I paid in full and 8 months later they sent me a bill. Dentures didn't fit. I had to go back multiple times.

I am basing this review on my experience as a middle-aged female back in the early mid 2000 period…read more According to Roanoker Mag., HHFD is always voted sky high, so it must be good, right? We were looking for a new dentist after our old one retired, & he was the best in the Roanoke Valley & sold his practice to Dr. Harvey @ a diff location. I digress. We received a mailer stating free x-rays for new patients by Hunting Hills Family Dentistry & my husband & I decided to give them a try, even though it was a 40min drive & one must make a U-turn to get into it. I made the 1st appt., thinking I would hv a regular 6-mo checkup, free x-rays, & cleaning on that 1st day. I checked in, gave all of my insurance info & dental insurance to a lady that was designated for that. I was then told to wait until my name called. It was called, a nice, very young girl looked at my teeth & used the standard tools. Five to seven, maybe 10min tops. She said I was done & to go make followup appt, which I sadly did. Thought I'd get my teeth cleaned that day. At the next appt. my hygienist (forgot her name) was fantastic at cleaning my teeth. I can't remember if X-rays came before or after my cleaning, but Dr. Levine came in & looked everything over & apparently no cavities. I am led to a special lady (not the reception/payment desk) that has my info in front of her & is explaining "my dental plan" , patients be wary of this term. My retired dentist & my current family dentist office never used these terms. Apparently that first look I got by the very young girl cost $250 & wasn't covered by insurance. I should have never gone back, but I liked my hygienist for the excellent work she did. I also wanted a crown or veneer put on the 3rd uppr L tooth bc of tetracycline staining in 60s. I went for that appt. & some lady, I figure an assistant, was telling me how horrible my excellent work by retired dentist was!!! I told her none of the work he had done, had ever come undone, & I still have the original six upper porcelain veneers 41yrs later with no problems whatsoever bc I take care of my teeth & he was such an excellent dentist w excellent hygienists/assistants. Dr. Levine shows me the "tooth" coloring chart & I select the best one that matches the other front teeth. Long story short, they gave me the wrong color, & I told the lady from before. Her words "we gave you the correct color, it's just the light that makes it look different". Dr. Levine comes in & I tell him, & he actually checks & says they did give wrong color. I say I want that free, but will pay for the labor & he agrees. The lady is gone, & Dr. Levine was called away. Since the walls are paper thin, you can hear everything. A young sounding woman is complaining (to whomever?) that ever since she got her implant, she's been in excruciating pain, & nothing but problems, & wants it out today! The calvary was called, & many ppl had to march right behind me in the aisle to get to the room next door. Dr. Levine came back, & so my eavesdropping was interrupted. I scheduled the appt. for the correct color veneer. My husband never had any problems, never had that 1st "evaluation exam for $250" just got his teeth cleaned. I decided to cut my losses & keep my see-through incorrect yellow veneer. I liked Dr. Levine a lot, but that unshaven stubble made him appear unclean & that bothered me. I also liked the hygienist a lot, but in the end, the hassle of getting there taking 40mins, + the U-turn, hearing probs a person has with pain w one implant, were enough to make me look elsewhere. Also, family dentistry like the old days is vanishing. Most around this area are predatory dentists that train their staff to suggest all kinds of unnecessary procedures. If you go to a place that hands you a "treatment plan" costing thousands of dollars, run! Ask neighbors, friends, & relatives. Drive up & down streets & look for family dentistry, not cosmetic! Also very important is to look up your dentist & practice name in the Virginia Dept. of Health professions & you can see any disciplinary actions taken against them & also any settled lawsuits. Do this for all of your doctors & specialties like ophthalmology, dermatology, oncologists & radiation oncologists. They aren't kept for perpetuity, so print them out & make copies. The rating of 2 stars was for the friendliness & courtesy of reception area & the ease of making appts. Also the waiting area was very nice back then & they had an excellent choice of current magazines for patients to browse through.

After being awarded the Triad Yelper of the Year 2024 Award at the Yelpies Award Ceremony last…read moreyear, an event that honored the highest-performing Yelp Elites, I decided that it would be appropriate this year to go back to this dental office for a dental cleaning appointment and write a follow-up review. Dental cleanings are essential for maintaining optimal oral health and are key to maintaining healthy teeth and gums. I had an appointment to have my teeth cleaned for 11:00am this morning. A few days ago I received an email reminding me of the appointment and asking me to confirm that I would be there by clicking on a confirmation link on the email. I went ahead and confirmed after seeing that I had it listed on my cellphone calendar schedule. Yesterday, I also received a telephone call from them to remind me of the appointment and notify me that I would also be receiving a fluoride treatment not covered by my insurance that would cost $48. I confirmed that I would be there and paying this amount with my credit card. From last time when I also received this preventive treatment I knew that it helps strengthen your enamel and reduces your risk for cavities. I arrived at around 10:45am. The receptionist was on the phone and she had a young lady with a notebook on hand who seemed to be shadowing her to learn about how to do her job. I wasted there until she finished her phone call and then she asked me for my name. I gave her my name and told her I had an 11 o'clock appointment. She then mentioned the payment I needed to make for the amount the insurance wasn't covering and I told her that I was aware of it and was paying it with a credit card. I handed her my card and paid for it. She then asked me to have a seat and that I would be called shortly. I did. Two other people who were there before me were called and around 11:10am I was called in by my hygienist Kadie. I noticed she was a different one than the one I had last time and I welcomed this because the other one had forgotten to floss my teeth, one of the essential steps in dental cleaning. I had researched and found out that during these visits a dental hygienist is supposed to clean, polish, and floss your teeth to remove hardened plaque, tartar and bacteria buildup from your teeth surfaces. And that when combined with diligent brushing and flossing at home, dental cleanings help achieve and maintain healthy teeth and gums. The new hygienist Kadie took me to the room where she would be cleaning my teeth. She was very friendly and knowledgeable. She greeted me very professionally but at the same time amiable. She asked me appropriate questions about me my health and teeth. Then engaging in conversation to put me at ease. Following by treatments commonly performed during a dental cleaning such as Scaling, Polishing, and Flossing. During scaling, she used an ultrasonic scaler, which vibrated and sprayed a jet of water. She also used used hand instruments called scalers to remove plaque and tartar from my teeth surfaces. During polishing, she polished my teeth using a soft rubber cup and a special paste. This removed my biofilm on my teeth surfaces and will reduce plaque buildup without damaging my enamel. She then concluded the treatment by flossing my teeth. Then she went to ask my dentist if the dentist wanted to come in and examine my teeth, but the dentist told her that since there were no issues she would skip it this time until my next appointment. So then my hygienist Kadie proceeded to apply my fluoride treatment and gave me the instructions of when I could eat, what food temperatures to avoid, and when could I brush my teeth next. She also encourage me to floss more often. After asking me if I had any more questions for her, I asked the question of it was helpful to brush your teeth after lunch. She told me that twice a day was enough but it wouldn't hurt if it was convenient for me and at times when eating certain kinds of food. Then she proceeded to ask me what day of the week would be more convenient for me to schedule the next cleaning and time preference. After I told her this information and asked that I wanted to have her as my permanent hygienist, she scheduled the appointment for six months from now. My insurance covers dental cleaning twice a year. In concussion, I was very satisfied with the professional and kind treatment that I received from my hygienist and can understand why the dentist didn't come to see me, even though I would have liked that she would have.

We made one for 7am Saturday morning, when we arrived they said they cant glue it back in because they didn't install it!?! What are the chances a person in their 50s walks in there off the street and has had a crown installed there when they've only been in town less than 5 years Not to mention the dentist was late getting into work when they open at 7am. Three years ago they said they take walk ins and my mother had the same problem empty promises, no help, no thanks.

I had such a great experience with an extraction and evaluation of my needs to get my smile back…read more However the overall problem was the lack of clarity between the front desk and the dentist. I was x-rayed and the dentist was very kind. He went tooth by tooth and had his assistant type up a 3 tier plan for each tooth and printed the plan out. He explained that even with insurance it would be expensive but he could save me From dentures. He said there were no limits to financial payment plans that suit all incomes. That it could be extended for years so that I could afford it and not have to worry. I loved him and his assistant. Upon leaving the chair he handed me a copy of the 3 teir plan with the details and price estimates for each teir. I got to the front desk they said my Ameritus Platinum insurance wasn't calling them back. The lady at the front desk said "don't worry about it right now." Then she took the paper of the price estimates and the 3 teir plan that my dentist had worked so hard to put together and said "in fact I'll just discard this for you" and ripped up the detailed info that the dentist had given me for a reason. I figured they were all of the same page. I mentioned that there were 3 teirs on there and she said the next available appointment to start the process was 4-6 months away. Again the dentist seemed to know the urgency of my condition. So I left in shock. My mom later came in and asked the dentist why does my son have to wait til March for his work to begin? The dentist - the same one that saw me told her "oh he doesn't have to wait he can come in anytime" I had to return for another extraction. When that was completed the dental assistant said do you want to go ahead with the other teeth or just wait? I'm numbed up and unable to talk. She said before I could get an answer to her somehow, "you want to just wait? Let's just wait then" I didn't want to wait but I had no way to Talk and say no do it now please. She seemed like they wanted me out of there until later. Now the front desk is another person that insisted on payment. I mumbled that I was told of a payment plan and options. (I had yet to see any of the options available that the dentist assured me of). She said " well how much do you want to pay because you owe us $800 already. I think another lady said we still haven't heard from his insurance so they let me go" But the demands and late notices and texts continued to become more hostile and urgent. So I wrote and asked 1) where was the payment plan options I was promised? 2) Why was my insurance not working and why was I told not to worry about it then later told to pay up) and 3) why was my 3 teir plan ripped up and 4) why was I told front the front desk I'd have to wait 4-6 months then my mom was told by the dentist that I can come in anytime? Later I got a letter saying we can't treat you. Your attitude and rudeness will not be tolerated. I immediately walked into the office with my cell phone rolling and showed the front desk my letter. The dentist said all of your communication with us was rude. I said I was simply asking why nothing was done as promised. The front desk had their own set of rules based on who was working that day and that I was told about payment plans and never offered any, told not to worry about paying then harassed to pay, etc. the dentist said "well we can pull up your communications" I said good! It proves my points I wasn't trying to be rude but literally nothing was consistent between one person to the next - the dentist didn't seem to know what the front desk was saying. The other front desk lady didn't know what the First Lady had told me. The dentist seemed unaware that I was told to wait at least 4-6 months then told my mom to have me come anytime. I mentioned that the costumer is why they exist. And the customer had rights and in any business the customer deserves the benefit of the doubt. I'm reporting all of this to the state and to the BBB. Gaslighting a customer for being woefully inept in their communication and bedside manner is wrong. I'm sure teeth cleanings and occasional work is met with friendly smiles and service m. But if you have lots of work you need done, beware that even holding them to their word will result in being denied treatment and kicked out of their dentistry.
