Whyyyyyy are the reviews for this Waitrose so negative (... granted I left a three star many years…read moreago, but the general global grocery experience has changed dramatically since then). I actually love this Waitrose! It really is my go to every time I'm in the city. Yes, it's ALWAYS busy. But, it's also extremely conveniently located, has free bathrooms (which, admittedly, there is often a queue for), and has - in my experience - been pretty well stocked despite the crowds. Maybe not so much an hour before closing, but I can get all the essentials I need: fresh fruit! bags of ice! basic medicines! many delicious alcoholic beverages! an impressive variety of Free From products! ceramic mugs to drink Cava from in the park! I wish their triangle sandwich selection was as impressive as M&S, but overall this is a near daily stop for me when in Bath.

This branch can be found in The Podium shopping centre and is extremely popular, so be prepared to queue for your goods! Even though the store itself is relatively big, the isles are quite narrow and difficult to navigate, especially if you have a trolley. The varieties of foods they sell aren't quite as extensive as other Waitrose shops which can be disappointing. But the staff are always polite and willing to help if you can't find a particular item. For a similar price, I prefer to shop at Marks and Spencer's on the high street where the queues are shorter and the food is more interesting.

In this supermarket-hating age (or at least it should be) it's nice to be able to go to such a…read moregrand market and not be bombarded with pictures of Jamie Oliver with your school children, points schemes and other such ideas that slowly inject these big brand names into your everyday lives. At Aldi it's a simple turn up, get your food and leave sort of deal - and I'm rather fond of it. I'm also rather fond of the European chocolate selection or the bizarre sweets that I assume never leave your digestive system. I'm equally fascinated by the many jars of pickles - shaking them around and wondering what vegetable they've pickled today. The fresh fruit and veg section, admittedly, is something to be avoided but they also sell clothes! Cheap tacky clothes, but clothes none the less. Thus many many reasons to visit this humble supermarket.

This Aldi is pretty amazing. As well as the usual food stuffs you find in other supermarkets, at…read morethe middle of the shop there are a few huge baskets containing all sorts of bits and pieces. I have no idea how they manage it, but they always seem to have exactly what's needed on any given day. For instance, when the snow started falling, I ventured into Aldi to find a pair of snow boots and a ski jacket! Perfect. If it's raining you're bound to find a load of umbrellas and raincoats and if it's sunny there will no doubt be stacks of flip-flops and sunglasses awaiting you. It's truly ingenious. Apart from the weather related apparel, they also have some really random stuff in here, so if you're on the look out for a travel pillow, boiler suit, or badminton set, then it's worth checking out. You never know - you might get lucky.

However as this place is so huge you'll probably still find what you are looking for. Since I've lived in Oxford I've come here about a dozen or so times. We tend to try and stick to mid evening as the crowds die down a bit and they are not quite into their horrible restocking mode. Generally you can find fresh products and a wide selection of near everything (do not come to this Tescos if you are looking for home goods/ electronics/ etc). The prices as it is Tescos are decent. The staff are generally friendly as long as you're not getting the end of shift crowd. PROS: Large selection Good quantity of stock Price CONS: Gets ultra busy Leftover stock can be of bad quality Other side of the ring road.

It's got a huge range of items, although no adult clothing (other than underwear) or much in the way of electronics/media/toys, unlike even bigger stores. For groceries, though, it's got a lot to offer. Fruit and veg are of good quality and usually well-stocked. The deli and fresh fish counters offer a lot of choice, and they even have a large 'Polish food' section. They have two 'car trolleys' which amuse small (and big) kids greatly, and make the shopping trip easier with children who are too big for the trolley seats but too small to walk all the way around without whining. Staff are friendly and helpful, and offers on food are good value.
