I took a class here a couple of years ago and maybe it's changed since then, but now that I have…read moretaken other kinds of nonstandard fitness classes ranging from dance to circus to martial arts, I can say that this was a complete waste of time. I signed up for a beginner's class during the summer and because of the heat wave a number of us had sweaty hands, so gripping the pole was difficult and we were not allowed to use any grip aid because it would make us "lazy." I have never heard such an absurdity before. Had it not been for the heat wave I don't think the sweaty palms would have been an issue as there is no way to break a sweat in the beginners' class. In eight weeks we learned about two spins, plus walking slowly around the pole, a body wave (which is done standing on the floor), and one other move that was supposed to be "naughty." We didn't practice scissor kicks for core strength, proper technique for wide grips, sitting on the pole, or anything else that is perfectly suitable to beginners. The owner seemed nice at first, but kept condescendingly calling me a "cute little thing," in front of the entire class and seems to feel that she owns the rights to pole dancing. She believes that any student who eventually moves onto teaching pole dancing after training at their studio has committed intellectual theft. Now, I believe that no one should be teaching without proper certification, but just as no one owns the rights to ballet, or tap, or any other form of dance, no one owns the rights to pole dance and as becomes more popular training will likely become at least partially standardized. One positive thing I will say is that the studio is really beautiful, but taking a class there is not something I would recommend.
