I grew up in Morecambe and saw the Midland hotel during its decline, whilst it was a boarded up…read morehaunted art Deco hotel and for the first time I've now been back since its great renovation. From the outside I was a little disappointed as for me the minimalist art Deco look has always been clean lines, tick, and bright clean bold color or white, cross. The exterior was an off white with and to be honest looked like it needed a good painting. Being on the seafront is probably the reason for this but it just didn't have the wow that I had been imagining. The interior is great, some parts are hit and miss but the majority is hit. Floor to ceiling glass panels surround a large part of the sea facing wall so its a great place to sit and watch the world go by. We ate at the cafe across to the right from the entrance, but had to sit in an isolated booth area because there were four of us. All the sea facing tables only seated 3 which was a little disapointing but a short walk down the stone jetty afterwards made up for this. Now onto the food! The food tasted great and was presented really well on wooden boards. I was only after something small so ordered the bread and olives which turned out to be a large platter with three types of home cooked bread, olive oil, balsamic and green & black olives. The ploughman's platter looked and tasted great as well. I definitely recommend paying a visit to the Midland if in Morecambe whether it be for lunch, some people watch or both.
