Where do I begin. Went to then at the end of August 2023 . Was told I needed the deep cleaning with meds , my wisdom teeth out , and two crowns done. They wanted to jam all these visits into 4 visits! FOUR !! They quoted me at like 2500, and I took out a care credit loan (paid in full as of August 27th 2024) At my first visit (8/31/2023 they did the deep cleaning (1,337.00) My second visit 09/05/2024 they did half my mouth the meds for perio (1,318.00) Third visit 09/11/2024 (640.00)other half of my mouth with meds and temporary crowns for the two that needed done . They did this even though I told them I couldn't afford to pay for the permanent crown until into the new year. DID YOU KNOW temporary crowns are only supposed to stay in your mouth for two weeks? I had no idea . 4th visit 09/12/2024 (2,814.00) got 3 of my wisdom teeth removed. They did an xray after , and after I had been home for over an hour calls me and tells me I need to come back in because they found a WIRE in my gums from when the dentist put my temporary crown in on 09/11/2024. The oral surgeon removed it and said I had an infection and put some meds on it. ( that is when I should've started to raise hell but was was coming off of being under and didn't think to say anything ) they then sent me home and I proceeded to have the worst pain of my entire life . Like nobody can describe oral pain. I went back in mutiple times and the dentist would not listen to me . So I went to Altoona Smiles (Dr. Daniel's is amazing and I recommend him so much) He doesn't understand why they'd even put a temporary crown let alone two in my mouth when I said I couldn't afford the pertinent until the new year. So guess what I had to go ahead and pay for those temporary's to be redone by Altoona smiles and then two weeks following get my permanent's in. I am now a patient permanently with Altoona Smiles . I recently got a message from a debt collector for Aspen. Apparently my claims with them all denied and they had never called me to tell me . Altoona did after my first visit and my insurance company fixed the issue and reprocessed the claims . That is literally all they needed to do. Aspen didn't and now after talking with my dental insurance they will do everything in their power to get those claims from 2023 reprocessed . Moral of the story is Aspen Dental just thinks of you as cows going through the slaughter house. They truly do not care about you . Always check reviews, before making an appointment. Hopefully this review saves some people the pain and suffering . I now have major anxiety with dental care , but my dentist understands and knows how to handle with care . I'm giving 2 stars only because most of the employees are nice- they just can't do their job! I had some work done 11/2023 & they confirmed my insurance coverage before that. 3 months later I received a past due notice & found out not only was my claim never submitted, it was denied! Now I'm responsible for an amount that is $hundreds$ more than my quote! I would not have had the work done if I'd known the true cost! Be very careful if you go to Aspen Dental! read more

Worst place ever to get your teeth pulled. I understand that I had a few bones spurs. Went back in and still have bone spurs that he said he got. But didn't. I am in more pain then I was when my teeth got pulled. That Dr. Yang needs to retire or find a new job. Cuz his attitude and how he does everything so fast and doesn't fix the problem is sad. If I could give it a negative rating I would. In four weeks my partial denture has taken almost a year because of this office consistently ruining molds and impressions. After three sets of impressions I still do not have straight teeth. The bite is incorrect and the front teeth are crooked. This office has the audacity to tell me oh they're fine ,they're straight , when I clearly can see they are not. They saved teeth that shouldn't have beeb saved and they should've done scaling on the teeth before they did the dentures because now I have swelling and irritation in my gums under the remaining teeth. I have made three appointments to get scaling and the hygienist doesn't even bother to show up nor does the office call you. I keep getting off work early to go to appointments only to hear, sorry she's not here. Dr. Yuan is condescending and does not listen to anything you say. He will come into the room and he doesn't even acknowledge you. He and the staff will discuss your treatment to each other but not to you even though you're an adult. After the third set of impressions it made me so angry that tears were in my eyes and I was gagging horribly. When I went out to talk to the office manager about them ruining the first two sets of impressions the assistant decided to stand there and keep butting in and talking like I was a four year old saying well, you're all done now. I turned and told her it should've been done the first time And definitely by the second time and now we're on the third time and I still have incorrect teeth. This office may be fine for extractions or cleanings if the hygienist decides to show up but nothing else. I even went to the one on Merle Hay Road who is owned by the same person and they couldn't do any of the work because they said I had to go back to Ankeny and finish up there. Now I have to find another dentist and start the whole process over again. This is beyond bad service. They shouldn't even be open at this point. This is a follow up of my review the other day.I did contact aspen corporate customer service. They said that they would talk to the office manager. My reply was that i will never go there again for my dental health needs. Have not heard back. Please look at dates these reviews are written, Dr.Yuan has been in this office not quite a year, he has been my dentist for over 20 years, he has been taking care of my family all that time, he's incredibly knowledgeable, is very informative, and has a great chairside manner. The office staff is very friendly and informative, I have some unique dental issues and Dr.Yuan and his staff, worked to find the best treatment plan to address my issues. Dental insurance coverage these days is even more difficult to navigate than medical coverage and the staff does a good job making sure you are informed and explaining what is covered and what isn't. Absolutely unprofessional, dishonest, and incompetent front office. The hygienist however, was very good, pleasant, and cheerful. It is my sincere hope she has left for a good clinic. I had a long conversation with the receptionist and was assured that they had pre-cleared all of the services. I later found out from my insurance company they had not. I provided written documentation what services were reimbursed and what were not, I also told them do not give me gingival irrigate, or fluoride. They did not provide these services, but attempted to bill for them anyway. They have cost me 5 hours of time dealing with their incompetence and working things out with the insurance company. I will never do business with them again, and have filed a fraud complaint with my insurance company and a BBB complaint against them as well. I can't believe I didn't check Yelp before I went there. Worst experience I've ever had at a dentist, and I've been to over a dozen in my lifetime. Expect to wait 30 minutes to an hour, so you might want to call ahead and see how far they are behind. Once I finally got in, they gave me x-rays, even though I had some 6 months prior at my previous dentist which they could have gotten (to keep costs down). After the x-rays, the receptionist informed me that my appointment was too late and that I wouldn't get a cleaning. I would have to come back. For a working person with a small child, that doesn't work well. They could have told me that beforehand. So they brought me back to the dentist chair, where I waited for another 10 minutes. All this place is after is a quick buck, had work done here and they are butchers. It was supposed to be for a verterans day of care but I was charged and over charged, I ended up needing oral surgery to repair the damage they did extracting my teeth. RUN FROM THIS PLACE!!! This was the best experience that I have had with a dentist office. The staff was very helpful and friendly. I read the reviews before I got there and I gave them the benefit of the doubt. The staff at Aspen Dental exceeded my expectations ten fold. I would definitly recommend tjis place to anybody that needs dental work on a budget. They were very understanding because I had to bring my 5 year old child with me. They made her experience enjoyful for the time I had to spend there. I will not go back to an Aspen Dental ever again. If you choose to do so I WOULD NOT let Dr. Nivedita Shaene work on your teeth!!! I've used several of their locations because of flexibility of scheduling but no more after the last experience. She had to numb a tooth that she was trying to repair a cavity on 3 times (with several different shots each time), the 3rd time I could feel the needle hit and scrape around on my jaw bone. Basically gave up after drilling for several minutes several different times and told her assistant (NOT ME) that she couldn't fix it and it would need to be pulled and puts a temporary filling in it. Leaves the room and comes back with a prescription for antibiotics and Tylenol 3 and walks off. Doesn't say anything about how or when or why I should take either of the drugs or even which tooth it is that she's wanting to pull and why she couldn't fix it. I get to the pay-out counter and had to ask the secretary which tooth they are wanting to pull and why it couldn't be fixed and what were my instructions and reason for the antibiotics were. That night and the next day I had some of the worst dental pain I've ever had even WITH taking IBP AND T3. When the numbing subsided I quickly realized it mostly wasn't even from the actual tooth itself but from all the stabbing, poking, and gouging with the needle that she'd done trying to GET the tooth numb. Furthermore, when the numbing wore off I realized that my bite was severely off in the back of my mouth where the fillings (both the temporary AND the permanent) she had just put in were because they were left extremely high so they hit before any other tooth in my mouth did. (I couldn't feel this in the chair because my entire face was so numb by the time she'd finished murdering my gums with Litocane). I decided to get a second opinion before letting them pull it and found a different dentist that owned his own private practice and got in to see him a few days later. He numbed it twice (with just a couple shots each time) and I couldn't feel ANYTHING while he began drilling out the temporary filling. He determined that luckily she had not drilled into the pulp of the tooth. He cleaned the cavity out and put a pulp cap in and then filled the tooth and was done. Later after the numbing wore off there was no pain at all without taking any drugs and my bite was perfect. That Doctor Nivedita Shaene was going to pull a tooth that didn't need to be pulled. It was a hard lesson learned but I will let all my teeth ROT before I go back to Aspen dental ever again. That was the worst dental experience I've ever had in 34 years. I'm absolutely appalled that not only did they let that woman graduate dental school but that Aspen continues to let her work for them! read more

Run as far as possible!!! After seeking a second quote from another dentist, I'd say between my husband and I we saved around $800. Not only is this place overpriced- I'm not sure they're running an honest business. I was told that I had several cavities (between teeth so they couldn't show me) and that my husband needed a 'deep cleaning' (hundreds of dollars not covered by insurance)- another dentist could not find any of these issues, even after we described what Aspen had told us. I would hate to have fillings in my mouth for something that wasn't even there... Long story short... Stay away!!! We also had a similar experience with the Aspen south of town a few years back. Now I'm wishing I'd questioned the large sum of $ I'd given them at that point as well. read more

Do not go here! Worst dentist experience I've ever had. I just became a new client and had to wait two weeks to get in for a sore tooth. Finally my appointment day came and I went in, filled out several pages of paperwork, then sat in the waiting room for over an hour before I was told they didn't have time to see me and would have to reschedule to the following week. The other three people sitting in the waiting room with me were also told they had to reschedule. I called a different dentist and they got me in the very next day and were very polite and empathetic, unlike the rude aspen staff. I should have listened to all the poor reviews and complaints on multiple websites, along with two co-workers who said avoid this place. Do yourself a favor and go elsewhere. Find dentist with more personality behind dumpster. Took son in for "emergency" after 2 hours got into chair. Hygenist came in and poked around, took xrays etc... Dentist came in said absolutely nothing ... and walked out. Did nothing. Hygenist then came in and said that they couldn't do anything today and to stop at the desk. You walk out and sit down with a person to go over what needs to be done and how you are going to pay for it. Told we could come back next week for root canal ... no pain meds no antibiotics.... no emergency response. Called another dentist in Altoona on way home, saw him right away ... looked at the issue, made apt next day to do the RC... cost was $300 cheaper ... also wrote a small script for pain to get him thru the nite. And good luck getting your records to transfer they won't do it! Frustrating all the way around I would pay more for a real experience any day. 0 star experience. Scheduled a regular cleaning and spent 30 minutes getting a "screening" before finding out they don't do cleanings for new patients on the first visit. Had to schedule a second visit to get my teeth cleaned. They performed a $71 cancer screening without asking or informing me that this was not covered by insurance (I had previously told the hygienist I only wanted services covered by insurance). I had no issues signing up for a time to have my appointment. Went in and the staff was pleasant and explained what they were looking for and explained the options I had in regards to "extras" but I never felt like they pushed any of the extras on me. They also went over expenses with me prior to the procedure which I thought was beneficial. read more

The dentist at the Ankeny, IA location is awful. The staff, assistants, and manager are very helpful and friendly however the dentist is rude, snide, and extremely rough. I have been going to this location for a year or so and have had good and bad visits but with the addition of the new Dentist, I will not be returning. read more
