He doesn't overcharge. His work is clean and done right. He charged me cost for the new strings. He put in some sweet new pickups into my guitar. He cleaned up my neck and polished my frets at no extra charge. I paid him more than he asked me for because I had no idea he cared so much about every job he gets. Canadian independent. Toronto local. Can't get much better than that! I recommend Ash to anyone that likes doing honest business without a crazy markup for profit. read more

Ash Guitar Repairs - New pickups, new strings. He took this guitar to 11. - Musical Instrument Services Near Me

The output jack on my Cordoba C7-CE had become loose and could only be tightened again by removal of the strings and getting inside the sound box. The guitar is equipped with a Fishman pre-amp system and I did not want to risk damaging the wire connections of this rather expensive system to the jack. Ash completed the delicate job entirely to my satisfaction for a ridiculously low charge. My guitar sounds as good as ever with the now secure jack and I am consequently extremely pleased. This gentleman prioritizes service over profit making and he has my highest recommendation. I certainly will use only his services for my guitars in the future. Thank you very much, Ash! it was a singular pleasure doing business with you. read more

I brought in my cheapie 20+ year old electric guitar for repairs. To say that this instrument has been neglected is a bit of an understatement. I hadn't really touched it in about 15 years, and even then, it sounded pretty rough, due to my lack of knowledge about how an electric guitar is supposed to sound (it was the height of the grunge era and I'm a terrible player). Ash was completely non-judgemental about the state of my guitar and was immediately able to identify a few ways to make it better, including fixing some manufacturing errors. I was kind of blown away by his knowledge of my low-end entry-level guitar. He gave me a rundown of what was necessary (replace the original 20+ year old strings, etc.) and what I might want to do once I graduated from being able to play above a kindergarten level (fixing fret levels so the strings didn't buzz, etc.). I asked for the minimum, plus a fix for whatever was causing the guitar to ONLY work at volume 10 (it could only go big or go home). The guitar was ready in 2 days. Ash fixed the volume and control knobs by giving them a good cleaning, replaced the strings, probably did a bunch of other great things I didn't understand, and shined it up like new. He also (again, non-judgmentally) gave me some good advice on how to maintain this and any other guitar. Now, the guitar sounds better than it did coming out of the box and it's a real joy to play. The whole experience from beginning to end was great, and a lot like working with an honest mechanic. Ash treated my guitar with greater respect than it deserved, while understanding that I didn't want to spend a lot on fixing it. It's clear that he usually works with professional, or near-professional musicians, but he never talked down to me. I can't recommend him enough! read more

Update: Brought in another (recently-bought brand new) guitar for a customised set up, and this guy was able to exemplary deliver as what was being requested of him. :) Thank you! ***** I just picked up the guitar that I brought in for set up and repair. Very satisfied with the outcome. Besides fixing the issue, I never received a guitar as clean, shiny and nicelconditioned ever until now. As soon as I held the guitar, I noticed his diligence and attention to detail in handling the same. Moreover, Ash is very accommodating, personable and honest. He has been patient with all of my questions and requests. Finally, his rates are reasonable -- and maybe the lowest in the GTA area, if not in the whole of Ontario or Canada. Highly recommended! read more

I came to Ash for a pickup swap on my kiesel vader and it only took him a few days to complete the task in a clean and professional manner. I seriously can't find anyone else in town who gives a better deal on guitar related repairs. Extremely knowledgeable and genuine cool guy to talk to. I've taken 3 guitars to Ash for set ups and fret work and I've always been impressed with his work. He does not need to tell anyone how passionate he is about guitars or his work because his actions and results speak for that. He'll take as much time as necessary before and after the repair to make sure it's done right and the result is what you want it to be. 100% recommend! read more

I bought a new guitar from a major music store chain. I was playing if for a week or so and it just did not feel correctly setup. I looked for someone in the Toronto area that could setup my new PRS Mark Holcolm and replace the dreaded cheap plastic nut. Took it to Ash and he had it correctly setup and the nut swapped out with the better Tusq XL nut. I am still a beginner but I could feel that the guitar was greatly improved in play-ability and action wise. He also changed out the stock strings for a set of balanced strings as I needed the guitar to be tuned in E for the time being while I am still learning. The new guitar feels like it should have been when I bought it, I guess I needed a "professional" to look at it. Amazing that you would get a guitar from that dealer setup the way that I got it? Anyway Ash took the time to explain all that he did to the guitar and many other helpful tips. Overall very impressed and happy with his work and prices. I will definitely be going back if I require any future setup or changes made to my instrument. read more

Knowledgeable, personable, patient. Highly recommended. I just needed something very simple done- a strap peg on an acoustic with a bolt on neck. Ash took the care to work with me to confirm the manufacturers info on exactly where to place the peg and confirmed it with magnets as well. Even the drill angle was discussed at length. He was very personable and friendly and obviously passionate about guitars and all their nitty gritty nuances. Highly recommended and located in a great spot for those in or around Uptown. read more

Just got my 5 year old Fender Deluxe Strat setup and redressed (frets) by Ash and it looks as though it's brand new! As others have mentioned, Ash is a great guy and takes pride in giving his best towards setting/fixing up the instrument. He's also very knowledgeable about what works and what does not and his prices are extremely competitive. It's rare to find someone who's willing to take time to explain stuff in detail and put in dedicated work to return the instrument in pristine condition. I will definitely be getting my future setups done by Ash. Definitely hit him up if you need a guitar repair! read more

I took my Iceman Ic500 in for a fret replacement and re-radiused the neck because of humidity related warping. It was a really big technical job, but Ash gave me my guitar back in better condition than when I bought it. Very professional, and detail oriented to ensure your getting the job done right. Fast and good. What to ask more? I took my Les Paul to Ash for a broken volume pot and I was able to bring for repair the guitar immediately, not to mention that I got the text that it was fixed on my way back to home! So I was able to play the guitar the same afternoon! Ash is a great guy to chat with and he responded to all the text in support for driving directions and parking. Price was absolutely right. I will use his service again for sure. Highly recommended. read more
