The Trinidad Tech Shop is staffed by Chris and Ryan who are wizards with technology. No one in…read moretheir right mind will dispute this. I, however, know Chris and Ryan as the proprietors of my very favorite gaming shop. While technology repair may be their purview, the shop is also a haven for those of us not satisfied with console gaming and streaming video services, those of us looking for more in a game than a positive k/d spread or longest average life. Magic the Gathering is a staple of most game stores, and Friday Night Magic is a nationwide phenomenon. The Tech Shop is no exception. They even have an official judge in Andy, who also runs a Dungeons and Dragons campaign on Saturday. Tuesdays are open game night, with new games being tested, old games being mastered and Magic the Gathering being played in a format called Commander. Now, Magic came out when I was in high school and, while I appreciated it, I never really enjoyed playing it. The night I learned to play Commander, with the help of a super knowledgeable regular named Paul (who is also an official MtG judge) was the first time I actually had fun playing Magic. Wednesdays are for Warhammer, both the fantasy version and the ultra sci-fi version, 40k. Andy is the expert-in-residence concerning all things about the miniatures game. While I retain an intellectual interest in learning the game, I would much rather learn it with my own army. To that end, I asked Andy to teach me how to paint miniatures, which he was all to happy to do. I then discovered I have a natural aptitude for it and, what's more, found it to be extremely satisfying. I marvel at the progression: in the process of learning about a new game, I found a new hobby entirely! I first started coming to the shop because I wanted to play D&D. Since then, I have learned to play a dozen games that, under any other circumstances, I wouldn't've even heard of, made friends with people I wouldn't've otherwise met and employed strategies that were previously beyond my ken in games I thought I'd mastered. It has become a home away from home. Big shoutout to Chris, Ryan and Andy: your store is great, your work is outstanding, and you yourselves have no equal! Keep up the good work and I'll see you all soon!

If you reside in Trinidad and need a major appliance repaired, you are stuck with this business,…read moreunless a new business has become available since I posted the review. Joe is pleasant enough and competent but this is one of the most mercenary businesses I have done business with. Just to make a diagnostic appointment, it is necessary to pre-pay $112.00. After payment is received then they will make an appointment for a service call. Then you discover they added $25.00 fee on to your pre-payment for using a credit card. After a 15 minute service call, we were advised parts would need to be ordered. Must wait while they research part availability and cost. Then we received a text messsge advising the amount of the parts, the shipping and the tax. Again, payment must be made prior to the order for the parts and you will find another $25.00 charge for using a credit card. We waited over 2 weeks until we were advised that the parts had arrived so then another service call appointment had to be made. After the parts were installed we were advised the parts had a one year warranty but the labor was warrantied for only 30 days. They NEVER answer their business phone. If you try to leave a message, you are advised their voice mailbox is full. We only communicated by text messages. This equated to us having a dysfunctional appliance for 3 1/2 weeks. Having the part numbers available, I researched the retail price of the parts. I learned, I could have ordered the parts myself for less than 1/2 of what I was charged. That means, Joe buys the parts at wholesale price, then doubles the retail price, adds his credit card use fee, plus shipping and then adds tax for Trinidad. Never mind I live outside the city limits and do not receive Trinidad services, yet I was charged Trinidad sales tax. Unfortunately I no longer have the dexterity or strength to do-it-myself. For future reference, should I need appliance services in the future, I will seek service from Raton New Mexico or Pueblo Colorado even though it will probably mean additional travel distance fees. If you need appliance repair in Trinidad, I do feel sorry for you - you are going to pay. I am satisfied with the performance of the appliance post repair.

At least that was the plan... until he called me with a blown transmition in Trinidad, CO. Not only did he have a blown transmition but he had 4000 pounds of tools in the bed of his truck. So just having the truck towed to a shop...was not an option. We needed the truck 100% protected from theft. After making 5 calls to various businesses in hopes of storing/keeping the truck for a few days...my confidence was dwindling quickly. On the 6th call, I got in touch with Angie @ JM Tire & Repair/Towing. Not only did she seriously step down my frustration level....she basically solved all of our issues on that one call. She towed the truck to Low Buck Storage, which her and her husband also own....she met us there at 9PM and allowed us to store the truck w/ tools for 3 days INSIDE a personal garage of hers, until my "AAA" kicked in. On Monday, "AAA" contacted JM Towing (Angies business) and had them tow the truck up to my mechanic in Denver. The tow was free with my "AAA" and when I called to pay Angie for her services, I spoke to her husband and he said there would be no change. WHAT? Are you kidding me? That's impossible!! No one, much less a business does something for free anymore. It was refreshing, it was kind, they will always have my business AND I want to tell everyone about it. Our tow truck driver was personable, kind and so ready to do whatever he could to make us comfortable and lower our frustration. It was an overall awesome experience. I picked my cousin up in Trinidad, and booked him a flight from Denver for Sunday..........and he made it to his new job, just like we planned !! Thank you Angie, her husband and our awesome tow truck driver.

Months later when I came to get some things out of an enclosed, padlocked storage unit, I found the lock had on the unit was gone and another one put on. I thought at first management has cut the lock off, but it was some thief who stole stuff worth about a thousand bucks, but left behind stuff worth more. They were after the easy to transport and sell stuff, not the hard to sell and trace kind. Storage units are in short supply in this area, so beggars can't be choosers, and too bad too as the thiefs are sure to keep rolling into this place and pulling the same stuff till either Las Animas County Sheriff or the management does something about it.
