Apologize for the delay on posting this review... We visited MacQueen's Orchard in late October on…read morea Saturday. Due to it being close to Halloween and in Apple Season, it was busy. MacQueen's is a local business that has been around for years and not only do they offer pick your own apples and pumpkins, they have a nice produce selection, jam & jelly room, bakery (nothing better than warm donuts this time of year), cider mill where you can watch the bottling process, and a room full of Christmas decor. Staff is friendly and helpful even when they have a ton of people meandering about. Prices are fair for the quality of product and as I mentioned previously, their warm donuts are a hit! We will be back...

I'm glad we came earlier in the season because there was plenty of fruit to pick from! Why I'm giving this place 3 stars: - There was a hole in the wagon wheel, in my opinion, someone should be keeping up with small maintenance things like that since the season is about to be in full swing. - The older ladies who were working outside made me uncomfortable as I was walking passed an empty booth and were not very friendly about the fact that I didn't know about a blue ticket I was supposed to have (my dad was the one who paid to get the apples and was walking in behind me). I would have been understanding but they were just judgmental and condescending about it. If it's such a big deal someone should be at that booth ready to check tickets if they know people are driving up.... -Donuts were nothing special but they do have A LOT of yummy looking choices -Really good selection of apples but horrible signage. There is a map but you have to take a picture or study it really well or you'll have no idea what you're picking. -If you have a hard time walking, this is probably not the place for you. Overall, there was a super sweet girl working the bakery. There's a corn maze that looks fun and plenty of pumpkins to choose from so it's not my favorite place but I might be back for the maze.

Wood County Fair - Getting ready to take this fair on!

They are just not about the fair. This place is about community. Most months they have a flea…read moremarket. A lovely group of vendors that want to deal and sell. I look for albums. There a few hardcore people selling fun stuff mostly country but some disco and 80a as well. You never know what you'll find.

Quite an impressive record! I'm always a sucker for county/state fairs, a big fan of the agricultural / gastronomical competitions (best rhubarb pie, stoutest steed, etc...). The Wood County fair is situated West of town on Poe Road - those of you from the area don't need me to tell you how to get there. Those of you not from the area - well, go to the High School and then just keep driving west. Ample (free) parking nearby and entirely reasonable entry fee ($6) with an abundance of truck-food options. I'm from Tallahassee (FL), and our annual state fair has about 1/2 of the food options than this - and is by all measures a bigger event. My instinct is that this fair draws visitors from across the county AND surrounding counties. What I didn't notice was a substantial ferris wheel - but it's very likely to be found in fairs that frequent the larger population areas (e.g., Toledo) but I don't know. We came on a Wednesday evening - arguably the least busy time of the week - and stumbled on the KOI drag racing events. We stayed for the warm-ups and I was impressed with how many folks were in the stands. Turns out that we didn't really stay for any of the rides per se, but my two oldest packed away a Philly Cheese Steak & fries, along with waters while watching the warm-ups. Good fun. Fans of midwestern rural county fairs will thoroughly enjoy Wood County's shin-dig!
