Amazing! My husband was in pain from a work injury for 10 yrs! He had herniated and bulging discs as well as stenosis in some of the foramen all in the vicinity of C6, C7, C8 & T1 Before allowing the orthopedist to hack my husband, we went for a 2nd opinion-he met a lady in Costco who had recent neck surgery and she recommended Dr. Taban literally called him God! It took 3 months to get into see him for consultation but we'll worth the wait! My husband was only 40 at the time and after going over his imaging and history he suggested something much different than what Dr. Grossman at SCOI wanted to do to him! (3 discectomies & fusion) holy crap! Dr. Taban said "absolutely not! You're young and healthy...You'll be back in 10 yrs for more surgery!" His recommendations were clearly what my husband needed and we scheduled his surgery w/Taban-had to wait 3 months for the date (that's how busy he is) but again we'll worth to wait! When Dr. Taban got going on the surgery he found that one of my husband's disks had ruptured, and that definitely explained why he was in so much more pain... So he cleaned up all the fragments as well as the bulges and said, there was plenty of disc remaining. No need to remove them. He also performed a Foraminotomy, and a laminectomy, as well as drilled the holes wider for the nerve roots to flow freely through. My husband was a new man within a week! Dr. Taban is amazing! My husband has been doing wonderful ever since-20 years later. He still has some soreness that he has to deal with and does see a chiropractor sometimes. We learned so much through this, and we're so grateful that we found this Dr. Taban. Do not let anyone touch your spine unless they're a neurosurgeon! Even if they're a "spine specialist" don't waste your time! Go to a neurosurgeon. Highly recommend Dr. Taban! P.S. This office is severely understaffed. When you arrive on time for your appointment, be prepared to wait for HOURS to see the doctor. The staff -- from receptionist Maria to office manager Ellen -- are the LAZIEST people I have ever seen. And I don't say this lightly. It took many, many, many phone calls and emails over a span of several weeks for the staff to type up the doctor's half-page, handwritten notes for recommending surgery. In short, this office does not have their act together and won't stay on top of things unless they are prodded by patients to do their job. Miracle Worker! Dr. Taban changed my life. I could even go so far as to say that Dr. Taban saved my life. I had an L5-S1 interbody disc fusion on 1/5/16 at the age of 25 and I feel absolutely fantastic and "brand new". The difference was night and day; from chronic debilitating back pain since 2014 due to a disc protrusion from a car accident, to being able to dance at my best friend's wedding in April of 2016. The office staff lacks professionalism, courtesy and knowledge. Dr. Taban is not very hands-on, friendly or proactive with his treatment. He also neglected to thoroughly review my medical history and asked me why I never had a certain procedure done when it clearly stated that I was not a candidate. I had noting but bad experiences with this doctor and his entire staff and I would not recommend them to anyone. I just recently reached out to them because I needed a response to a request and found out that Dr. Taban is no longer treating patients with brain issues. It was nice of them to notify me of this when that was decided. read more

What ever you do don't go to this fraud. He will make up bills and charge you after the fact. When I was there he couldn't even get his computer working and couldn't read my MRI dvd. The appointment was cash ( I won't disclose the large sum but it was over $250.) which he and his receptionist said covered the visit completely. Now a full two years later he sends me a new bill for $600 more. This guy is a fraud. Stay away. He has a Ph D from Iran, a non-accredited foreign University which should be suspect enough. All he did was tap my knees with a little rubber hammer and try to get his computer working... and now wants another $600 for this, maybe because he has run out of patients and needs to find some way to have money come in. Check in RN offered that he had known Dr.Tabon since he started there at Northridge hospital 20 years ago and the doctor was exemplary. Neuro surgery was quite successful. Dear Dr. Asher Taban, Thanks for healing my husband, who suffered severe and debilitating pain, over a period of four months, due to a pinched nerve in his lower spine. Before seeing Dr. Taban, we consulted with six different doctors, who couldn't diagnose the cause of his pain. The radiologist diagnosed his pain to be caused by bulged disks, and subsequent doctors prescribed physical therapy, pain medication and epidural shots which were totally ineffective. He almost went through an unnecessary surgery due to a misdiagnosis from a spinal surgeon. Dr. Taban spent 2 hours examining my husband and, after carefully reviewing the MRI, discovered a spinal cyst that was pinching the nerve and caused constant severe pain. He called the radiologist, who agreed he had missed the cyst and agreed to revise his original report. Dr. Taban operated my husband to remove the cyst, which released the nerve. Four months ago my doctor discovered that I had a pituitary adenoma tumor in my brain. I was referred to Dr. Taban through my health insurance provider(HealthNet). He explained to me that surgery was necessary in order to ensure that this benign tumor did not complicate my overall health. About two weeks ago Dr. Taban performed a surgery to extract the tumor, which was about 33mm large. Despite the large size of the tumor he removed the tumor completely through an endonasal endoscopic procedure. There was no complications and my recovery time was only two weeks. I am fully satisfied with the work that Dr. Taban did and would highly recommend him to any other patient. I saw Dr. Taban 9 years ago for a consultation re: brain tumor. He was pompous. He never bothered to look at my MRI until I was sitting in front of him, even though he wanted the MRI prints a week in advance of my appt. He told me I might lose sight in one eye and that I should give blood in advance of surgery. He may be great at back and neck surgeries, but he really doesn't do enough brain surgeries. Go elsewhere! I did, and I didn't need to give blood and the tumor was nowhere near my optic nerve! read more

Dr. Taban is an Amazing surgeon! I came to him in 1995 paralyzed from the waist down after a car accident that fractured T-11 thru L-2. I had seen 2 previous surgeons who have informed me that I would be paralyzed for life. I was 18 years old and that was not going to work for me. I am incredibly grateful that I had the good fortune to be sent to Dr. Asher Taban by my HMO primary doctor. After several months of back discomfort, pain traveled down my left leg and into my hip, making it difficult to walk. I was in pain no matter what I did; walking, sitting, standing, lying down were all painful positions. Once I was referred to see Dr. Taban, my recovery began. I was scared of surgery, as I had only heard terrible stories about back surgery making things worse. When Dr. Taban met me he was kind, patient, and informative, and it was clear that he had carefully reviewed my MRI and all the new patient paperwork I had filled out. His examination of me to gather more information about my condition was so thorough and reassuring that my fear of needing an operation turned to relief that he could help me through surgery. He showed me the MRI of my spine, explained what the problem was, and that he was confident that he could correct it. The day of surgery was the most anxiety-free, reassuring and professional medical procedure I have ever experienced. Several hours after surgery a physical therapist taught me how to get out of bed, walk, and move during the next weeks as my back healed. I was able to go home that night, and the absence of pain was remarkable. My surgery was three months ago now, and I have none of the pain or discomfort I was living with before surgery; I feel like it was a complete success. I went to several other doctors for several years before seeing Dr. Taban. Dr Taban determined that my pain was coming from an entirely different area than what I thought and than what was being treated by other doctors, and he was right. Rather than recommend back surgery, which wouldn't have fixed the problem, he said I was not a candidate for back surgery, gave me a shot in the area that he said was causing the pain near my hip and within a few weeks, I could lift my leg again without pain to do simple tasks like put on my socks and the sciatica went away. I had significant pain radiating down my left arm, with associated numbness in my middle and index finger of my left hand. Family doctor recommended having an MRI and then review findings with Dr. Taban. MRI found a significant bulge coming out of my C7 disc. Was unable to function as the pain was relentless. I tried a variety of recommendations for heat and cold therapy, etc.. Nothing worked, even Vicadin was not helpful. Rarely could even sleep. I was only 51 and feared the rest of my life would be filled with misery and painkillers. After reviewing the MRI with Dr. Taban, it was clear that surgery should be considered and was likely the only real solution to my pain. Dr. Taban recently operated on my back correcting 2 areas of severe spinal stenosis. I had been in pain for about 8 years. I was starting to get weakness in my left leg.
