High Price, Disappointing Results…read more I'm sharing my experience with this tailor in a neutral and factual way, hoping it will be helpful to others. Before coming here, I had visited two other tailors but chose not to leave my coat with them for various reasons. I mentioned this to the tailor. After reading the positive reviews, I decided to give this place a try. When I arrived, the tailor spoke at length about his experience and the places he had worked around the world. The price quoted was $75 plus tax, which is higher than what other tailors had offered, but I decided to proceed based on his confidence and self-presentation. I requested a sleeve shortening and specifically asked for the stitching to match the original. When I picked up the coat, I was disappointed. The sleeve stitching was not straight and did not match the original style, which was surprising given the emphasis on his 20+ years of experience. Overall, my experience was not very positive, especially considering the higher price compared to other tailors.

My only issue with the dress, was that it was too long in the front. I asked to keep the dress long, but that I needed the front a bit shorter so I could walk without tripping. I had expected the altered result to look something like the second image. However, the dress came out with an added seam and unevenly long. The dress itself and the tail were now two different parts, and the dress flowed completely differently. Not to mention, despite the ends of the dress being trimmed, there was two added seams making something that looked like a belt pattern in the middle of the torso. Nothing was mentioned about this, and it looked terribly odd only in the front and with a backless dress. When visiting, the change rooms were dark and had almost no light, minus the light shining in from the other side of the curtain. I had brought in my dress 4 days before needing it. However, on the day of needing it, a few hours before I was supposed to pick it up, I was asked to come in again because he had forgotten to mark the dress. I trusted Silk Tailor with a dress I had genuinely loved so much, and had needed for an important event, and now I'm left with a dress I feel ashamed to wear to such a special occasion. I'm planning to completely replace the dress if I can. I'm not sure if the images are posting properly, there should be 8 of them. They might not be in order as well, so just go by photo caption.

I've only had it a little over a year, and it was in excellent condition, no stains, no holes, nothing. When I brought it in, the woman working there insisted on charging me an extra $16 to "repair" the zipper because there were a few loose threads. She said it needed to be fixed before cleaning to prevent damage. It was literally just a loose thread, but I paid it anyway. I dropped my jacket off on Monday, and the pickup date they gave me was Thursday at 5 PM. I went to collect it, and suddenly my coat wasn't there. She told me to come back the next day. I said okay and called the following day to confirm it was ready before coming in. That's when I was told some nonsense story that my jacket had a stain and needed to be re-cleaned. My jacket had no stain when I brought it in, so what are you talking about? Then she told me to come back Monday. I told her that was impossible because it was -6°C, snowing and raining heavily, and this is my winter coat. I needed it by the next day at the latest. After that, I was given yet another story, this time that the delivery driver couldn't deliver because of the rain. None of this made any sense. I then asked for the store manager's number, and she refused to give it to me. Instead, she tried offering 50% off my next service but there will absolutely NOT be a next time. This morning (Saturday) she finally called to say my coat was ready. When I went to pick it up, I saw that the hardware on my all-black jacket is now completely scratched, to the point that it looks silver instead of black. When I pointed this out, she had the nerve to tell me I brought the jacket in like that and that there was nothing she could do about it. So after keeping my coat two extra days, giving me multiple false explanations, refusing to give me the manager's contact, and damaging my jacket, they still refused to take any responsibility. Terrible service from beginning to end. Zero accountability. And to the business responding to other reviews claiming customers are "scamming" you, trust and believe I have all the time in the world. People deserve to know exactly how this business operates. Don't bother trying to delete this review either, because I will just post another one. I had a horrible experience at Flair cleaners, specifically with the owner. She was argumentative…read moreand condescending over a difference of opinion as to how my clothes should have been altered. She did admit that they messed up the job and she paid for the corrections at another alterations spot around the corner on Yonge St (who I won't mention), but she accused me of all manner of ill intention (including being racist against my own people!) in order to score points in petty arguments that really shouldn't have arisen to begin with. It all centered around my telling her that the style of alteration that was promised to me wasn't the kind that was done (I was told there would be darts in the waist instead of opening the seam on this job). She said that no alterations place would do darts and they couldn't look good so she didn't know why I'd be promised that or why I'd believe it. I assured her that many Caribbean alterations people did darts to accommodate different body shapes (since I have thick thighs and butt compared to my waist). She said I was racist against black people for saying some of us (including myself!) have thicker butts. I assured her I was speaking about myself and I loved myself and was not racist against myself or my people but by then she was in what I would describe as full meltdown mode. Anyway, she told me she'd never want my racist business again and I told her she was crazy. I reaaaaallly try to avoid bad interactions like this so it really took some pretty constant dedication on her part to get me to tell her flat out that she was crazy. She also told me repeatedly about how accomplished she was, how she owned the place and had at least two university degrees (I forget the number now) and she generally seemed absolutely out of her tree during the course of our interactions. I took my poorly altered jeans to a nearby alterations spot and told them the same thing - that my butt and thighs were disproportionally thick for my waist and he replied "It's a long time I'm in business - I have a lot of African and Caribbean clients - I know different body shapes". I didn't even ask him for it but he did darts! Despite Flair Cleaners assertion that nobody would and they couldn't look good! And they are seamless. Perfect. If I knew how to take a photo and upload it I would (and maybe I'll learn how to show the work). And I wasn't called racist against my people and he didn't tell me about his university degrees and his general importance or speak down to me or against me in any way. Night and day experiences. AND he likes me coming back to his shop! I imagine I just caught the owner on several bad days or managed to trigger her somehow, because I can't believe she goes through life interacting with strangers like that on a regular basis. If I could add a 1/2 star for "benefit of the doubt" (since everybody has bad days) I would, but for all she said to me and about me, there's no way I could give 2 stars.

This is really a preliminary review, since I've only just dropped off my pants, and I hope to be writing a positive update when I pick them up. So far: friendly guy, seems confident, and is eager to serve. He offered to have me double check the alteration before I left, which I've never had offered before. It's a mom and pop shop, which I am always eager to support, and the customer service was great. Really friendly, knowledgable and accomodating. Their prices are low, and they have specials if you bring in full suits rather than pieces. The owner has also recognized me from coming in every few weeks and is so nice. I brought a jacket in to get the sleeves shortened and she gave me a "special price" (I wanted to keep a buckle on the sleeve but didn't want to pay too much). They obviously treat their repeat customers well. The service is fast. They do same day work. Their hours are great - open early, late and weekends. They do a great job and I would highly recommend them. They do shoe repairs too, which I haven't tried yet.

When I did the dress was not in with the other dry cleaning. The male owner, hung the dress and went to cash me out. Something seemed off. I asked him to remove the plastic and the dress was RUINED. He was rude and told me he would fix it. I said, no, I will take it somewhere to see if it was fixable and he can compensate me for the damage. He refused.
