I recently needed work done on my front teeth. I had been to two other dentists that wanted to do bridges and crowns that my insurance doesn't cover and I couldn't afford. Dr Myles got me in quick and filled both teeth and they look excellent. I don't know why I even bother going to anyone else. I would highly recommend either of them to anyone looking for a good dentist.

Not terribly fond of going to dentists, especially going to a new one! So I decided to call Hastings Dental Clinic, as many years ago I had been to Dr Hastings, father of Dr Brian Hastings. I made an appointment to start my dental catch-up with a filling in a front tooth, as it had a visible spot on it. I saw Dr Brian Hastings, he introduced himself, he was friendly and put me at ease. He then looked at my tooth, that I was concerned about. He examined the tooth, told me he was pretty sure it was a stain, not a cavity. He explained to me that the tooth had been overfilled a bit (which he said was not uncommon), so there was a little ridge that created a spot for bacteria to collect... He said let me try something, he proceeded to buff my tooth, the stain disappeared!!! Amazing a dentist that tells me I don't need a filling, when that is what I made the appointment for! He then told me it was on the house!!! He said consider it a welcome gift! I'm pretty sure I've found my new dentist!!! I made an appointment for my cleaning, to continue my dental catch up. Dr Brian Hastings is an honest man and very likable! Also I received no lectures about waiting so long between dental visits. I am Very Pleased with Hastings Dental Clinic!!!

Beware! I had a horrible experience with Mitchelle-Jerdan funeral home. My father passed away and…read morebefore I could travel to get to Mattoon from out of state, Mitchelle-Jerdan had met with my 91 year old Grandmother and convinced her to sign a cremation contract. I was shocked at the price when I arrived and reviewed the charges. I contacted the other funeral home in town, Schillings, and received an estimate that was $1,200 less for the same services. When I went to Mitchelle-Jerdan's office to pay the bill I presented them with a copy of the estimate and they seemed embarrassed. They had no reasonable explanation for why their charges were more. We ended up settling on a fair price, but had I not done my homework my Grandmother and I would have been overcharged and in my opinion taken advantage of. I expect more from professionals in their line of work. I feel they were taking advantage of a 91 year old lady who was disoriented and under pressure. Thank goodness the people of Mattoon have another competitor in town to consider. I advise people to get an itemized written estimate from both funeral homes so that you can be confident that you are paying a fair price for the valuable services offered. I realize every business needs to make a profit, but $1,200 difference in price is unbelievable.

In my experience with Mitchell Jerdan, they've been an exemplary business in Coles County. Any…read moreservice I've attended here has been detail oriented, compassionate, and a place where I've felt comforted during trying times (family friends and relatives have had services here). When it comes to prices when I pre-planned a while ago - they seemed fair, amenable to my requests, and I felt like I was in good hands - I still do. The previous comments which I read shockingly - it seems as if this lady has a more of a personal vendetta against the funeral home's owners if she knows so much about their personal life. Going to a competitor after a service is completed to see what they would have charged and being told a lower price is as old of a sales trick as I've ever heard. I agree - you should compare pricing when in the position to do so but I know when I've been to other funeral homes in the area (and out of state) - I still believe Mitchell Jerdan has the most beautiful and I know my family will be in goods hands the day I pass. I'm not sure a person whose father passed away and couldn't make it to the funeral and comes on here to complain has very good intentions other than to smear an otherwise very caring and otherwise reputable business in my hometown.
