Our heater caught on fire during the first week of the new year and we had Arthurs replace the unit. Arthurs representative, Gary, came out promptly and arranged for that replacement the very next day. The installation went well and we got what we thought was a good deal on a new HVAC system. The installers were polite and professional. The installation took several hours that day but all was done when they left and we were happy with their service. The new system worked great, a little large for our house and quite efficient with the airflow. Then the real fun began.
Before they departed, the installers told us that there would be some blowing dirt but that was normal and it would subside. However, they installed our new HVAC system on top of a burnt and damaged plenum box. There was no way that would have been missed during the installation, they just didn't say anything about it and installed the new unit on top, and the dirt really started flying all over the house.
At first it was just a little, then the windowsills and curtains, the dog food and water bowls, the carpets, rugs and the drawers in the bathroom vanity, sofa and chairs, beds, countertops, kitchen stove covered with a fine layer of dirt. Clean them, dust, vacuum, the very next day, full of dirt! Dirt everywhere everyday, very disgusting.
After a few weeks with no decrease in the amount of blowing dirt, we realized something was wrong and contacted a different company to come clean our ducts. They insisted on an initial camera scope of all the ductwork before they would proceed. They are the ones that discovered the burnt and damaged plenum box that was left in place under the new heater unit that Arthurs installed, and they took photos of their findings.
We contacted Gary, our salesman (and also part owner of Arthurs). Gary asked for copies of the pictures, which we sent, then he offered to replace the plenum box and repair the ducts for a reduced price of only a few thousand dollars. We agreed to that and the crew came back out and spent many hours uninstalling/repairing/reinstalling the HVAC unit, plenum box and ducts.
During this time our insurance adjuster was asking for photos from Arthurs of the original fire-damaged system and Gary said he would send them, but he never did, although it was requested of him several times by both the adjuster and my husband. Fortunately the adjuster went ahead and approved our claim from the photos we were able to provide, but Gary was not helpful in working with our insurance adjuster so we could be compensated for the new HVAC system.
Now it is May, five months later, and at least one of our ducts is still spewing dirt. (See attached photos, these areas were clean the day before.)
We called Arthur's late yesterday but they "have to get back to us". It is after 2 PM and no word. They never offered to pay for a cleaning service either but they really should, this mess is on them! I am so sick of it all and would never recommend Arthurs to anyone. read more
