I had an inspection done years ago when I bought my first…read moresingle family home in this area. Should have known better than to go with a real estate agents recommendation. The reason they like inspectors like this is they are not deal killers and rubber stamp most houses they inspect. I dont review a lot on Yelp but since your home is likely your most expensive purchase I figured I would try to warn people of potential problems if you dont know what to look for. 1) Demand they take the covers off the boiler or furnace & look inside. There could be cracks in the castings the inspector wont see..Granite did not do this. 2) A good inspector will have the potential buyer follow them around the house to explain & point out potential problems. This did not happen. It was more of a race to the finish. 3) If the house has a septic tank, demand that they at least open the cover. We ended up finding out the tank was completely deteriorated because it was steel which will rust after being in the ground for 40 years. 4) Was told sump pump was installed when the house was built. How would he know? Found not to be true since there was a document found after our closing that indicated foundation repair work only 10 years prior. I can say he did a Radon test in the basement with a laptop to display real time data so that was a positive. The lack of a detailed inspection resulted in a new boiler purchase, septic tank & fields, and a not to code vented chimney for the boiler. Those are big ticket fixes that we could have negotiated a lower purchase price for the house. If u ask would I hire him again? Not a chance. Dont be like myself & learn the hard way...Interview the inspector your going to hire & have them describe to you exactly what they plan to do.

I received excellent service from Verify Home Inspection. While I'm familiar with home inspectors…read morefrom my past real estate transactions, the service Darrell provided truly stood apart from the others when it came to thoroughness. As an experienced home buyer, I thought I had a good understanding of the many different facets of inspections including septic systems-until the discovery of the hidden problem in my septic system. My septic tank had been pumped two years prior, and everything seemed to be functioning normally-or so I thought. I figured that my septic inspection would be relatively easy being that our tanks had risers with surface covers that were unobstructed by dirt or grass and that a check of the baffle and visual flow of the liquid-waste would be quick. However, to my surprise, Darrell wanted to inspect the distribution box buried underground because the tank was very full after only 2 years, with only two people living in the home. Darrell noticed slow outflow from the second chamber of the tank and surmised that there may be some obstruction between the outflow of the chamber and the drain fields perhaps caused by the many trees that have grown around the tanks since 1981. Darrell inserted a sewer scope into the outflow tank and discovered a separated drain pipe with one side heaved upward from a tree root. This certainly explained the unusual amount of wetness and lawn growth near the tanks which we had observed over the past year but hadn't thought much about. Who knew there was even an issue? What truly amazed me was that Darrell took the time to investigate further when he could have simply conducted a cursory inspection of the tanks, considered the outflow acceptable and left. After all, it was flowing. On top of that, he didn't charge anything extra for the additional work and time it took to dig up the distribution box and scope it. His professionalism, along with his diligence and attention to detail, is not only admirable, it is outstanding. He is truly exceptional. I since had the the field drains repaired with the septic company confirming the significant root growth that had penetrated sections of the field drain pipes. Thank you again Darrell. You have clearly shown what a true professional is and what integrity really means. -Mark.
