The selection of candy and Pocky makes me very happy. I love this place! They're very friendly, too.

John's Grocery is an IC institution…read more Let me elaborate... BOTH the family-owned business and the building it lives in are. The building is only TWO years YOUNGER than the state of Iowa, having been built in the 1840s. STOP. Let that sink in a minute. And its namesake, John, took over said old-as-you-know-what building in the 1940s. WOWZA. That's some IC history right there folks. The beer room is sexy as hell. (Selection, selection, selection!) The grocery store itself is reasonably priced, available for online ordering and even boasts curbside pickup. Staff is helpful and knowledgeable. Parking is... well... not the best but doable. Plus, Northside's Oktoberfest is rad. (Which John's has a heavy hand in.) I recently had a party and needed beer. John's is communicative, upfront, professional and everything you could in a vendor. Doug, the grandson of John and the GM, personally dropped off all the items to my venue. He set it up, too. If you haven't been to John's, go. If you need a keg, call them. Period. End of stoy.

This place is great for craft beer. Both the selection (beers from around the US and outside the…read moreUS) and service. Jack was awesome in helping me track down some specific beers I was looking for. They also sell many (most?) of their beers as singles for beer nerds like me that want to try a lot of different beers and breweries but not have to get a 4 or 6 pack. Small but well stocked and easy access from anywhere in Iowa City.

Of all the Asian Grocery stores in the Iowa City/Coralville area, this one definitely has the best…read moreservice! The lady who works the register is always super friendly and helpful and just overall is a pleasure to talk to. Unfortunately of the all the Asian grocery stores in the area, this one is the smallest and has the least amount of product. Not a huge selection of fresh produce and meat compared to the other stores. That being said, if you're in a pinch, they have enough to get you by. For all you college kids, the selection of instant noodles, snacks, and drinks is pretty good! Like Chong's, this grocery store is also Korean so if you're looking for kimchi and things like gochujang they probably have it. There is also a small freezer section that has some pre-cut meats; I bought pork belly to make samgyeopsal and the price was reasonable. They have some non-Korean things as well, but if you're looking for more SE Asian specialties you'd be better off checking Great Wall or even Bai Jia. A HUGE plus about this place is that if you live downtown and don't have access to a car, it's within walking distance (next to the Korean BBQ Restaurant on South Gilbert, just north of Kennedy Plaza) of campus. The prices are reasonable but if you pay by card there is a minimum (I think $10?) so just be aware if you only plan on picking up a couple of things. That being said, if you're a student at the University and don't have regular access to a car, I definitely recommend coming here for your basic Asian grocery needs!

It's my first time going to this supermarket and I love it. They have a good collection of grocery…read moreitems. I was looking for the Siracha but wasn't able to find it anywhere in the store. I asked the staff and they were very nice helping me out to look for it but we ended up not finding it. Overall, they have a lot of good food here. I will definitely come back for more grocery shopping from now on.
