Bill Gehan of Campion & Company is amazing at what he does. If you are looking to purchase ( or…read morelist) your property I would highly recommend that you speak to Bill to get his opinion, and hear about his plans to find you a home that you love, or to sell your property smoothly and professionally. Initially I contacted Bill about a property that he had listed and I thought it was under agreement...but then saw another company advertising it as still available. Bill answered right away about the listing and was apologetic that it was no longer available. He was so kind and helpful when I contacted him that I decided to look at property with him. What a smart decision! Bill knows the neighborhoods of Boston, and can pick up on subtle things about a property that you may not be aware of when looking. Buying a home is important, and having an expert like Bill is essential. He also seems to know ( by name!) 50 percent of the people that he passes by on the street in Back Bay. I have some health issues that have complicated our housing search, and not once did Bill make me feel like a burden. In fact, he made sure to ask the right questions to ensure that I would wind up in a situation that I could stay long term. If you're looking for old fashioned (outstanding) service, integrity and a real estate professional that will be an advocate for you, I implore you to contact Bill. He is not only excellent at what he does, he also makes the process fun, and is a terrific communicator.

We engaged Tracy Campion for the purchase of a condominium in the Back Bay. Our initial negotiation…read morefor the property was conducted over the telephone with her. She did not share her cell phone number with us at any time. Once our offer to purchase was accepted, she made a cameo appearance at a brief revisit to the unit. That was the only time that we met with her. Thereafter, despite my specifically asking for her, she was never available as we moved through the process of inspection etc through to the closing. Any additional communication with her office was through one of her employees. Olivia was pleasant and helpful. Mary was frankly rude to my wife just prior to the closing. The situation became so ridiculous, with less than optimal response from our broker, that I communicated with the selling broker as the transaction moved to conclusion. He was always readily available and took it upon himself to assist as needed. The purchase was completed recently and we have not had any communication from Campion and Company at the time of or following the closing.

I am a super busy running my business and having them in my corner has been a huge help. Owning and managing rental properties is often like another part-time job, but since I hired Penrose everything has been on autopilot. I used them for a few years to find tenants for my properties with great success, however, when I started to use them for purchases and management that's when they really stood out from the pack. While I've dabbled in real estate and know the basics I've grown so much as an investor since hiring them. They walked me through the numbers of several prospective properties. When I decided on one they walked me through the sale. Next they offered me several budget friendly recommendations on how to maximize my rental income. When the repairs were done, they found a another great tenant and have dealt with any of the annoying things that come with being a landlord. There are plenty of good realtors out there, but if you're looking to take your real estate investments to the next level give them a call.

While sitting in their office along with my real estate agent (who isn't affiliated with Ford), and…read morespeaking with one of their agents, I signed a an application and gave them a deposit for an apartment they were listing (effectively taking it off the market). I was told by one of their agents, that there was absolutely nothing wrong with my application and that the apartment was mine. Approximately three days later I found out through my realtor that somehow Ford had leased the apartment to someone else after I had already put down money and took the place off the market. Confused, I spoke with a Ford agent, who told me that someone had put down a deposit at the exact time as me. I immediately knew this was a complete lie, as I was sitting in their office alone, when I submitted my check and application. When confronted with this fact, the agent simply shrugged, and then told me well they offered to move in 15 days earlier. I was never informed this was an option, so I immediately countered with, well I can do that as well. They replied with, "no, we already signed the lease." I then found out that the new tenant was their client, hence they got full commission. With me, since I used another realtor, they would have had to split the commission with my agent. This situation left a bad taste in my mouth, as I have never experienced such shady business for a company that pretends to be "high end." As a working professional who has been renting in the Boston area for nearly a decade, I was appalled.

So Ford Realty hooked us up with a last-minute place, alright -- it worked out ok-ish though we've had real problems with the maintenance on our place and we aren't staying a second year so.... I have a problem with the fact that our realtor didn't shoot straight with us and I think took advantage of our ignorance of local custom and laws. Told us the place was great, landlord attentive (spoiler alert: Was. Not.) And when we asked about parking, "Sure! There's parking a-plenty, all the on-street parking* one might want!" Except, Parking* in Brookline = only during the day; parking is illegal at night meaning if you don't have a driveway you have to rent space in a private lot for ~$200/mo. The decent thing to do would not have been to just flat gull us on that one fine point. We would have looked elsewhere if we knew how coo-coo bird-brain awful the parking situation in Brookline is. You're pretty much stuck with a realtor if you want to get anything nailed down for rentals in Boston, and these guys I guess seem to be in charge of the crummier places in Brookline. I'm sure there are probably worse out there. But be warned: They work for shady people, and they themselves aren't high in the running for most-decent-folks-of-the-year.
