take everything in. If you happen to find yourself in Astoria, going on this little ghost hunting adventure in the evening, is the perfect way to seal off an amazing day at the coast!

Awesome tour! Had fun taking pics and investigating. Jourdan was a great tour guide. Got a few amazing pics with ghost faces and a weird "halo" around me and Jourdan.

I went on a lantern tour at Fort Steilacoom Park which is located next to Western State Mental Hospital in Lakewood. There is a ton of history in this park and the hospital once owned the land. So there are old barns here and a cemetery of patients that died as well as ruins of other structured here. We went through here around Halloween time so best get reservations in as they fill fast and they don't offer many of them. We went by lantern in the dark to the cemetery and learned about some of the patients that lie resting here and then what went on in the ruins when the hospital had the land. It was definitely creepy and grim but fascinating as you learned a lot of history from the guide. When we went here it was raining a lot and that really added to the creepy vibe which was a nice addition to the experience but glad I had an umbrella with me! Looking forward to doing more of these tours in the future. I really liked this particular tour and would love to do a ghost tour sometime.

He was just as awesome as on his videos, very funny and genuine. The tour was fantastic, I am absolutely going to do all the other tours now. The story of the reoccurring murder had me hooked. It was super spooky to be guided through Tacoma by lamp light. Our group was fun and I even had other birthday buddies who celebrated with this spooky tour. So don't wait, go book, like right now. It's worth every penny.

We just moved from Denver a few years ago so always looking for good eats! We decided to check out a neighborhood that we've never explored ourselves and we had such a great time. We took the Mississippi Ave Tour and really enjoyed the different eats that was picked out for us! We started at the food carts and had some delicious BBQ then walked a couple blocks and got to try this delicious glass noodle salad and local wine. Honestly, I was pretty full already from those first two stops but we had two more to go! We ended up going to a local brewery as well as a dairy-free ice cream shop! Being lactose intolerant, I was ECSTATIC to know that this ice cream place was all dairy free! Everyone was pleasantly surprised at the texture of the ice cream and the different flavors that was offered! Being locals we weren't sure what to expect in a group setting but everyone was a joy to be with. Our group consisted of friends celebrating a birthday and a married couple that was visiting for the weekend from Seattle. Our guide Heidi lead us on a delicious trip around Portland and cannot wait to attend her other tours or even possibly her food tours abroad! It was such a pleasure to spend a lovely Saturday with Heidi.

The Forktown Food tour was Forking Fabulous (surely I'm not the first one to capitalize on such…read morealliteration?). Ariel, our tour guide, immediately won points in my book for being both an artist and a New Mexican native. These traits are not what made her an apt, knowledgeable, or personable tour guide, per say, but they're what made me see my reflection in her mirror. "Hey! I'm an artist (writer) from New Mexico and a food tour guide, too!" With that said, Ariel did an awesome job. She knows her history, her food, her city, and has a fun personality to tie it all together. Our group was a mix of locals and travelers, solo eaters (yours truly) and a group of friends. We all got along great, and enjoyed every stop. What I enjoyed most about this was 1) the location. Mississippi Ave is a gem! Get out of downtown and explore this place! 2) the diversity of dining. I'm not well-versed enough in Korean Mexican food to know what to order at a food cart, same with Thai cuisine (um, Pad Thai? Yes I am that uneducated), so I was glad to have a great dish handed to me. Also, I liked the balance of savory, sweet, and even vegetables, and the fact it moved like a progressive meal (salad, appetizer, main, palate cleanser, dessert). I definitely recommend!

We got there a little early and saw that there was also paper waivers you could sign if you hadn't gotten to the electronic one. We left promptly on time, so get there early! The tour went really smoothly, just remember: *Be respectful to your tour guide *Don't weirdly interrupt with side jokes *Don't talk to the people within your group while the guide is talking *For the love of all that is holy, stop fidgeting when the tour guide is talking. *It is insanely annoying and ultimately so rude. There are low spaces, very dark/low visibility areas, uneven floors, steep and narrow stairs and low hanging pipes. If you can't maneuver regular stairs, this tour isn't for you. Our guide's name was Skippy- I believe, they were great! The group I was with had done this tour 5 times already and they said this tour guide was the best one yet. At the end of the tour there is a tip jar that you can tip your guide or they provide their Venmo as well. IDs are checked at the beginning of the tour only for the people who plan to partake in the beer tasting that is at the tail end of the tour (not in the restuarant). After the tour I got the non-alcoholic option and ordered a mango flavored Italian soda with cream, which was incredible!!

So much great information about the river and shipping!!! We saw a harbor seal, sea lions, a bald eagle, a crane and lots of seagulls and other birds. It was a little chilly so we were glad for our coats, hats and gloves. Watching from below wouldn't have been nearly as fun as being up on the deck. I have two suggestions for improvement and would have given 5 stars: 1. The boat needs some tidying up. Even if someone lives here sometimes, put things away, dust, vacuum, etc. so the first impression upon boarding isn't one of entering a messy dorm room. 2. Offer bottled water or some sort of light snack and beverage. It's a 3 hour trip. Sure we brought our own but it would be a nice touch. I imagine some of the local companies would give you a deal to offer their products and help spread the word about their delicious beer, chocolate, baked goods, etc. Well worth the cost and a great way to really see Astoria and understand this river town.
