Fil-Am Oriental Store - On the left, bottled flavorings and sauces. I personally love patis and banana sauce. On the right, canned and jarred goods.

Because I was born into a Filipino family, I grew up enjoying Filipino culture either it be…read moretelevision, festivals, movies, or music. However, my favorite part of Filipino culture is so far the cuisine. Though Deguzmans in Orlando is the place to go for authentic Filipino cuisine such as kare-kare, dinaguan, bistek, and other dishes, the one Asian market local to where I love to get Filipino wares such as Filipino ice cream, Filipino snacks, and Filipino drinks is the Fil-Am Oriental Store. The small store is located in a very small two-story shopping complex just east of the Babcock St. and Malabar Rd. intersection. Upon entering, you'll notice the store consists of two fridge cases, four small aisles, and four cooler boxes in the back. To be honest, the selection they have is very limited. However, what they do have is what I want Filipino food-wise that no other Asian food market around here has. First and foremost, they have numerous flavors of Selecta ice cream. Buko pandan, mango, halo-halo, and ube. They have Filipino snacks and desserts, the three-in-one coffee packets, and the grass jelly drinks. Oh, and they also have the spiced vinegar, That may not sound like much, but it is a lot to me. Besides the unique selection of items that happens to be stuff I want and/or need, the family who owns the grocery is really nice. I have come to know the them and are considered friends of the family. I actually missed them at my niece's birthday party simply because I was fashionably late. To be fair though, almost all Asians consider each other family once we get to know each other. Back on Fil-Am Oriental Store, it is a "hidden gem" of an Asian grocery store that many people may not even know about. I really hope the are able to expand and increase their selection. For now, they have what is necessary among Asians (and other ethnic groups around here), but if they get popular enough to increase their inventory, their customer base living in South Palm Bay will surely be thankful instead of having to drive all the way to either Jason's Everyday Produce, the closest Asian grocery with a wider selection of goods that Fil-Am Oriental Store may lack.

They also have hotdogs, Langunisa, tapa, Bangus, pampano, smoke fish. Amazing even can goods like Ligo sardines, palm corn beef and liver spreads. They have everything that I need even different types of pancit for cooking to rice. I don't need to go to other Asian market that is bigger but are lacking of my favorite brands. This place is a great place to get all the seasonings that you need too!! Thank you for always being friendly and accommodating to us whenever we are in your store.

Phil-Asian Foodmart: A Taste of Authentic Filipino Cuisine…read more Location: Kissimmee, Florida Nestled in the heart of Kissimmee, Florida, Phil-Asian Foodmart offers a delightful culinary journey through the vibrant flavors of Filipino cuisine. What sets this eatery apart is its unique turo-turo style, reminiscent of the convenience of Panda Express but with a Filipino twist. Upon my recent visit, I indulged in the Filipino menudo and bistek combo, and I was not disappointed. The menudo boasted tender pieces of liver harmonizing with the savory sausage, all enveloped in a rich tomato sauce. The bistek, reminiscent of lomo saltado, was a symphony of flavors, with the tangy calamansi cutting through the richness of the soy sauce base. Surprisingly, Phil-Asian Foodmart is not merely a market but also features a cozy dining area where patrons can savor their meals on-site. It's more akin to a restaurant with a small market attached, offering the best of both worlds. However, given the changing daily selections, it's advisable to call ahead or arrive around noon to experience the full array of dishes. The culinary adventure doesn't end with lunch; Phil-Asian Foodmart also caters to early risers with traditional Filipino breakfast options from 7 am to 10 am. Longanisa with egg and garlic rice promises to be a delightful treat worth waking up for. Moreover, the market section of Phil-Asian Foodmart is a treasure trove for Filipino food enthusiasts. You can find sauces, snacks, frozen meats, bakery items, and even Filipino cosmetics. I rode my bike here today since I found out it was only 3 miles from my house. I can't wait for my next visit to Phil-Asian Foodmart. I'll bring a car next time so I can take more food home. Whether you're a seasoned aficionado of Filipino cuisine or a curious foodie looking to expand your palate, Phil-Asian Foodmart promises an authentic and satisfying dining experience.

I went in on a late Friday night. I was seated promptly because of my reservation at the bar. The…read morerestaurant is already very cozy, but being seated at the bar gave me a much more intimate experience. My server welcomed me and was great in helping me feel welcome as a solo diner. It was also very entertaining watching her and the other bartender whip up drinks in front of me. I ordered: Kinilaw - This is an elevated and more upscale take on the traditional dish. The hamachi was very fresh and the inclusion of the radish helped provide a change in texture. Despite all the fruit, it wasn't very sweet and the flavors of those and the coconut milk worked very well together. It tastes like kinilaw but it doesn't have the same "punch" or "impact" as the traditional one. But again, this is an upscale version and still tasted great otherwise. Crab Fat Shrimp - Shrimp cooked with a very creamy coconut milk sauce. I ordered this dish with the Sinangag garlic rice instead of having it with collard greens. Eating the shrimp with the rice is a great choice since the rice soaks up so much of the flavor from the sauce and the shrimp. Portion was surprisingly filling. Strawberry Basque Cheesecake - This was the best part of the menu! This portion was so generous and the dessert itself was sweet, but not sugary. The cheesecake was creamy and the roasted strawberries provided some acidity to cut through the richness. I had this with a salabat tea. Hot Salabat Tea - Ginger tea with lemon slices and a honey syrup. I loved how fresh the ginger was and it was a great way to end off the night. It felt very good for digestion. This is an upscale restaurant and therefore prices aren't very cheap. However, this is a restaurant to try at least once, especially for a special occasion.
