Wow! Just, wow!…read more Maybe over my lifetime I've just had bad luck with doctors, but Dr Berk shines above the rest. Firstly, I went in and was actually listened to rather than having the Dr wait for me to stop talking. He never interrupted me and let me interrupt him, when I did so accidentally. I regularly feel Dr's don't listen to me. Sure, their training is in medicine and they are the experts, but I am certainly the expert at what I am experiencing. If I feel regularly shut down as a man, I can only imagine how women are made to feel with most doctors. So this first off was an excellent sign. Secondly, he was friendly, upbeat and polite. That's not necessary but a nice touch. On to the checkup. He was methodical. He told me exactly what he was doing. When I told him I thought my BP was a little high on his machine, rather than ignoring me he did a second check to ensure it was correct. He was knowledgeable about my ailments, my medications and I didn't get the feeling he was just trying to rush me out the door to increase his turnover cash. This guy is aces in my books and I changed my primary care physician to him today. I'm angry I didn't find a doctor like him sooner. I've only seen him once and his businessman paraphernalia is a little disconcerting. I like money too but it makes me uneasy. I had to sign a form saying I am responsible for the full final cost. Most doctors I've seen will charge a high amount for the insurance and "forgive" the rest. Gotta say that makes me uneasy as well. We'll see how it goes going forward in terms of how badly it hits my wallet and I will update.

I can't believe I found a doctor as great as Dr. Berk so easily. I made my decision based on Yelp…read morereviews after ZocDocs reviews lead me astray on my last doctor's visit. Yelpers are the best! Dr. Berk's staff was super helpful and even chipper, but not annoyingly so. The new patient forms weren't unduly long and didn't require me to sign over my first born child. There are computers set up in the spacious lobby where you enter your symptoms, which is nice because it gets rid of the prelude conversations that you normally repeat to 2 nurses, a physician's assistant, and the doctor. I didn't mind the computer system at all. The waiting area, as I said, was spacious. The light was nice, and there was a glug-glug with really cold water, which made this sickly gal quite happy. There was one girl waiting and one couple who came in after me who were seen before I was, and they seemed to go in and out quickly. I was called back (after paying my co-pay), and I talked to Mary, a sweet doctor's assistant who I thought was very good. She did all of the temp taking, etc.... Within 5 pages of my book of her leaving, Dr. Berk appeared. Dr. Berk is the kind of doctor you imagine when you are little. The kind of doctor you envision you will have after the mean pediatrician who gives you shots flees the scene. He is kind, inquisitive, is aware you are sick and don't want to talk a bunch, and had great information about why I was sick, the neighborhood, and how I was going to get well. He did not rush me, and I felt like I could ask as many questions as needed. He rides his bike to work. Need I say more?! He's like Mr. Rogers but not creepy. With the paperwork, the computer quiz about my illness, a little bit of waiting, and my actual visit, it took 45 minutes, which I think is fantastic. The office is conveniently located to just about any subway line you could want, so I suggest you hustle over and see Dr. Charles Berk if you're feeling under the weather.

Just went in for an annual check-up...sounds simple enough…read more.. Was told i would receive a message from doctor concerning the blood results the following week. Waited patiently and no response. Called 10 days later and was told by receptionist my blood tests came out "Normal". I asked if it were possible to speak to doctor regarding any details about the blood tests. Was told that i would have to make another appointment to speak to the doctor since my tests were Normal. Then i asked if i could have a copy of my blood test results sent to me. Once again,..they are unable to - "you have to come in person to pick up the results", i was told. Trekked all the way to the doctor's office (a subway ride for me) to pick up my tests results and then looked at the blood tests in detail when i got back home. Apparently my 'Triglyceride' levels (level of fat in the blood) is 2x the normal range...and i have trace of Ketones in my urine. Ketones means that i'm burning fat rather than glucose to produce energy. Thanks a lot doc...don't you think this was information i should have known or at least been able to discuss?! It's sad when WebMd and Wikipedia has to fill in the blanks... The level of care was not what i expected from a doctor. You get a lonely star for submitting my paper work to the Lab and for not charging me for the photocopies of my Lab results. The search for a decent doctor continues...

I've gone to him for a physical and for one other visit, and both times have been incredibly positive experiences. He's very knowledgeable and down-to-earth, which is a tough combination to find in medicine. Both times I've been seen pretty quickly, so the waits aren't too long. A mixed bag. The good: Dr. Toprover is knowledgeable and professional. He has a good "bedside"…read moremanner and really listens to you. He is old school in the right ways--he noticed a major health problem I had instantly, whereas the urgent clinic I'd gone to the day before did not. The not so good: The office is always incredibly crowded. You will wait long past your appointment time, guaranteed. The receptionist, while knowledgeable, is extremely brusque, to put it politely. I've had specialists call there and almost hang up on her. The old school really holds: The doctor doesn't do fax or email. Need a referral or refill? He will want you there in person, I guess so he can charge your insurance, not taking into consideration that you may need to take another day off work. You will see lots of people complaining about the dirty office in the Google reviews. They are correct. I stay with him because he is near to me.

Dr Buono is a wonderful doctor but it's impossible to get past his rude male receptionist. Deceptive Billing, Unnecessary Blood Tests, and Public Humiliation…read more I scheduled my appointment through the clinic's website, which clearly stated the $300 fee included both the medical exam and completion of Form I-693. When I arrived, the receptionist confirmed this. Even the doctor told me--without me even asking--that the $300 covered both the appointment and the documentation. He said a blood test might be an additional charge and necessary to complete my I-693 which I agreed. I had already provided proof of all required vaccinations, and blood test that I got in another clinic and my insurance paid for it, so there was no medical reason to run any tests. Still, they mentioned one specific blood test, but then performed a different one that I did not need. When I returned to receive my results, I was suddenly told I had to pay another $300 to complete the documentation(form I-693) completely contradicting what both the website and staff had previously confirmed. When I questioned it, the receptionist began yelling at me in front of the entire waiting room and refused to finalize my paperwork unless I paid again. It was deeply unprofessional and humiliating. After leaving, I called the clinic to clarify. They told me the website was "wrong," and that the true cost was $300 for the exam and another $300 for the form (I-693) something never disclosed at any point. I requested a detailed, itemized bill showing the charges for both the appointment and filling the form but they refused. All they offered was a basic credit card receipt. When I finally received a billing summary, through email they cc two more people who could see all my bill and personal information, however they didn't disclose the charges and instead just sent me a total of due without specific information, so i had to request a disclosed bill and when I got it,they were charging me for hepatitis b, varicella and MMR titer and i had the vaccines for all these (I gave them my vaccine record including vaccines for these diseases so not blood test was necessary) This clinic is dishonest, lacks transparency, and operates unethically. They performed unnecessary medical procedures, changed prices after the fact, refused to provide proper billing, and publicly humiliated me. I strongly urge others to avoid this place at all costs
