My boyfriend and I worked with Eddie from Maven and it was all around a great experience. We were trying to find a place to rent during the pandemic (yikes), which made viewing apartments a little harder because we were dependent on tenants taking "video walkthrough" tours of the units. We stumbled upon a place on Craigslist and could tell it was a steal right away, but no video. We called Eddie probably 6 or 7 times between Wednesday, when we first found the apartment listing, and Saturday, when we decided to move forward with an application without even having seen the video of the apartment. Each time, he answered all our questions and gave us all the information we needed to make an informed decision. The ONLY way this worked is because Eddie has been renting this particular unit, and working with this particular landlord, for many years. He could give us a very detailed explanation of the floorplan, the rooms, windows, bathtub, everything. He was really patient with us when we had a million questions (which is to be expected when all you have to go on is outdated pictures and a verbal explanation of the unit). Once we got into the paperwork part of things, Eddie was really thorough (again) with answering all of our questions about the lease, signing, transferring money (remember, pandemic = no dropping off a check easily), etc. Overall -- we'd recommend working with Eddie to find a place. His experience and relationship with the landlords and tenants really gave us an edge in this pretty crazy rental market. We totally lucked out and would gladly work with Eddie again if we ever move! read more

The following review should not reflect on Maven Realty as an entity, just to one of its current agents: I have had the opportunity to meet Mr. Tal Rimoni and experience his behavior toward and around women in social settings, and would therefore NOT be comfortable doing business with him (and as a business owner myself, I would not want my business name and reputation to be tied to his) that would require the possibility of leaving my girlfriend/wife or female friend alone with him. While hosting a large group for social outings, he behaved despicably at a table full of women (one of whom was visiting the group for the first time). He was miffed that the ladies from his group had organized an all-girls activity. As a response, he suggested organizing a trip to a strip club. He then began to discuss his and his male friends' past visits to strip clubs. This resulted in one of the women becoming visibly upset, getting up from the table and leaving early. On another occasion, he acted surprised at the response he received from another table full of women after he unexpectedly asked them to share their thoughts on the Fleshlight (an adult, masturbation toy for males) with him. During another conversation with him alone, he lamented having organized a pool party a previous summer where none of the women would take off their towels and swim so he could have the opportunity to ogle them. It's obvious he lacks the self-awareness and professionalism required to be a successful and moral real estate professional. His chauvinism disqualifies him, in my view, from working closely with female colleagues or dealing with female clients in an untoward manner. Caveat Emptor! Full Disclosure: The facts mentioned in this post can be independently verified by various people who were present at the time his statements were made except for the pool conversation which took place among Mr. Rimoni and I. They are posted as a response to nasty and false allegations made by Mr. Rimoni about my character and sexual orientation on a public forum. The difference is I am combating his lies with the Truth. Not my truth, but the Truth. P.S. Imagine being moralized by this clown. He erroneously thought that he was speaking to a peer or someone who shared his chauvinistic views. Me: "Where is your office?" Maven: "Davis Square." Me: "Oh, that's kind of far. Can I just meet you at the apartment? Maybe after work tonight at 5:30 pm?" Maven: "Let me see if anyone is available to meet you there. Hold on." Five minutes later. Maven: "Sorry about that. Looks like no one is available to meet you there tonight." Me: "Ok, I'll call back tomorrow and let you know when I'm free to see it. Thanks." Next day. Me: "Hi, I'm calling again about the place on Central. I'm free during lunch today to take a quick look at it." Maven: "Ok, can you meet us at our office first?" Me: "I just don't have time to do that. I wanted to sneak off quickly during lunch to look at the place." Maven: "Let me call you back in a few. I need to check the policy." Two hours later. Maven: "Hi. I'm sorry but we can't show you the property unless you come to our office first." Me: "What? Why?" Maven: "It's our policy." Me: "Right, but what's the reasoning behind the policy? Is it that you don't want me to know the exact location of the property? I'm happy to meet you at a coffee shop in Central instead." Maven: "It's just our policy." Me: "I don't get it. You want me to take the T all the way to Davis, walk to your office, come in, meet with someone, and then walk to his or her car, and drive all the way back to Central to look at a place that I don't even know if I'm going to like?" Jeff at Maven was AMAZING. I was really anxious about renting in Boston because I know how cut-throat and competitive it can be to find a great place at a great price. He was really calm and understanding and found me an awesome place for a steal and a half. Parking, heat and hot water including for pretty much the same price as I pay now??? Yes, please! Even though it was a great deal, I was having a hard time seeing past the current tenant's umm...less than tidy living habits. I never got the feeling that he was trying to "sell' me on the apartment, but he was really good at pointing out all the pros that the apartment offer. I was still having some hesitation because it was the first apartment I had viewed on my hunt. Every other agent I've worked with has been very pushy and high-pressure but he was very patient with me and let me sleep on it. Not to mention, he was happy to show it to me...three different times. He took care of all of the paperwork for me. He even drove me all the way over to Arlington for my lease signing and put me at ease about everything. While we waited for some final paperwork he took time to help me brainstorm furniture arrangements, talk about above and beyond!!! A great weapon to have in the often stressful Boston rental market. Ok, so my experience with Maven was fantastic when I first rented with them. However, boy did they screw me. I asked if the Realtor Fee could be post dated for 2-Weeks as come on, paying first last and security can get a bit pricey when renting. The Realtor Jeff totally agreed and said that was definitely possible. Funny, two days later the check was cashed. I got a fee charge to my bank account because my money of course wasn't being deposited until the following day (Pay Day). I called him to ask him what happened and he told me, "Oh, the landlord must have cashed it" Okay what do you think I'm stupid? The check was written to Maven Realty. The landlord obviously didn't cash the check. Clearly he just wanted to get paid for the rental. On top of this, clearly once you rent from them they put you in the "I don't give a flying fuck" about you pile of their paper work. I wanted to go back into the apartment just to take some measurements and he was anything but helpful. THEN- he calls me about three weeks before my move-in date saying, "Hi this is Jeff from Maven, are you still interested in renting with Maven?" I laughed, "Hi fuck head, I already rented from you and you bounced my check remember?" WHAT AN IDIOT! On top of this, when I went to go pick up my keys for my place, I walk in and this guy looks at me and says, "Umm... can I help you?" I smiled and said "Hello! I'm here to pick up my keys" and with a look of disgust he says, "Who is your realtor and who gave you permission to get them" Whoa, relax buddy I am renting and Jeff is my realtor. He had to call Jeff verify I was coming and then get me my keys. He makes me wait for 10 Minutes and goes to get the key. Hands it to me and walks away. "Gee, thanks buddy" WORST. CUSTOMER. SERVICE. I've just started my apartment search, and as sad as I am to be missing out on what look like amazing properties, I cannot bring myself to call these people again. I first started talking to Eddie. Called him once, made an appointment for the next morning, he called early the next morning to cancel and reschedule that appointment. Cool, that's fine, things happen and I'm totally ok with that. I show up the following day for the rescheduled meeting we'd made ... and he's not even in the office. His officemates call him, apparently we'd miscommunicated and he'd told me that he would call me when he had something (that's not what he said, my boyfriend was there when he had called and boyfriend confirmed that we had rescheduled for the following day). Ok, whatever again. They have really nice properties and I want to see them. Eddie said he would call me when he had a few places he thought I'd like. At that point, I was a little exasperated with this guy. I called a few days later (no call from Eddie), very eager to see a place, and spoke with Aaron. He informed me that he was showing that property that very afternoon, at 1pm, and expected it to be rented. If it wasn't, he'd give me a call. I check Craigslist at 1230, and the APARTMENT IS UP ON CRAIGSLIST. You're showing it in half an hour, expect it to be rented, and ARE STILL REPOSTING IT?! I then wait, hoping he'll call me and tell me that no, they didn't take it, why don't I come by and see it? Two days later and still no phone call. I make one last-ditch attempt to connect with these guys. I call the office and say, Hi, I've been talking to Eddie and Aaron, but I don't like the ways things have been going with them. I'm still really interested in your properties. Is there someone else I can talk to? The guy on the phone tells me no! Once I've established a relationship with an agent there, that's it, they don't share clients. That would be totally understandable except I DON'T WANT TO DEAL WITH MY ORIGINAL AGENT. I called specifically to ask for another agent, and you're going to tell me I can't do that? Forget these people. It might make my search a little longer and a little harder, but I will not go through Maven Realty for my apartment. read more

I am surprised by all these negative reviews. I used Maven to rent my condo out, and I found them to be responsive and reliable. I had walked by their office numerous times, but did a Yelp search and decided to use them based on the reviews. I called and asked for Aaron based on the positive feedback about him. I thought he was great - he came over, took some pictures, toured the place, asked questions, and was overall very helpful in helping us set the rental price and posting the place online for us. We had never rented our place out before, so we were grateful for the guidance. Anytime an agent wanted to bring people over, they would always call us first to set up a time. There were a few no-shows, which was kind of annoying, but also just part of the game. We ended up finding awesome tenants thanks to Eddie, who handled all the rental paperwork, background checks, and was just an all around helpful, positive, efficient guy. I recommend them. read more

My roommates and I have recently been searching for apartments in the Cambridge/Somerville area. We've worked with a few different real estate agents and they all showed us places they wanted to sell, not the type of places we asked to see. Thank god we came across Jeff from Maven reality. He listen to what we wanted and showed us 3 places that we all thought were great. We should be signing on a place soon. A good service. Manish helped me find a good apartment, went over the lease with me, and calmed my last-minute anxieties about the place by taking me over for a look at it. The place isn't perfect, but it's good enough given my budget and needs, and I have Maven Realty's efforts to thank for it (not to mention Craig's List). Not giving them a higher rating than three stars because they tend to be rather poor in responding to inquiries. For example, I didn't find out, despite my calls, when the term of the lease began until I stepped into the Maven office to sign the lease agreement. For this reason I delayed giving 30 days notice at my old place and ended up owing over a hundred dollars extra in rent. Granted, this was late July/early August, a busy time for them, but how long would take to shoot me a one-line email? Also, as some of the other reviews mentioned, Maven doesn't keep square footage figures on the apartments. This seems like an easy, standard figure to have on record, and I found its absence an annoyance and somewhat suspicious. read more

Although we didn't rent from him (we just found a better apartment somewhere else), he was very professional and pleasant. Furthermore, he stayed in touch after our showings, even though they didn't work out, and made a real effort to keep us in mind well after the fact. I can't speak to the whole company but if you're looking for something in Somerville it's worth giving Asi a call to see what he has. Sarah our agent was an exceptionally helpful source - and pulled no stops with helping us find exactly what we wanted (and we saw ALOT of properties!). One thing that drew me to Maven Realty was their clean cut no-nonsense ads on craig's list. They also have an incredible database of available properties that are accessible through the web. The Realtor finds out your needs and tastes before sending you a list of additional properties to view online - no time is wasted! Once we had decided on our apartment, the rest was simple! Two years ago we had the worst time listing a 4 person unit on Craigslist and I spent a ton of time showing it, to no avail. Maven rented it out and saved us. Last year they came through again for a different unit. And this year, they gave us advice on pricing the place and rented the unit in one day! I called Maven on a Sunday evening after having seen a few promising postings on their website (and yes, I had noticed their many ads on CraigsList). I spoke with Claudia about the specific apartments I was interested in, as well as what I was looking for, so she could see if there was anything else that would fit my needs, and set up an appointment for after work on Tuesday. I signed a lease on that Tuesday: Claudia had found an apartment that had everything I was looking for (laundry in a non-sketchy basement, dishwasher, decent amount of living space) within the price range I had given her - I've never actually had a Realtor pull through like this before! She even gave me a ride home, as it was raining and we ended up sorting out paperwork issues (my roommate was out of the country) until almost 10 PM. Peter at Maven Realty made the Boston job hunt bearable. After months of searching hole in the wall apartments and getting the cold shoulder from other realtors, Peter was a gem in the rough. Me and my roommate visited Maven Realty and Peter after work on a weekday to view some apartments. After finding a great apartment in Somerville, Peter was quick and efficient and got us our apartment that night! Peter put his night on hold to sit with us and answer questions. We really appreciated all the time he took to work with us and make sure that we were happy! Peter was patient and professional and you can tell that he was not just out to make another buck. Disclaimer: I didn't find an apartment through Maven. But I was thoroughly impressed by my experience with Peter (aka "Moose) that I had to stop in and give him some recognition. To put it in perspective; I wouldn't even give 4 stars to the guy I did sign a lease with. My girlfriend and I couldn't get anybody at Maven to pick up the phone for weeks. So yes, a lot of the reviews are accurate. When Peter finally got a hold of us he was very helpful and worked diligently to help out two very picky clients. This included attempting to negotiate with a nutcase landlord who thought the Little Rascals clubhouse he had built out of mismatched fixtures and hardware was worth $1400. For the record: I was not buying their whole policy on going to their office first and then being driven to places. But after going through it he showed us a handful of places in our price range and even some places that were brand new to the market and hadn't been listed yet. My initial call to Maven didn't go anywhere. The person I talked to took my information, but never called me back. So I tried some other realtors, and started to get desperate. I called back later and made an appointment to see a few places. I ended up seeing about 20 places with other realtors, but Maven were the only ones that actually listened to me and didn't waste my time with places I wasn't interested in. Both of places that I saw with them were good, and I ended up chosing one of them. Two months later, everything is great. When I tell people how much I'm playing for our place, they are always surprised that it's such a good deal. It's got plenty of space and it's a great location. I didn't rate them 4 stars because of that initial call, and because they accidentally told me the rent was slightly lower than it actually was--though still within my price range. Had an appointment with Sean this past Saturday evening. He was great. Context: My girlfriend and I are moving to back to the area after a few years away, and needed to nail down an apartment fast. The apartment market is really tight, so we had a series of meeting set up from 9am then going throughout the day. By the time of our appointment with Sean at 4:30 we were nearly demoralized. We'd seen apartments I wouldn't ask my enemies to visit, led by realtors who ranged from cool-but-without-inventory to inept-and-without-inventory. Sean was awesome. He knew the apartments we were seeing like the back of his hand - we'd ask him questions about properties, landlords, and neighborhoods and he'd rattle off good info immediately. These same questions had sent the other realtors into states of confusion or catatonia, so Sean's preparedness was a welcome change. Furthermore, his demeanor was very direct and no-nonsense, but no-pressure at the same time. He gave us an hour to mull our choices over, and then came back to the office from his house after 7pm when we decided to go with one of the apartments he showed. He went above and beyond, and we were/are very grateful. read more

Worst customer service ever. I was rudely asked to sign a paperwork without proper explanation. My reaction was to ask for more information about the paperwork that was put in front of me. I was met with an aggressive reaction to which I decided to decline to sign. The paperwork was apparently a policy fee disclosure required by the state of Massachusetts. I called the agency and requested to talk to a manager. The manager didn't like that I found the situation I was put in extremely uncomfortable and he even went on to insinuate that my story isn't true. 1- disclose the paperwork to be signed before you show a prospective tenant an apartment 2- explain nicely and respectfully what it is about and maybe you will get a signature and a tenant out of the apt showing read more

So, ever taken a day off work to sit at home, alone, in your underwear to prepare and pack for an upcoming move? Well, I did. Everything was going swimmingly until I hear the sound of voices coming from my own apartment. The air conditioner was on so it was a little difficult to make out what was going on, but I quickly sprang up and slammed my bedroom door in the face of some stranger while screaming obscenities at him. Really? You just fucking walk in someone's apartment? Oh. After screaming for what seemed to be 5 minutes, telling him to get the fuck out, and frantically trying to find pants, he was still determined to be in my apartment. Are you fucking kidding me? You need to LEAVE. NOW. He said he "didn't know". Uhm didn't know what exactly? The LAW? Yeah, kind of illegal to just fucking burst into someone's apartment. This was my first interaction with this company. My landlord told me they would be CALLING me to set up an appointment to come and look at the apartment. She never gave them permission to invade my privacy. And from the reads of these reviews, this isn't the first time this company has done this. It really makes you think. I mean, if I hadn't taken that day off and been home, they really would have just came in my home, did whatever they wanted to do and I would have been wondering how the fuck pictures of my shit got up on craigslist. I bet rental agencies do this shit all the time. They just got caught this one. Unbelievable & unbelievably illegal. I am getting in touch with the owner tomorrow because this is completely unacceptable. **OK, so this is an edit.** I bumped them up to 2 stars based on this.* The rental agent that I found in my apartment is named Vlad. I know this because he called me today after reading this review to apologize and ask that I specifically mention his name so his coworkers don't suffer from this incident. I found him to be sincere and obviously much easier to deal with when feeling that my privacy wasn't imposed upon. I do feel that this could have perhaps been some sort of mix up or mistake as other units in my building and the building next door are also for rent. Even so, I feel like this should have never happened. But it did. He apologized and even told me that there was a note in my file to make sure someone gets in touch with me prior to showing my apartment. Sounds like an effort in good faith so we'll see. I'm out of here Labor Day weekend... can't wait to not have to deal with landlords and rental agencies anymore. :) ****Back down to one star since I found out they did the same shit to my downstairs neighbor who was also moving! After we had a showing of a unit from a rep at Maven, we decided finding a new apartment was hopeless and abandoned our search. Yes, it was that bad. After signing a statement that we understood their fee policy (before we were even shown a place????) we were taken to a place that I was told was 5 minutes walking distance to the T, but we had to drive, because it was more of a 15-20 minute walk. We drove up to a house that looked like something out of a horror movie and we were scared to walk on the porch. We ventured inside and it was even scarier than the outside. dirty. We were ready to go, and the realtor asked, do you want to go upstairs? with the key in lock. We didnt want to be rude, so we saw an identical unit on another floor. The realtor knocked on the door.. No answer. We went inside. There were 2 cats that he said we need to make sure dont get out. We walked through the house and knocked on a closed bedroom door with no answer. We opened the bedroom door and someone was in there. getting dressed. The tenant had no idea that the place was being shown! We left, and the realtor let the cat out of the house, so we had to retrieve it. I told the realtor when we were done that honestly, this was not the kind of place we were looking for. We were looking for a clean, nice place and this was not even close. He said "I totally agree" THANKS FOR WASTING OUR TIME! read more

Jeff at Maven Realty really made the entire rental process effortless! I was only in town for 2 days - relocating to the area from a different state. I had a few appointments with realtors - but their inventory just wasnt what I was looking for... So, I contacted Maven Realty via a craigslist add at 6pm and got connected with Jeff for a 9am appointment the next day. This guy has a lot of energy - and I am glad it was all focused on finding me a great place fast! He showed me 3 apartments - all of which I would've been comfortable living in. I signed the papers that afternoon for a great one bedroom, and couldn't be happier. Its a gorgeous place and the landlord is very nice (oh did i mention he scheduled an appointment so I could meet her after I signed my lease?!) He was slightly late to our appointment--no big deal and I didn't mind--but he immediately offered to take $50 off the broker fee (which I later realized came directly from his pocket). I wasn't looking for high-rent places, but Jeff spent a lot of time with me to figure out the best match. I was able to see apartments the same day with another place about 3 days later. Today he just cancelled on our rescheduled appointment. Found ads on Craigslist the realtor got in touch saying one of the ones was having and open house hat night. We went a viewed the place and decided to put in an application. My soon to be room mate needed a new application waited 20 minutes for a new one. We never heard back if our application was accepted or not. Eek! Me thinks not is right! TERRIBLE customer service. Read any of the other reviews that are 1 star and thats pretty much what happens when you try to contact these people. Just to make sure, I tried contacting two different agents and had the same experience with both. If I could give these people zero stars I would. Also, I'm not convinced any of these reviews are real (besides the 1 and 2 star ones!). We didn't end up finding a property with Maven simply because they didn't have a property listed that we really liked (and don't seem in general to have as many properties as some other agencies). But we worked with Andre who was very down-to-earth and seemed to understand what we were looking for and no doubt had his eyes peeled. I'd definitely call Andre again next time I'm apartment-hunting. On one of our rides, though, Manesh, his boss, tagged along. Which was a tad annoying. Whereas viewing properties with Andre was fun, with Manesh it was a constant exercise to sort through the salesly bullsh*t. It would've been nicer if he could have toned it down a notch. read more

I can't speak for any other agents at Maven, but Jeff was great. I initially called Maven in response to an ad posted on Craigslist and was connected with Jeff. While that property was rented before I was able to view it, I continued to watch Maven's site for listings. Since I had a good idea of what I wanted this was easier for me than letting Jeff show me listings he thought I might be interested in. Jeff was always able to provide useful additional information about properties beyond what was given on Maven's website, and when what looked like a great apartment came up I made an appointment with Jeff to view it the next day during lunch. Another agent had the keys so we had to wait to look at the apartment, and once we did get the keys they didn't work. Jeff went well out of his way to acquire keys to the apartment while I was there, which eventually took a visit to the property owner's office. Once we got in I was glad that Jeff had put in the effort to get the keys; I ended up renting the apartment immediately. The paperwork went smoothly and Jeff has been extremely helpful every step of the way. Highly recommended. read more
