Stay far away from this place ! my boyfriend, who is a veteran mind you, goes here and he has literally been taught absolutely nothing. He is on phase 2 now and there's no instructors, no education. Classmates are stealing products because there's no instructors there to guide you and teach you what you need to learn even though you are paying for it, you are paying to further your career and can't even get the resources or education from this place. Also administration is shady as hell the girl in there had the audacity to touch my boyfriend on the shoulder inappropriately and when he said something to her about it and to not touch him, she said then you can just leave and laughed at him. I wish we never spent a dime here ! Stay away from this place. They're shady ,they lie and just take your money and don't teach you. I discovered ABC when I moved to San Diego 30+ years ago (when it was still in the Gaslamp District) and have been extremely satisfied ever since. There has been a change (I believe) of ownership/management in very recent years and it's all for the better. Instructors are true seasoned professionals and teach their students to the same. My haircuts? Exactly as requested, precision oriented and of course, the best bargain in town. Students are monitored constantly by the instructors (my favorite being Nick) and if needed, the instructor will assist. I still can't get over that a quality haircut costs only $7 here now. The educators and mentors at this bastion of learning are the foundation of many of the finest professional Barbers in San Diego and beyond. Went for a cut while my barber was out of town, I was skeptical at first because the price was only $7. I was thinking this is too good to be true. I will say I was surprised at the level of skill my barber had. I really felt like I was in the barbershop, the student I had was cool and the other students created a shop atmosphere. I walked in because I was just walking by and wanted a haircut. I googled the nearest place and this was it. It seem to have great reviews. However, when I walked in the gentleman at the front desk, whose name is Popeye was asked by me how long was the wait? He said not long. And I asked how long is not long. He said a minute I said OK and I started the timer on my phone. Because he was being obstinate and it wasn't going to take a minute. Everyone knew that, including all of the people waiting in line. The people in line said this is not the guy that you want to mess with. Which I'm assuming means that he is aggressive to everyone not just me. Hy tried to record him saying all of this stuff again after him telling me to get the F out. I immediately said I was just trying to get a haircut and trying to figure out my timing for the day. And he would not speak one single word after that because he knew you was being recorded. I will keep the recording or maybe I can post it. Last week i came here to get my son his haircut by one of the student barbers named Daniel. Daniel paid close attention and did an amazing job! Daniel also recommended some gel products to my son which worked great for his hair type. Not only was i impressed with my sons hair cut but i was also impressed by the customer service. The engagement each student barber had with their clients shows how well they pay attention to the clients and their needs. Students are supervised by an instructor. This school provides a professional environment to lead upcoming barbers in the industry. I highly recommend this Barber school and all of the student barbers there. Good for what it is. An inexpensive - read: very inexpensive - way to get a haircut from men and women looking to get really world experience. The caveat being you will probably not get the kind of consideration you would get if you went to a more expensive place. For example, Eduardo cut my hair a couple of times but told me he couldn't give me the cut I wanted because of the 'bumps' on my head. Never heard that one before. So I stopped going. My friend Daisy Ayala attends this school and I reached out to her for a hair cut and color. We set up a date and time and let me say the staff and students at the school were more professional then some businesses I've gone to. All the students were wearing smocks and portrayed a very professional image. I'm disabled and require use of a walker. The students, all the students, made sure my safety was priority. The instructors were on hand to help Daisy and the other students. This school had a steady flow of customers from young to old of all hair type and these students were amazing with there skills. This barber college is a joke! The students were all punching each other and less than half of them actually looked like they were doing something.. besides picking at their own finger nails. My friend warned me and went to this school and said it was crap and not structured at all. I found out for myself she was telling the truth! I visited his place on two occasions.. Both in which this same blonde little hussy with an attitude problem was flirting with more than a handful of guys who also went to school there and grabbed at them right in front of the other clients. Get a room? You're representing your school and there are other clients waiting to actually get your services. So trashy.. Anyways, back to my point.. So I actually was considering going to this school, now I'm glad to say I will never be going back there or recommend any one attend school there or go there unless they want to see a bunch of immature kids. Monica (an instructor there) was rude when I had asked her about the school since I wanted to see if I should go there. She was talking to me whole eating??... Food in mouth, gross! She acted as if I was bugging her and taking up her time. Also I spoke with Ron and he was the worst part of this whole experience!! He was a cranky over weight old man.. The things he had said to me were so rude! I couldn't believe what he was saying to a potential student and would be paying money to go to their school. Well I guess I could see why he was grumpy seeing as he has to deal with a bunch of young immature punk ass kids who don't take this school seriously.. probably won't even graduate barber college and if they do they probably won't end up doing hair.. Associated Baber college is an amazing school to attend, easy to apply. Being a student here is more then just classroom environment , we actually get hands-on with history, state board, and chemistry to name a few. Their innovative style of teaching has allowed me to retain the knowledge being passed by instructors. The school has just recently allowed potential students for financial aid and are currently working with a rep to speed up the process. Lastly, the school is military friendly so anyone using the GI bill come on threw. just bring your ID, SSC, Birth Cert, DD214, and high school diploma. read more

If you want to become a barber, don't come here. I have been in an endless process to have them tell me what financial aid I was awarded, and the amount of student loans I was eligible for. I waited four weeks, when I know the information gets to them in three days. Each time I called they just told me to call back next week. Week after week went by until it turned into over a month. So i try and set up an appointment with the lady in charge of financial aid, they schedule a phone appointment with her and when i call them she is on a conference call. Isn't that why we set up an appointment? Then the lady who answered the phone tells me they don't call me back because they have nothing to tell me after a month. It seems like they could really care less about who attends their college, that is fifteen thousand dollars! All the kids answering the phone are extremely rude and I've been hung up on multiple times. Good luck with your business plan! If you are looking for a barber college and have to use student loans/financial aid, id recommend calling a school that cares, this one is NOT it! read more
