UPDATE - The theater manager and I spoke via email after posting this review. Although I had a bad…read moreexperience that night and originally left a lower star rating. I have changed it to 5 after hearing his passion for this theater. He also validated my cons and has expressed they are doing everything they can to remedy them. I will be back to see another movie here soon! The Ashland Theatre has so much potential! I've gone 6+ times since it reopened and I have the following pros and cons Pros: Clean Staff are friendly and professional Great spot to take a date or your family Good mix of new and old movies Cons: -You can always hear the other movies. Whether you're in the small theater up stairs or in the big theater you always hear the sound of the other movie. They could fix this by staggering the movies. I know the current situation makes sense from a staffing perspective but I have multiple friends that no longer go to this theater because of this issue. -The last movie I saw in the big theater (Chinatown) there was birds or bats making a screeching noise on the viewers right side of the theater above the large white circle. It was sketchy. -And this made me so mad. The lights came on 3 minutes before the movie was over. 3 minutes before the end credits. Ruined the end of the movie (ruined the ending of Chinatown)

The screen is maybe 12 feet long by 6 ft tall. If we would have known this we wouldn't have gotten tickets. The sound was good but when I go to a cinema I expect a large screen.

We really loved Denise when we talked to her about our daughter's destination wedding. So friendly…read more We said we needed "day of" to decorate the church and venue according to my exact descriptions and the main reason, to coordinate announcing dances and speeches. I was concerned she was 3.5 hrs away from our venue but was told no problem. We felt great about her and all her 5 star reviews so we signed "month of" contract with no hours. She said she doesn't set hrs. bc each day is different but she will be there 1st thing in the am until everyone is on the dance floor. She told us to feel free to contact her anytime before the month starts for questions. So nice of her and we did. When we set the timeline a week before the wedding she said she will need $200 more to be there until 9pm. When I questioned her she said "I am already giving you so much by being 3.5 hrs. away and you contacted me before the month even started and I happily answered your questions and I have never given anyone such a good price." I was shocked and started to feel really uncomfortable that we had hired her. She asked for lots of details and said she was a "stickler for details" and will do everything just like I want it. She got lists of what we needed at each location. She did decorate the dining tables as asked but didn't follow directions for most everything else. BIGGEST disappointment was the church isle for the bride's entrance. She had a text with a photo and written descriptions in 2 places to put the 18 wreaths I handmade ON THE PEWS. We wanted it to look like a German isle for her dream wedding. Instead, she hung them up high under the candles on a metal pole. They looked silly. This is something we can never get back and will forever be in our photos. The greenery and baby's breath were to be put "all over" the venue tables to look romantic. There were 4 small springs on the gift table. None on the long photo table. It looked barren and sparse. When cleaning up after I found the 2 hugs floral buckets with lots of baby's breath and eucalyptus STILL IN THEM stuffed under a table. We paid for all those florals that sat under a table all night. She didn't coordinate with the caterer to store the leftovers as asked and all that food had to be thrown out. We paid for that and the family was going to eat in the next few days while we were in town. I only saw her when we first got to the reception where she could not find the script for the MC. It was in the box with all the other things needing to be set out. She went back and looked in the boxes and insisted it wasn't there so our MC had to find a pen and paper and try to come up with his speech and timeline on the spot. My husband went back and found it right where I said it was. That was really stressful for my family. After this, I never saw her the whole night. She never checked with us to see if we needed anything. She was already gone before 9pm even though we paid extra. She did not coordinate the first dance or speeches. It was a mess. Didn't even have their first dance announced. I regret we hired her. I had my sisters all set to decorate the venue/church isle. Denise said, "that's my job!" and encouraged me to let her do it and let my family relax. I wish we had just done it ourselves. We put so much effort into planning it and almost nothing was how we paid for it to be. I contacted her several times with my concerns after the wedding and she ignored me.

The front desk staff were really friendly and kind. They told me there was a pool I could use, which was really funny considering the negative temperatures. I believe it is now a Wingate.

This location has been sold to someone else. (Don't remember who). So no one is really "fixing"…read moreanything quite yet. So if outdated & warn bother you this currently is not the place for you. With that in mind, the staff here is amazing. From the front desk, to housekeeping I have not met an employee yet that hasn't been amazing. I've been here for two weeks and everyone is just great. If I've had issue with something (because it is an older hotel waiting for a facelift) the staff has been amazing and fixed whatever the issue was. You can have the nicest, newest hotel and if the staff is like talking to a lazy, rude paper weight who is not helpful it ruins the whole experience. No matter what changes in the hotel keep the staff. Give them a raise and tell them how amazing they are doing because without them you'd just be another chain hotel no one remembers or cares to come back too when in your area. Being away from home for so long is tough, but friendly faces whenever you leave your room I great. No one wants to talk to "Karen" who can't be bothered cuz it's not her problem. I was able to do my laundry there even in the dated machines. Success. Clothes went in dirty and came our clean. Cooked in the microwave from 1996 and it tasted just as good. Questioned if it was going to explode or give me a tumor from radioactive waves by the sound of it... but so far so good. Nice flat screen TV I was able to hook my Roku to but had to use my hotspot as the Wifi wasn't strong/fast enough. Also worked out. Large well lit parking lot for safety for you & your vehicle so you don't have to worry about getting lost in the darkness. McDonalds right across the street if your 1996 microwave can't cut it and you become really desperate. Warm breakfast each morning. Some kind of meat (sausage, bacon etc) eggs. There has been other thing also. Ice is only on the second floor but let's face it, I'm sure you could use the steps. (Like health wise... elevator works fine). Venting machine on the first floor for all your usual overpriced last minutes impulse snack needs like all hotels. I had a room with a jacuzzi tub that yes was dated and warm. Tub is warm & HUGE! I could fit me and 3 of my favorite Guns & Roses band members in it. I didn't try the jets but it rocked all the same. I needed to make a few modifications to my room for my service K9 and they were super helpf! If you value staff experience over newest and fanciest, this is for you. Tell them Jane sent you.
