We arrived at Arthur Murray all because we needed SOMEWHERE to learn choreography and pizzaz for our wedding day! This place manages to bring so much sunshine to our rainy city. Everyone here seems so happy, helpful, passionate and enthusiastic! The warmth of the dancers and teachers makes me feel magnetized to this place, it's feels like a community we've been missing out here, an activity that feels so good to participate in. When you sign up for wedding courses, they'll do a consultation to assess what you need and listen to your music to help choose the dance style that best fits your song, you even can get your song mixed. I do think price transparency is helpful for many, so private classes were about $200 per class for us as a couple. You get a teacher who will work with you all the way through and in addition you can come to multiple group classes at no extra charge each week.They have classes every day and "parties" on Fridays for dancers to all come together for a class and even demos! Ok let's be fair, 1 star review seems too extreme: -1 star because of the high-pressure sales tactics. They will ask you to join demos, showcase, do plenty of heat, etc. All this costs extra. Yes, this place is too expensive, we live in a capitalist society, and Seattle is already expensive so not much you can do about it. Is kind of worth if you can go every day to their group classes, however the higher level you are the fewer you get. If you know what dances you like, is better to join a place that teaches that. -1 star the place itself, some group classes get too crowded and during the summer it gets too warm inside, seems like the AC isn't working right now. Finally, this is more personal but Friday night they have a 1-hour party, I wish it was strictly dancing and not doing stuff I will never do somewhere else. 1 star for the location, if you are in Seattle and want to learn different types of dances, I find this place great, I avoid traffic, I can even take public transportation to get there. 1 star for the instructors. They are friendly and I like that you can switch instructors between lessons, I wished there was a way to know if some of the teachers have some kind of certification. 1 star dance selection. My fiancé and I have been coming here recently to practice our wedding first dance. Everyone who works here has been helpful, instructive, kind, and professional. We did an intro offer to try it out (a perfect gift for V-Day) and now we are doing one of their wedding packages. Tina and Washington are great and we have also worked with Gretchen once. The time goes by so fast and we love the group classes as well! It can be a fair amount of $$ upfront, but we are finding it is well worth it for both the attention we've gotten in the private sessions plus all the group classes we could ever want. The group classes are essentially unlimited when you sign up for private lessons! In terms of safety, everyone is good about wearing masks, and there is hand sanitizer everywhere. read more

I love dancing and have taken various classes over the years at dance studios in San Francisco, Boston and New York. I signed up for a package which included a few private lessons and a group class. Instructor 5/5 -- The staff were very friendly and attentive. The instructor was lovely and a great teacher. Ambiance 1/5 -- The ambience was the dealbreaker for me which made me decide not to go back. There were many different lessons going on simultaneously and two different sets of music playing on either side of the open floor plan which was super distracting. When I came back for the group salsa lesson the music kept changing to non-salsa music and it was almost impossible to hear the instructor due to the high volume, chaotic music situation and no microphone. I communicated this feedback directly to the studio and they still tried to sell me on more classes. read more

I have been going to Arthur Murray Seattle for about a year and a half now (after never dancing before), and I love it. The instructors are wonderful, the events are fun and numerous, and the community is great. The core dances available are Waltz, Tango, Foxtrot, Rumba, Swing, Cha Cha, as well as the more club-focused dances of Bachata, Salsa, Merengue, and Hustle. Of course, if you are interested in other dances, you can add them into your program as well, I have seen several more specialty dances such as Argentine Tango, Mambo, West Coast Swing, Samba, Bolero, Viennese Waltz, etc. Monday-Saturday there are group classes for various levels available teaching a specific dance. Each Friday night there is a dance party that allows students to practice their moves of all the dances. During Q1 and Q3 there are large 2- or 3-day themed events called Showcases at a hotel in the area and in Q2 and Q4 they have a points-accruing "season" called Festival, which is also themed (and you redeem the points for lessons, etc.) I certainly think it is a wonderful studio to begin or continue your dancing education and journey. read more

Absolutely Wonderful Ballroom Dance Studio I have been going to Arthur Murray Seattle for about 6 months now. I have met and danced with each and every member of the team here and can say with certainty that they are the most positive group of welcoming people I have ever met. They do a fantastic job of bringing you in, getting you started and building your confidence, regardless of previous experience. And of course the non-instructor members of the team are friendly and helpful as well. I spent 30 years on the borders of dance floors because I felt foolish and didn't know what to do. After 2 weeks here I was able to get over that feeling and join some friends on a dance floor in a club in Seattle. After your introduction 3 courses, there is a foundational set of 6-12 courses (I think) and then you can enter the level I am in now (Bronze) and it builds from there. While enrolled in the foundation, bronze and above you have access to group classes (as many as you want while you are enrolled in private courses), and the Friday night parties. The Friday night party is one hour where you can get the best practice trying out your new moves in a supportive, learning, and fun envirnonment. During these parties they will play a song (for about 90 seconds or so) and call out the dance the song is for, and then everyone is free to ask a partner to dance and go for it - getting a real world scenario experience. Of course, the instructors are all over the floor as dance partners, and if you don't happen to know that dance, you can gather in the center of the dance floor to be tought the basic steps so you can dance that dance with zero previous experience. There are also larger (optional/extra) events where you can get an opportunity to perform dances and get professional feedback. Every six months there is an event called Medal Ball where this happens on a smaller, local scale, including all six of the local Arthur Murray studios. Every six months (in between the Medal Ball events) there are larger events called Show Case, and I believe these may involve more traveling. So there are one of these events each quarter. There are other annual events such as Dance-O-Rama which take place all over the USA and internationally. The main dances you can learn here are Waltz, Tango, Fox Trot, Rumba, Bachata, Salsa, Hussle, Swing, and Cha Cha. Some of the less common dances that I know are available are Country Western 2-Step, Bolero, and Samba - but I know they know many others and if you have interest in another dance they are quite likely to help you. And of course they can help you create a routine for your event-based dancing (wedding first dances, Bride/Groom and Father/Mother dances, etc.) One of the greatest parts of the logistics of Arthur Murray is their use of text messages for broadcoasting announcements, group classes, and events, scheduling future lessons, and even automated reminders of upcoming lessons. The community of dance students are wonderful, positive, and welcoming people as well. Overall this is an excellent choice for starting, continuing, or reigniting your ballroom dancing journey. read more

A super fun place to learn ballroom dancing! I moved to Seattle from NYC recently and have been wanting to learn ballroom dancing for ever. Lucky to have found Arthur Murray. The studio is located at an easily accessible location and all instructors I have spoken to are super fun. Shadae (who's my lead instructor) has done a great job of understanding my learning style and adjusting lessons accordingly. The other instructors (Washington, Tina, Bella, Teresa, Riley, Ray, Carla - I might be missing a couple names) are also very supportive and encouraging. Cheesier than the Beecher's Factory at Pike Place Market and more high pressure sales tactics than I've ever experienced at a car dealership. I would probably give this place two or three stars for the actual dance instruction, but apart from the dance lessons, the cheesy, over-friendly attitudes and the high pressure sales tactics are really obnoxious. Rather than the groupon that several other Yelpers have purchased, I actually bought a gift certificate for a lesson package for my wife as a birthday present, so it was really embarrassing to walk in and find out that it was a setup for a high pressure sales pitch. We didn't finish the gift certificate, like most people commenting here, because the horrible sales tactics ruined the (already cheesy) vibe of this place for us. These people are really, really awful. Please, please, please don't go to this place or you will regret it. read more

Got a groupon here and didn't even finish it. The sales pitches started before our first lesson and were so high pressure that they pretty much ruined it for us. Also, we wanted to focus on salsa but it took a lesson and a half before the instructor stopped bugging us to try to learn the bachata or tango. They would have several instructors teaching couples/small groups wildly different styles of dance at the same time and kept changing around the music. To their credit, the instructors were quite knowledgeable even though they said a few things that contradicted what I learned before. They had some good pointers, but the idea of shelling out $150 per 40 min or whatever their current rate is seems outlandish. read more

Theresa was an amazing instructor! My husband and I wanted to learn a simple but classy first dance for our wedding in June. She made us feel very comfortable, and we had a lot of fun learning the foxtrot, box step, a spin, and a dip. Neither of us had taken a dance lesson before, and Theresa made it really fun and easy. Our first dance went really well, and I would highly recommend her! The loss of one star is for the price. The lessons were more expensive than we expected, and after we signed up, we saw a deal on their website with the same package for half the price. My now husband and I enjoyed our classes at AM. Our instructor was very helpful and always had a positive can-do attitude. It felt like a relaxed atmosphere but we were always learning. And it wasn't like we would learn something quick and move on, only to forget it by the time our wedding came around. Our instructor did a great job at really emphasizing basics with us and engraining these basics in our minds such that it became second nature. This way, if we ever forgot a fancy move during the wedding dance, we always had the basic step to fall back on, and we did it really well so it still looked good. At first I only wanted to learn one specific dance style, but I like their system of presenting multiple styles. You will learn how the styles are related to each other, plus you will be able to stay on the dance floor more often. The sales process is what it is. I was presented a lesson plan including total price, which was over my budget, so we renegotiated a less frequent schedule that was more affordable. That's not high pressure, it's business. You get what you pay for. I am very impressed with the instructors at Arthur Murray in Seattle. They create an atmosphere that makes it easy for new dancers to loosen up and start a great hobby. Through the downtown studio, we've found a new community of friends whom we see on a regular basis, and that's a bonus! My husband and I love Arthur Murray Dance studio in Seattle. It's a system that takes a bit of getting used to but once you do it's worth your while.The price of each lesson includes both individual and group instruction and teaching parties. The staff is top notch and encouraging which I suppose could be mistaken for cheesy- a previous reviewer's complaint. We've been at it for a year and a half and are really happy with our progress. My husband says that if someone could teach him how to dance, they can teach anyone. Chad is our favorite!!! I like Arthur Murray. Got the groupon w/ a friend, did the 2 private lessons, 1 group lesson + 'dance party' series. YES, they want you to sign up and buy tuition to continue and YES, it is extremely expensive, BUT, you have to understand this upfront. With this knowledge beforehand, you get a wonderful overview of latin, ballroom, classical dance steps and there's no foundation of dance experience necessary. All you need is to have a good attitude and listen to the instructors. They are very good dancers and have an uncanny ability to break down the movements to a level that is understandable for the coordination-impaired, but also for experienced ballroom/latin dancers. Thanks to Andy and Carrie for a wonderful intro to the dressy-fancy dances. I highly recommend the 'dance parties' where you get the opportunity to figure out the steps with a new partner every song, which is strangely endearing and silly and is a blast.
