I couldnt be any more pleased than doing classes with Aruna Yoga. I also love that it is off the beaten path in the Irish Countryside!

I reserved writing a review about this place as I had nothing to compare it to until recently. Now…read moreI am fully equipped, I feel it is my duty to let everyone know how brilliant this place really is!! I started my yoga there about 4 months ago... A first timer, I always thought I was a zen-creature and this should be the perfect form of exercise for me, very little movement and lots of breathing and chanting- I was right! I took to this like a duck to water! Mind you it was alot tougher than I expected and I definitely feel that I have worked out! Walking up the stairs I am always greeted with the wafting of incense- off with the shoes & socks and into the room I go. The room is bright with wooden floors and a real sense of serenity. The walls are adorned with Yoga pictures some almost like the "success isn't the way your stand" type encouraging mantras. Statues of Budda and other yoga and "OM" symbols are dotted about the room. The room is always cozy and warm with plenty of heaters to combat the joys of the Irish weather and it never feels to stuffy. As the class begins to fill up the room never feels too crowded (max 12 to a class). Geraldine Kinane is the instructor; she takes us into mediation and stretching we become aware of the whisper of relaxing music helping us to further relax and unwind. Ger is very clear in her instruction and encourages to reach as far as we can to our limits with out pushing. She explains all the poses clearly without taking us away from our breathing or relaxation. The class runs for an hour and a half ended with Savasana (meditation). Her gentle voice allows to to deleve deeper into relaxtion and use the power of our class and breathing to achieve a greater sense of balance and reward. Now I know that this might sound hippie-dippie to some of you but believe me, it's truely fantastic. Not only do you feel relaxed, well rested and energtic, after completing her class my mind (for the first time) felt quiet and I had actually stopped going over my to-do list in my head and was able to hear the music on the radio while driving home!! It's a great place and affordable too!! Can't say enough great things about it!! If I did have one problem is that the hallway is quite narrow when you are trying to put your boots on after the class... A small thing. Ger teaches two types of Yoga, Forrest and Hatha and also has classes for children and pre-natal

Don't get me wrong the studio is gorgeous and Sonia herself is a lovely lovely girl but the practice is not one I would recommend. It is done in 15-20 min sections.. outside noise makes it difficult for first timers to concentrate and the lack of music was a big no no for me. I find the stopping and questioning very annoying and would prefer to have the full as advertised 1 hour or even a full 35-45 mins meditation without interruption by Sonia. That is just my opinion as I know that the other women love it. I am used to a full 45-50 min meditation which I personally find much more beneficial.

I decided to wait a day or two to write this review. Aside from the fact that my body has stopped…read moreaching enough to pick up a pen ;-), I wanted to think about my experience here properly and rate it accordingly. The reason I wanted to take care is that this is the first Bikram studio in Ireland I have visited, and originally thought that perhaps my comparisons with other countries may not be fair. However, upon reflection, I think my initial reaction was right. The studio is based all the way out the back of Maynooth Business Campus. It's quite difficult to find, so if you are on your way there, just keep on going all the way to the back. This facility however, is my major gripe. It is a business park, so most of the spaces have obviously been designed as offices etc. I have seen spaces like this converted before into fantastic studios, however, this is most certainly not one of them. There is a nice reception area with fresh towels, yoga mats etc, but things go downhill from here. The changing room reminded me of one you'd see in public pools or school gyms. Hooks on the walls and long benches are all that is provided to store your stuff, so everyone just leaves their bags / clothes / shoes strewn on the benches. There is only one toilet inside, despite there being at least 30 women in there at one time last night. There is a second toilet, however you have to literally walk outside of the studio and reception area into the external building to get to it. There are three showers I think, but again, don't look particularly inviting. Onto the main gripe - the studio. It's carpeted. So wrong in a hot yoga facility in my opinion. The carpet means that the place absolutely stinks when you go into it. In fairness, you forget about the smell pretty quickly, but it really hits you when you go in first. There doesn't seem to be any air circulation, just huge fan heaters blasting out sickly smelling air. Yes, Bikram is all about heat, but the air also needs to circulate so as to ensure bad air isn't constantly being kept inside. I'm not sure on the technical aspects of how this is done, but I have never seen space heaters like this in a yoga space. Good points were the markings on the carpet making it easy to get aligned and completely mirrored walls. The teacher was also great (which is most of the battle). Overall, because of the facilities in which the practice occurs, the general vibe in here was far from relaxed, and to be honest, I couldn't wait to get out.

I really can't see why anyone would write a poor review about this place,…read moreStaff and teachers are great, really helpful and friendly. everyone there is so relaxed because of them. really clean studio, compared to others i've been in and i never have a problem with any smell from the studio. unlike another studio i tried. highly recommend this studio to everyone!!!
