We stopped by the Asian Mart to pick up a couple of sundries: Jin Ramens- one regular and one spicy one, a can of luncheon loaf, plus a couple of shrimp chips: regular, cucumber and spicy-flavor. The store was organized and there's a huge variety of inventory, but the supply isn't consistent; sometimes some of the brands the store usually carries are out of stock or no longer there. The employees are normally pretty indifferent, sometimes they're almost alright and occasionally, they're actually engaging and friendly.Overall, our visit was brief but productive, and we mostly got what we came for. read more

Time for an update. Came in looking for some Asian melons (dic gua and mo gua) and found something similar that I have not cooked up yet. Also threw it some bok choy and Chinese broccoli that will make a nice tofu stir fry. The store is much more organized now. Clean and well laid out. Cashiers are very nice. Prices seem maybe higher than stores in CA but maybe because there is less competition in Reno. They have a rewards points program so you can get discounts on future purchases. read more

Not sure what all the negative reviews are about with this market. My Wife who is Chinese (I am not) and I have been shopping here since we move to Reno in 2018 and have always liked the store. Selection is great, the prices are decent and the staff is always helpful and freindly. It has come under new management the last year or so and the selection has increased and the new owner has evidently put a lot of money into the store to improve it-AND IT SHOWS-store looks much better. Boil boy has this place changed!!, For the better! Their new hours are from 9 AM to 9 PM and it's much larger with much much much more options than before! I used to come in here, and it was a little bit dark and kind of funky smelling with not a lot of stuff that I needed... So I would shop at multiple places. With the new ownership, I was literally able to get every single thing I needed and way more! They even have some Americanized items like Ben & Jerry's ice cream and sour cream, half-and-half, and things like that... They have definitely changed this a bit to accommodate both Asian and American markets! I got seven bags of groceries and walked out of there on 200! That is absolutely a steel with all of the items I got!! If you haven't been in here, a while, definitely check it out now!!! The service was outstanding. I usually go to yims but I find during their construction period they are lacking some products that I usually get there. I've been to Asian Mart a couple times over the years but I was not impressed with their variety or store. I unfortunately have purchased a couple of things that were expired. Today though I might be converted. They were well stocked and the store was clean. The isles were labeled and well stocked. Unfortunately I still bought something that was expired, but I should have checked. They had a variety of different Asian products that honestly I've not found anywhere else. They now sell tchotchkes like funko pops and different anime figurines. I'm not saying I won't stop going to Yims because they do sell products I couldn't find here but I might check Asian Mart first. read more

There were also snacks for us. A small selection of fresh vegetable was available. Prices were high, for example we buy hot peanuts in a 4 oz bag for $1.50 at the real 168 in San Gabriel. I come here very often because of the wide variety of veggies, meat, and snacks they carry. Ever since they changed owners, it has been a lot more organized and clean too. When entering, the food items are on the left and home goods on the right. The selection of veggies appear fresh most of the time. They have fresh meats in the far back, but I have not tried that service. This is a great place to buy snacks, however, I have noticed that they overprice the snacks by a lot compared to some other places. I found a couple of snacks that are $8.99 elsewhere, but they sell it for $13.99. Additionally, sometimes the tagged prices are not the same as the prices at checkout. If you do not pay attention, you might be getting ripped off certain things. Definitely, check the prices of things if you care about saving a couple dollars. The home items are what you would expect to find at an Asian marketplace. I bough glass bowls from them and they are amazing! I came back and bought more. My family and I stop by every so often when we are running out of Asian snacks. Almost every time we come in, the store looks a little different, stocked with new items. We run into Jeremiah, the owner, every time. He is so excited about bringing new items to his store. His positive and cheery disposition is always nice to see. This last visit he mentioned how he has 50+ new products he wants to put out but is running out of space to display it hehe. We noticed that he now even carries frozen items that L&L serves like the Hawaiian brand poi and lau lau. The store even carries Hawaiian brand sea salt! We were amazed! The store has a little touch of Hawaii with the Hawaiian music station playing too. Excited to return and see what other new items we come across. read more

I haven't been here in awhile and decided to give it another chance. The first time was not impressive. Overpriced and if you are looking for fresh produce, this is not the place. The store was very dark walking in which already made me not want to be there. I continued to walk around looking for tofu and fresh produce. I found the tofu but found it difficult for me to pay $2.99 when it should be $1.79. Must items I looked at had the same markup so unless I really needed it, I would pass. There are very few Asian markets in the area so one just has to put up with it. I will continue to seek out other Asian markets. read more

Largest, most comprehensive Asian grocery store in the Reno area. Prices are fair, selection extensive and they are making great strides in improving their store. While Yim's has always been my go to here in town, AM has really impressed me as of late. Until we get a 99 Ranch (one can dream), this is a perfectly adequate substitute. read more

This place has it all and for an AMAZING price point - periodt. This market totally is CEO! G.O.A.T.! They have EVERYTHING I need check the pic! We already ate half of the Rice Cracker-Nori and Shrimp Chips (oh return to Hawai'i). Everything you need and the meat and seafood gives a plethora of options. Bangin' ! After seeing some updated reviews showing new ownership, I decided to drag my husband here so I could check it out in comparison to other asian markets in town. I was fairly surprised to find the interior still fairly dark and the right side of the store felt pretty empty which makes it not as inviting, not to mention not much of a rice selection. I continued browsing and made my way over to the freezer and fridge section there. I was pleasantly surprised by all the variety that I don't seem to find (or see) at some of the other stores that I visited. It's also labelled by cuisine, so you have filipino, chinese, thai etc. which I found convenient. Also the butcher block was pretty cool! It looked really clean but there was no one there so it does make you wonder how long the fish and meat has been unthawed. If I had more energy, I would try my hand at some whole duck preparations! The produce section was okay, and didn't make me feel any sort of way. I felt the same way about the dry goods and non perishable stuff. Also felt like a lot of stock was missing, or not as big of a variety as other asian markets. Overall I would go back, especially if they restock. I did find some cool things like skewered whole calamari that I can't wait to grill this summer and some banana leaves so I can maybe make some Kalua pork at home! I think their strong suits are the freezer selection, which feels huge and unique, as well as the asian butcher block. read more

Housewares and interior decorations to back right of entrance. Lots of items to look at other than groceries. I liked how new flavors are incorporated with familiar products, notably the Lays potato chip flavors and those different flavors of ramen packages. ** RACISM WARNING ** 10+ year regular customer here. This review is specifically directed toward the older, only white woman who works here, didn't catch her name but she is short, has glasses, tattoos on her arms, and maybe grey/light brown hair. In my own personal experience, everyone else who works here has been incredibly friendly and helpful. I have never seen this woman working here before but management definitely needs to do something about her. She made a huge fuss in front of several customers (including myself, my wife and my two young children) about a different employee not being at the check-stand. When we got to the check-stand, there was nobody there to begin checking us out and this older white woman was "shooting the shit" with some younger gentleman regarding personal issues. Yes, I was eavesdropping. So when she decided to scold the other woman checker for not being at the check-stand, I couldn't believe the audacity. One thing said led to another thing said and the woman who was being verbally abused was speaking in their native language so this abusive employee decided to belt out loud in front of everyone "IF YOU HAVE SOMETHING TO SAY, SAY IT IN ENGLISH! YOU KNOW HOW TO SPEAK ENGLISH SO IF YOU HAVE SOMETHING TO SAY, SAY IT TO ME SO THAT I CAN UNDERSTAND!" as if she was instigating a fight with this poor woman. After some additional words were spoken, the woman who was clearly having some kind of a race-fueled breakdown proceeded to walk to the back of the store and not assist the checker with the line that had now started to form. Talk about double-standards... This type of behavior is NOT ok - whether from an employee, an employer or a complete stranger. If this woman is a part of management or ownership, this is 100% worse and I feel absolutely horrible for the employees who have to deal with this type of abuse on a daily basis. To management/ownership: If you are reading this, I sincerely hope that this employee will be dealt with because this is no way to run a business. Businesses have been doxed for far worse reasons so I would hope that you are smart enough to resolve this matter. If you are aware of this already and you continue to allow it to happen under your noses however, then you are just as guilty of enablement and racism and I will no longer be giving you our business. To the verbally abusive employee: Perhaps you need to rethink your career choice. Working in an "Asian Marketplace" with Asian folks might not be the best workplace for someone who very clearly struggles to grasp the concept of Asians speaking in a different language. I've always found myself going to an Asian mart to get great prices and different varieties of mushrooms. This place did not disappoint, great selection. I'm updating my review I wrote in 2021. I've been going here for a quick shopping quite often, and each time I am very happy with their selection, service, and cleanliness. I'm particularly happy with their frozen food and produce section. They have exotic mushrooms in great price! They have great selections of frozen steamed buns, several Japanese frozen entrees, etc. Lots of Japanese/Chinese sweets! Every time I go, I walk around a bit and find something new and interesting. Passing time until the dogs are ready at grooming, and decided to finally stop in. Guess I'm just spoiled because of the Asian stores in Sac. ( Ranch 99, Sf Seafood, and Korean Plaza.). Plenty of merchandise, and variety of brands. Not sure how they rotate stock, because there is so much on shelves. I was looking for LKL XO sauce, but they didn't have it. Their store is stocked with fresh vegetables. And their freezers are full too. They have items for your personal care. You can shop for a his and her gifts. There's even sweets to select from. Both Asian and American. They have Asian decorations to select from for your house. Or for a friend. Each is unique and Beautiful. Everything is delicious to eat. An the prices are very reasonable. We have been trying to find a good selection Asian market in Reno and finally found this place. Not super crowded on a Saturday afternoon. Great selection of Chinese, Japanese, Thai and other Asian goods. This place is a great food market and general Asian goods. This place also reminds of the San Francisco housewares stores on Clement or Irving Street - cookware, plastic ware, bowls, plates and more. We were looking for chinese sausage, dried mushrooms and sweet rice and had no problem finding the items. They even had fresh rice noodles near the cashier. Brought in a tote bag to do groceries and was greeted to a older white man getting real close to me and trying to open and look into my bag. I wasn't expecting this so I was very clearly scared. Apparently this was the owner, he asked if I was going to pay which i very clearly was since I was close to the register. I have never experienced this level of uncomfortableness in a store before. This could have all been prevented if he just explained he worked for the store and simply asked if I could have used a basket instead but he chose to have zero ounce of professionalism. He tried to apologize at the counter but why the fuck would you try to creep around someone and open their bag. If the apocalypse comes, don't bother coming here. Not much on the shelves anyway. I was in desperate need of glass noodles for a soup I was making and popped in here, thinking I could also pick up bok choy and a couple of other items I needed. Well, I found the glass noodles and the bok choy, but not much else. Part of this cavernous warehouse is used as a wholesaler (nice kitty cat roaming in the office, by the way), and the other half looks like a storage space for things purchased at Chinese restaurants that may have shut down. Very strange. I ended up at 168 Market a few minutes later and recognized at least 3 other "refugees" who had been here, couldn't find what they needed, and so went to another market to find the rest of the things. Going to start with 3-stars. This is a brand new store that is just setting up their shelves, but are open for business. The place is huge. Looks like they will have many aisles of grocery items, a frozen food section, fresh vegetables. Of course, you can always buy a bamboo plant for good luck. There was an area with pots and pans and some general merchandise. There was a steam table in an area that is not opened yet, we asked and they said they hoped to have cooked food to go and a few small tables to eat there is you choose. Perhaps even Korean BBQ. While the address is Moana Lane, the entrance is on the side of the building. In fact, in driving past, it was hard to tell they were actually opened. Definitely going to keep an eye on this place as it expands it's stock and services. Who knows, I may even get an urge to actually cook again. read more
