I have been blown away with the efficient pacing of lessons, the unique customizing to my learning style and performance needs, and, most importantly, the results. I have experienced much improved tone, more balance throughout my range, and recognition of the improvements from other performers and guests. In this class, I was openly insulted by him several times even after stating that I am a beginner. In front of the others, he proceeded to reference an example that apparently compared my singing to that he always wanted to play baseball but he just wasn't good at it. He was better at soccer instead. I was highly offended because as I child I was told cruel comments about my singing by certain family members and it stuck with me for my entire life. At 38 years old, I finally (or so I thought) drew the courage to try to learn properly how to sing and all was going well until that fateful Tuesday that is. Mr Juan should think before he speaks because there is a great difference between constructive criticism and outright rudeness. Making jokes that I had tonal amnesia is very upsetting. He doesn't know what some of his students have been through or how many have finally summoned up courage after putting their voice out there again after previously hearing cruel words. He tried to cover up his nastiness by saying no one is here to judge only to help. Well, too late, as I felt and still feel judged. I am not a professional singer nor do I pretend to be. I only wanted to learn and not have childhood trauma re-hatched. I guess I will take Mr. Juan's advice because as a classically trained ballet dancer I will stick with my own version of "soccer" and forget about singing because it's my version of "baseball" and apparently I will never be decent at it no matter how hard I try. One always catches more files with honey than they do vinegar. I hope Mr. Juan will one day learn that. I originally tried to post this review on Wellness Living last year but Avalon School of Music wouldn't post it to keep their bogus 5 Star reviews. Adults looking for lessons BEWARE of Mr. Juan!!

My son loves his Kindermusik class! He has been attending since about 9 months old, but many will…read morestart their children prior to that. The class is approximately one hour long. They have a structured program with sing alongs, activities, rest time and plenty of opportunity for child-caregiver interaction and participation. My son has fun during each class and shows noticeable development with his milestones afterward. I have never had a problem with communication from the Grow and Sing staff. I received multiple emails and texts about the 4th of July week being off for example. They send all material and much of the music and sounds ahead of time which helps with repeated exposure and the kids can continue to learn once the class has ended (think of it like reading before class during college). They are quite flexible about missing a class as long as you try to let them know ahead of time and they do allow make-up classes. I have recommended Grow and Sing to many and will continue to do so.

Calling Amanda Pogach for piano lessons was one of my best recent decisions. As a middle-aged man…read morewith no prior musical training and uncertain talent, I was hesitant. I wanted to be able to play fun tunes on the keyboard for friends at parties and in particular I wanted to be able to play a jazzy version of Happy Birthday for my wife's upcoming birthday. I took the plunge and am glad I did. After a year and half of lessons, I can read music and play at least two dozen short, popular tunes, some of them beyond beginner level. More important, I am now able to pick up music that interests me and easily get started on learning to play it... and, these days, when I listen to music, I can relate to it in a more insightful way than I ever have before. Lessons with Amanda are well-structured, rigorous and fun. We initially spent several sessions on reading music and on foundational topics like rhythm, pitch, intervals, scales and chords. I was a bit impatient at the time, but I understand now how Amanda brought it all together to give me a solid base from which to learn more advanced topics and tunes. Amanda is good with technology. After our first several sessions in her studio, our lessons have mostly been by Skype. Whether she is away on holiday or at her studio, and whether I am at home or traveling to other cities on projects, a portable keyboard, inexpensive webcam, laptop and internet connectivity are enough for lessons to take place seamlessly. I have found learning this way to be very effective. I can see and hear Amanda. She can hear me play, and in particular, can see my fingers on the keyboard. When I need to see her keyboard fingering technique, she simply points her camera to her hands. Amanda's musical education and her practical experience as a professional soprano make her a qualified (and fun) teacher. I am happy with my lessons and am glad to be learning from her. One and a half years ago I called Amanda with no musical experience (other than some singing in the…read moreshower) and a desire to learn more about my own voice. When I met with Amanda, she was very open and made me feel at ease about my relative lack of singing knowledge. We started working on the very basics of singing and have been progressing to increasingly difficult skills over time. She has been quite lovely about helping me to grow at my own pace--encouraging me when I needed it and pushing me when she saw that I could go further. Along the way, I decided that I would try my hand at auditioning for bands in the tri state area. After 3 months of lessons, I auditioned and booked my first job as a singer! Since that time, I've continued to grow in my ability to sing freely with greater range, improved tone, and an increasing amount of confidence. Vocal lessons with Amanda are both fun and focused. Because I was a beginner, my first several sessions began with learning about posture, breath support, and some simple vocal exercises. Since that time, the vocal exercises have gotten progressively more challenging and are focused on the areas of my singing that could use strengthening or expanding. Although we work quite hard, we also laugh quite a bit which makes it easy to keep coming back! I've really enjoyed the structure of each individual lesson as well. Lessons start with vocal exercises/instruction and then move to singing any song that you choose. It's a wonderful way to get a vocal foundation while also getting to practice the things that you are learning with songs that you love! Lessons with Amanda are also quite accessible. I've been able to get appointment times that allow me to accommodate the other parts of my life, and I've also been able to do lessons via Skype. As I intermittently travel for work, this has been especially helpful!
