This is a corporate practice, if you are expecting to receive a personalized, kind and friendly service, then you may be in for a disappointment. Nevertheless this is my impression based on my personal experience: Pros: * I had a dental emergency and I was scheduled ASAP. * They honored the schedule they gave me, and they took care of what was needed at the moment. * I promptly received the attention, and the prescription needed was timely provided. Cons: * The female doctor who was assigned to me was very arrogant, and way more concerned about looks and cosmetic dentistry, than my overall dental health. She was dealing with the wrong person, because if my health is not taken care of first and foremost, I could care less about cosmetic dentistry, "looks!!" She chose the wrong location to sell her ideas, so she needs to move to Hollywood, CA. Oh wait! Competition is way too big for her there, and she doesn't have what it takes to compete with the LA dental market!!! * Their prices are exorbitant. read more

We had just moved from Virginia in January 2026 and this was an "in network" provider in South Dakota. First, you have to make an appointment with their corporate number, totally unrelated to the actual office. Next we traveled there on a snowy day from Spearfish (50 miles away), only to have them collect all our information and make us sit and then tell us that they were short on hygenist and to please come back for a later cleaning. We even called our former dentist to have them send all xrays and told them we ONLY wanted care/cleaning covered by our insurance. Our former dentist warned us this was a corporate profits-driven company and to watch what they charged us for! We left owing no money or co-pay. What shows up a month later? A bill for $110 for my wife, which we called to complain about (since I had no extra charges). Panaromic X-rays (unneccesary) and the flouride treatment which we'd charged $50 on our credit card at the dentist for. Needless to say, we canceled our future appointments and will NEVER return. We have since moved again. Of course here in Washington State, they have ASPEN Dental but we won't ever go to one again nor recommend one. read more

This would have been my 3rd visit to Aspen Dental in Rapid City. Since I don't have dental insurance (I believe this to be a key factor) I went for the free X-Ray/consultation. Found the waiting area to still have expired seasonal decorations and generally dirty. This worried me a bit. Exam went well. Doctor kept asking me if this bothered me or this or that. No sir. I have been blessed with great dental care in the past and generally don't have any issues. Like to keep up with my cleanings. They scheduled a cleaning. I went back for the cleaning. Found office to still be unkept. Gals behind desk gossiping where waiting patients could hear. As for the cleaning: I think I was in the chair less than 15 minutes when the hygienist announced that my teeth are beautiful keep up the great work you're all done. I was in a little bit of shock as I think she touched maybe 10 of my teeth - maybe. My husband on the other hand does not have the best dental outcomes, does have insurance, and they had a whole schedule of things that he needed to have done. He denied them and the doctor came in explaining the worst possible outcomes if my husband chose to not elect to have all of these things done. My husband stood his ground. We scheduled our next six month appointment at the same time. Fast forward to today - more fuel to irritate me. We live an hour away, My husband took half a day off of work and I have to take antibiotics prior to any dental work being done and had just taken them. I was sort of dreading going, because if I got the same type of cleaning today it would be a year that my teeth were not properly cleaned. We were just getting ready to get in the car to drive to our appointment. I pulled my phone out of my pocket to take a picture of something and saw that I had an email notification. I quickly glanced at it and it said something about cancel your appointment. I thought that it was one of their 10 reminder messages that they send reminding you about your appointment. If you can't make your appointment, please call us to reschedule or cancel..... But something told me to take a closer look. The email in fact did say that we need to cancel your appointment please call our office to reschedule. This was received an hour prior to my appointment. So I stopped what I was doing and call. Now one would think that the office would call you in person this close to your appointment time to cancel or at least send you a text. I got three text as a reminder of my appointment, but you just send one little email to cancel. So anyway, I called and come to find out a hygienist called in sick. I completely understand that. But what if you don't get email on your phone and you're in route to your appointment. We could've driven an hour. Plus I had to take an antibiotic which I already did. Again, I understand when someone gets sick. It is what it is. However, Aspen dental could have looked and saw that these two patients are coming from out of town. They're coming together. They both have an appointment together. Let's call them and see if we can't figure something out. Perhaps move another patient around that's local. Not that I'm anything special, it just begs a second look at how you do your scheduling. Then I decided to read reviews. The lightbulb came on. I don't have any dental issues, I pay cash therefore there is no insurance to bill extras out to. I am the type of patient that Aspen dental does not want. Well Aspen dental, you lost two patients. Hindsight being what it is you canceling my appointment was a blessing. I will happily pay a higher cash price at a qualified dental office so that I can continue to receive the care that I have been used to in the past. I encourage you to read reviews of Aspen Dental and decide for yourself if you want to be treated there. We should have done that from the start! read more

AVOID AT ALL COSTS! I have never posted a bad review before but I want to help save someone from going through the distress that I was caused yesterday!!! I went in because I had a small crack in my tooth. The Aspen dentist hardly looked at it, referred me to a root canal specialist, then planned for me to come back in get a crown over the tooth afterwards. I went to a different dentist for a second opinion, and he was shocked to hear this. He said that my tooth was still in perfectly healthy condition and he definitely wouldn't recommend that course of action. Additionally, Aspen was telling me that I needed a gingivitis cleaning, which I would have to partially pay out of pocket for because my insurance only covers a regular cleaning. When I went to my new dentist, they told me that my gums were perfectly healthy and that I definitely do not need a gingivitis cleaning. Aspen also wanted me to come back in for a second cleaning three months after they would've done the initial gingivitis cleaning, which I also would've had to pay out of pocket for. All when my new dentist said that regular cleanings every six months (as typically recommended) would only be needed for me. It truly seems like Aspen is trying to steal your money for procedures and treatments that are not even necessary!!! I was so scared when the Aspen dentist suggested a root canal- he was very short when answering my questions and quickly left the room, leaving the woman who did my X-Rays to answer my questions when she could see that I was still concerned. The Aspen dentist was also not thorough when checking my tooth either; He only glanced at it, when my new dentist took closer images of the tooth with a special light and also performed a sensitivity test on it to make sure that the nerves weren't damaged. I am so glad I got a second opinion from a different dentist and would not recommend this place whatsoever. I left Aspen crying and I was so upset the rest of the day. Truly an unwelcoming and misleading experience. I can't believe that Aspen wanted to kill off my healthy tooth!!! I would've been sad forever! Save your teeth and do not go here!!! They just want to make as much money as they possibly can off of you! Also went in there for emergency dental work and they were short staffed two people and was unable to see me. They had to reschedule everyone. Let's see if they can even keep my regular appointment. They are a total rip off. they give you the savings plan and then they give you an estimate of $7000 worth of work and have to refer you out for some of it but never call you back to have the crown put on. worst dental care in town and just for your information, they're not cheaper than anyone else! the savings plan actually costs you more and they're using cheap metal. you should go onto the Aspen dental Facebook group and read about some of the horror stories Do not waste your money read more

I have a health condition that requires me to get my teeth cleaned quarterly. We are traveling and contacted Aspen Dental in Rapid City, South Dakota. I am required to take an antibiotic an hour before the procedure, which I had taken before my appointment today. In order to have my teeth cleaned for my first visit I was required to have an exam with x-rays. The exam and x-rays were very professional. It was explained to me after the exam that I would have to reschedule for the cleaning which I was told would happen on my first visit. The cost for cleaning had gone from $103 for a general cleaning to $1800 for a deep cleaning. This should have been a simple cleaning for the normal cleaning rate. I have my teeth cleaned on a regular basis. I feel like I was being scammed and everything was an upsale. I would not recommend Aspen Dental to anyone. read more

I hate having to leave a crappy review because the office staff and the oral hygienist and the people who do X-rays and the people who who work there are amazing except the actual dentist. Terrible service. We waited for almost a year for this local office to hire a dentist and dental hygienist. I have no complaints about the dentist; however, the hygienist is grumpy, disingenuous, and NOT gentle when cleaning. She complained about other staff when I saw her, and when my daughter saw her, she mislead my daughter regarding treatment. My daughter requested a regular cleaning as our insurance covers this at 100%. The hygienist without consultation made notes about it being a more extensive cleaning thus resulting in a bill to us. My first visit was great...very nice staff. The day I went in for oral surgery I was only given novacain and nothing else. Worst experience in my entire life!!!! I left with guase in my mouth with deep dark red blood running down my face and down the front of me. I was shaking out of control from the high blood pressure..159/99!!! My teeth they put in were sliding all over my mouth causing me to gage! I'm so afraid to go back for my permeate teeth. No pain meds no antibiotics..NOTHING but a hell of a lot of pain read more

Front desk people are always friendly however scheduling is always a problem here. Multiple times I've shown up with my appointment cards to find out there is no appointment. The last dentist I saw at this location was cold and was in for all of two seconds. I don't even trust that he looked at my teeth. I had the best dental experience of my life at Aspen Dental. I have been to dentists in many parts of the country and this was by far the best I have ever experienced. I am 73 and have never experienced a painless dental encounter like this before. I needed a deep cleaning, one extraction and a filling replacement. The oral hygienist was super and did a very through cleaning. Dr. Schmalz performed my 2 procedures completely painless. I was amazed at how well it went. On a scale of zero to 5 stars I would rate this dental clinic 6 stars. To help make matters even better the entire staff was very helpful and friendly. I wish this staff the very best for the future and highly recommend them to anyone new dental care. My wife and I are moving back to Texas soon and will surely miss them all. I have severe anxiety when it comes to dentists. I finally got up enough courage and made an appt in Rapid City in July of 2022. They only had ONE dentist (unlike what is advertised on their website). The dentist there was very short and rude, basically told me he didn't have time for me and to find another dentist. I had 4 teeth pulled, on the bottom, the only teeth left in my mouth. Took forever to get my permanent dentures. When I finally had the permanent ones, they fit crooked in my mouth. I am constantly putting adhesive on, 3-4 times a day. They make it hard to eat with. When I am half way through my meal, they become lose. I think they could have done something to them to, correct the way they fit. I wouldn't give them good marks. read more

Aspen Dental - Rapid City, SD The old adage you get what you pay for applies to Aspen Dental. Three years ago, I was coerced into getting a new upper plate with a 7 year warranty. In the past year, the new plate has cracked 3 times. The last time I went in for yet another repair - I asked for a new plate. The dentist told me the cracks are because I have a "strong bite" & they won't replace the denture. What a load of ***. I had my old plate for over 15 years with no breaks or cracks, just some natural wear. The warranty is absolutely worthless. I will not ever go back to Aspen Dental. read more

I'm increasing my original rating by one star. On the minus side, the permanent partial was so ill-fitting that, after 6 trips back for adjustments, we scrapped it and started over. On the plus side, the second time around was a charm and they fit perfectly. (I blame the lab they out-source to for the first debacle.) Finally, they replaced at no additional charge to me, so I was only out the time and frustration dealing with the first partial. read more

My left back molar had caused me pain for years. Had it refilled and pain still. Always issues in the gums around it. I went to Aspen, they found the why. In my case, I opted to have it pulled. They numbed me and waited, The lack of pain during the shot helped me with my fear of shot pain. They waited to be sure I had no pain. They found an area with feeling, they administered more medication and waited. No rushing to make me feel I had to pretend I was ok if I felt something painful. They talked with me about what I may feel and how to let them know if I felt anything. Basically, I felt them moving, my tooth moving, numbed (not in pain) pressure, it was out. My fear of a dentist hurting me again, basically gone. I wonder how they hygienist will do in a few months when I can get back. Well that's a story I look forward to telling another day. read more

I got an appointment for a few weeks ago, and Aspen Dental ended up rescheduling me for a time I couldn't make so I had to cancel. They then said that they had a cancellation and that I could come in the next day. I did (making the 40+ minute commute to do so), but on doing so they said that though they did have a cancellation but couldn't take me as there wasn't enough time. They explained this as having a new scheduling system, which on its own would be frustrating but understandable. They asked whether I wanted a new appointment and gave me a few dates. I declined and went home. There was a message on my phone confirming an appointment for next month--the same date I expressly said I didn't want. I don't know how the dentists are themselves, but it's not worth getting an appointment to find out. read more

They worked with me so I could get the needed work done and I didn't have to put off my surgery. The staff was great and the dentist was very thorough.
