I could be petty and complain about the owner waste our (the interviewees) time, and not giving either of us the job... whoops I just did! Oh well... Seriously though, Scottish Apartment provides self-catered accommodation in pretty central locations. If I didn't live in Edinburgh, I would probably patronize them, as I love the idea of being able to cook my own food at any time I wish. What's more, I noticed they offer customized group trips, such as stag nights or romantic getaways!

The bed was very comfy and a large king size so absolutely great. The bathroom was separate and sadly shared but was modern with a walk in shower and very clean. The family and staff were all friendly, but we did find breakfast a little bit awkward in the family kitchen. A touch of subtle background music would have helped break the mix between uncomfortable silence and a 3 year old screaming through the breakfast on both days, which, with the owner and 2 helpers just didn't seem needed. I was also worried as the kid was in constant threat of being burned and I'm sure he would have been happier in another room playing. A breakfast menu of choices would have helped too as we were told continental breakfast then offered porridge and pancakes and so didn't know what tyke options were. I did have the porridge which was lovely with a hint of apple and cinnamon and topped with fruit salad. It didn't need the chocolate sauce it came with this lost the cinnamon. Overall a lovely room, in a great location.

The washing machine was a plus, as was the heated towel rack. Most staff were great, helpful, and accommodating. They seem to take pleasure in giving information about Edinburgh and provided an annotated map with highlights. The location was perfect- walkable from all the sights, quiet, and close to Edinburgh Waverley. Cons: I had checked in on the app. I don't love that they charge progressively more for checking in early. It felt like a money grab if the room was available earlier. We had checked in on the app but when we tried to go down the hall to our room, a staff member rudely told us to check in at the front desk. I felt like I was being scolded, when the app had already provided check in instructions and door code. The bed was not comfortable. The rooms were cold- I tried to turn up the heat but it must have a setting that doesn't allow it to go past a certain temperature. There was no closet or anywhere to unpack belongings for the stay. WiFi was spotty and slow

Everything we needed was there. All bathroom and kitchen necessities were provided. There is a laundry/dryer machine in the apartment. We liked that it was close to a lot of the places that we were going to as a tourist, either walking distance or via bus. It was a very comfortable home away from home. But the cherry on top for us is that the staff there goes above and beyond. They are very kind and helpful. When we needed a taxi, they called one for us. Our last day in Edinburgh was going to be a train ride to London. We checked out and went to the train station. We were at the station when I asked my daughter if she had her laptop with her. She looked in her bag and discovered that it wasn't in her backpack. Just as I was turning to go back to the apartment, one of the staff (Karen), appeared out of nowhere with the computer. The apartment is a little over 1/2 mile from the train station. Karen looked like she ran from the apartment to find us. She tried calling us but we didn't have service. So she took the time to bring it down to us. We are so grateful for Karen and the rest of staff that is caring and kind! We had wonderful stay at the Royal Garden Apartments and in Edinburgh.

Serving Belhaven beer and the standard lagers and guinness. Prices reasonable. Only disappointment was the choice of only two malts which soon went. Recommended for sports with mates, or family but not a romantic meal for two. Stop press - having emptied the afore mentioned two bottles of malt I mentioned this to the landlord who promptly went out and purchased 6 more bottles including one I specifically requested. Now that is good service.

The restaurant for breakfast was full and people were being seated in an over flow function room and service was slow. service was also slow in the bar however this was a very nice setting for an evening drink. The hotel has an indoor pool which was a nice touch and a gym although it was very dated and needs some serious ungrading.
