Love that the YMCA offers Les Mills classes and even better, they host launch events every few months to showcase the new releases. These launches are always a big deal and bring such great energy! I participated in the Core launch and BodyBalance launch, and both classes were amazing. The instructor is incredible, super motivating and really knows how to make the experience feel special. She even hosted a drawing for prizes, which was a fun extra touch. The energy in the room was high, the workouts were challenging but rewarding, and my body definitely thanked me afterward. It's one of those "feel good after" kind of workouts. I also love that these classes are included with membership, it really adds value and makes it worth it. We love the YMCA and all the amenities they have for the community and those seeking to stay physically healthy. I'm a big fan of the sauna and love bingeing able to enjoy that throughout the year. Their locker rooms are always clean and have plenty of space for storing items. My husband appreciates that they have lockers in various places so you can quickly come and go without too much fuss. They have a great new walking area outside with other aspects like a field etc that is open to anyone in the community. Wonderful for a walk in the good weather! We have appreciated this gym and all of its aspects and will continue to enjoy it! read more

Wow! Who would not love this place!?! From the monument you walk in, you are greeted by a fun and smiling staff member. The lobby is bright and inviting . The classes are fun and instructional and you can set your own pace if need be. If you have any problems keeping up, the instructors are always there to help.. love the deep water aerobics on Tuesday evenings. A fun group of people and a great helpful instructor Yes, I flipped around a bit but she was always there to get me back on track. The upstairs machine are up to date, serviced well and always clean. If you need help with a machine, there are instructors for you too! But, my absolute favorite spot is the indoor play area! I love spending time chasing and climbing with my 20 month old grandson creating special memories in a clean and safe environment! The time spent at the YMCA is worth every penny !! read more

I was very excited when we first joined. The facility could definitely use a facelift, but overall it's a decent place. We especially loved using the outdoor pool during the summer. My only issue is with the swim program. My kids have been taking lessons there for a year now. At first everything was great. The instructors are all really great and my kids love them. The problems started just this month. My kids moved up to the advanced class late last year. They worked with us getting them into the class for the remaining months of the year. Then in January we switched to Tuesday nights and that's when things went downhill fast. In the very first lesson they had 8 kids in the class and only one instructor. One of the kids in the advanced class could not swim and not only that, but this child also misbehaved terribly. The instructor spent the entire class helping the girl get across the pool without drowning. The girl can barely even doggy paddle. Which meant all 7 kids who can swim were left at the opposite end of the pool unsupervised and not receiving instruction until the non-swimmer in the class made it to the other side with the instructor. I brought up the large class size and the fact that one kid received all the attention in the class and was told they would be talking to the family and that we could switch to a different night. A night that does not work for us. Thinking they would handle it, we decided to stick it out. The next week the kid was still in the class, still unable to swim and misbehaving. I then decided we were just going to end our membership and cancel lessons at the end of the month. I reached out to the executives to let them know why they lost us as members. I received an email from the aquatics director assuring me that things would be taken care of, but that they could not move the non-swimming child to a different class. Why? I'm not sure. She should definitely be in the lower level class but what do I know? So last week they had 2 instructors in the class but both instructors were more focused on the problem child than the other kids so it made no difference. The girl constantly splashes other kids in the face. She kicked my son in the chest and hit my daughter in the head with a kick board but nothing happened to the girl. They keep saying they have a plan in place but won't say what it is. I'm not sure why they're catering to one child. The family must know someone because why else would they not put the child in a class more at her level? My kids had to work to get into the advanced class and she seems to have just been placed there for some unknown reason. My kids now hate going to lessons when previously they loved it. It's unfortunate that because of one child, this facility is now losing a family membership and 3 kids in swim lessons but it is what it is. I have to do what's best for my kids. They haven't learned anything new since December and are dealing with this girl physically hurting them during class and I can't have that. I hope they work it out before more people leave. Editing to add: The Aquatics Director was supposed to get back to me by the end of January with their plan moving forward. She never did. Yesterday was our last lesson and my kids aren't even sad about it. That's how bad the past month has been. read more

My family always gets the summer family package. The pool is nice and refreshing. My children always are involved with the soccer teams. The coaches are friendly and attentive. We always enjoy the concession stand on the soccer fields. The Kiwanis club. They are always so nice and friendly. Cash and credit cards accepted. There is a three dollar minimum for the card which is never a problem for us. read more

Still seeing nasty people not cleaning their machines or equipment. Sometimes you have to wait a long time for a machine because people are texting or having phone conversations instead of actually working out. When I tell the YMCA people, they say it's been mentioned before. Rules obviously don't apply Quit for a bit, but miss the classes and came back. Guess I'll deal with rude and unhygienic people. read more

I think this Y is a little outdated and have seen some spots that are in need or repair - when I see that it just makes me a little jaded. All in all though, Baxter is a-ok. It's a great community resource and is very well used. It always seems to be busy and full, but not too full. My main reason in making the trek from downtown to this location is for the pool, hot tub, and sauna. Sooo relaxing after a good workout! I keep meaning to try their indoor volleyball on Friday nights. read more

The best monthly pricing is for a family. It's pretty expensive for an individual. However, they will work with you, especially if you have current medical bills or are low income. A great concept and good company, I feel for people who no longer have children at home, who don't need daycares or camps, 72.00 per month is a bit steep for my husband and I who are on a limited income. I'm grateful for all the wonderful services you provide, but how about giving a break to those who are on a limited income and only want to do the water aerobics classes? YMCA years ago cared about people, had great customer service and was very affordable, please bring that back so all of us rather they be wealthy, middle class and for those who are struggling financially can benefit from the using of your facility. read more

I am checking out this facility for a possible place to take pilates classes. In comparison to the many gyms and pilates studios I have priced I was surprised that the YMCA held some ground. Location for me is a big thing and in this case it is rather hard to get too -specially during traffic so if I want to try to go to pilates afterwork I am going to have to hightail it. Looking at their website they do have great payment plans and financial assistance based on houehold income. I used to come here as a child and this is where I learned how to swim, where my brother had summer soccer camp, and where we wreaked havoc during summer pool time. Recently my hubby and I decided to get a membership because he uses the Bike hub for work. We like this location because it is has good group exercise classes, like Zumba for me, and plenty of workout equipment for the hubby. I find the staff polite and the place clean, which is important. The instructors are great and really get to know you. There is a lot of equipment in the gym and I enjoy the fact there is an indoor pool and lovely locker rooms. I will keep enjoying my membership with its lovely benefits and hopefully we continue to have a good experience!! read more

I actually grew up right behind the Y. We spent many a summer days in the pool. We learned to swim here, attended preschool here, and made friends here. It has always been a great place with quality and caring people. The workout room (or wellness center as they like to call it) is very large. If you have children you can drop them off in the playroom and go workout. As for the review of Pilate's fee plus membership, I also was going to take Pilate's here. The extra fee may be to the fact that they use reformers in there class. But some classes do cost more, I am assuming due to training of the staff and providing equipment. None the less if you have a family this is a great place go. You are bound to see at least one person you know. read more

I received 4 months free membership from Anthem and fell in love with the place and joined. I love love the Mon and Wed 7:25pm group exercise class with Kathy! She in fun! I'm a big fan of the Baxter YMCA. It's an all-around great value and a well maintained facility. I've used the fitness center, the pool, the on site childcare, and my daughter is currently enrolled in her second year of summer day camp here. I love that there's something here to keep everyone in my family happy. The staff are very friendly and overall everything here is very clean, which goes a long way to making me happy. Good large Y with a nice wellness center. Large amount of classes so the wife can do Zumba while I work out. Also the ellipticals all have TVs on them, which is kind of awesome. There is a pool, racketball courts and a basketball court, none of which I take advantage of, but they're all there. The staff is always friendly from my experience and there to answer any questions. read more

There was a 17yr old that pulled a gun out last night during basketball pickup game. Some told the front desk, then told again and asked for identification help if who it was. Those that saw it don't want a target on themsrlves and left quietly.the front desk said yeah they told people to avoid that gym, the police were coming. One of the people who saw this then watched the kid with the gun walk out with his backpack and the police aporantly didn't check the people leaving. I've been going to The CityWay YMCA downtown because of it's sauna and whirlpool. My back has been painful and the heat helps. I also go to exercise. However I went to the Baxter YMCA because I live close to it and realized they have both a whirlpool and sauna, they just don't mention it on their website. They also had plenty of parking and have indoor and outdoor pools! read more

This ymca is my main gym. I really enjoy the employees and the well maintained facility. I always join the 5:30pm spin class after work, and ,if I'm feeling up to it, I head down stairs to play a bit of racquetball. I wish the hours were longer and they were open a bit later. The sauna helps me relax tight muscles after a workout. I leave feeling refreshed as well as accomplished. The staff keeps youths in check and is more than happy to help in any way that they can. read more

They truly embody the "there is something for everyone" approach when it comes to fitness. For the mom who needs a quick escape a little "me" time, they have a great child care watch program for infants - teens. They have a decent array of classes all hours of the day - if you want a challenge take Dodi's or Stephanie's strength and endurance class. Your body will thank you. During the holidays it can get a bit busy - but the rest of the year, there are always machines open to circulate through and plenty of benches and free weights to go around. No gymtimidation, no long lines, just fun fitness. What I love most about this gym is that it is a safe place to try something new, to push yourself, and the staff are extremely friendly. I go to the Atheneum at least four to five times a week and I absolutely love this facility and the staff members are incredibly helpful and kind. I take the Strength & Endurance class as well as the TRX class every week and these classes have strengthen my body on new ways. The staff members who facilitate these classes are skilled and knowledgable about what they lead. I absolutely love this place! I look forward to going! read more

I like Baxter mostly because it's the closest place I can get to. The fitness and machine equipment is more than adequate for my needs and actually the reason I come here is for Dotti's strength training class on Sunday mornings. I think these types of classes are the best kept secret around. I found the same case a the Cityway YMCA. For some reason these classes mostly attract women and I am one of a few men who show up each week. You can make these classes easy but you can also seriously punish yourself and get a heck of a workout in a super efficient way. The time passes much faster than doing weight machine rotations or free weights and I am toasted but the time I am done. Highly recommend it! read more

The Baxter YMCA offers many great group exercise classes and my kids love the PrimeTime Family play area. It is a good place to take the kids to blow off some steam on these cold days. We're really ready for outdoor pool season though. The waterslides, pool, and baby pool are a big hit with my 3 kids. As far as gyms go it is fairly clean. There are times that I believe the family restrooms could use some attention, but hey hundreds of families are using the place each day in the summer. The adult only locker rooms are much nicer. There are plenty of universal machines, treadmills, ellipticals and bikes. The crowds are heaviest from 5-9pm, but it is not unbearable. The child watch areas are well staffed and supervised so I never worry about leaving my children while I go and workout. Check out the Y if you're needing a place to work out that also offers plenty of extras for families! read more
