I've been bringing my pets to Putnam Veterinary for about 10 years. Overall, I've had a pretty good…read moreexperience, especially in the earlier years when it was a smaller practice run primarily by Dr. DeLong. Back then, the care felt much more personalized and relationship-driven. As the practice has grown, unfortunately, that personal touch has diminished, and visits now feel more transactional. That said, the vets and staff are generally competent and friendly. However, my most recent visit left me feeling quite frustrated. The exam itself cost $100 -- a bit on the high side, but something I was willing to tolerate for quality care. What really upset me was the cost of the prescribed medication: 15 pills priced at $80. Out of curiosity, I looked it up online and found the exact same prescription, in the same dosage, available on Chewy for just $20. When I called to ask about the price difference, I was given an explanation about "economies of scale," which frankly doesn't hold up -- not at that level of markup. A 400% price increase over a reputable online retailer is excessive by any standard. While I still value the veterinary services and will continue to bring my pets here for medical care, I will no longer purchase medications directly from the clinic. It's unfortunate, because I would have gladly paid a reasonable premium for the convenience and to support the practice -- but this level of price inflation is simply not justifiable. I hope they reconsider their pricing structure in the future. Until then, I recommend getting prescriptions filled elsewhere.

We reached out to her by email to see about her availability and she answered promptly. She had an appointment within a week, which we took. She confirmed back she would see us at that time. She showed up right on time on our scheduled day. She was kind, patient, and gentle towards our girl. The first shot for sedation and to eliminate any pain was done expertly and without any discomfort to our kitty. Once she was sedated Dr. Maxfield let us take all the time we needed to say good-bye. Losing a beloved pet is never easy, but being able to use in-home euthanasia by someone as skilled and caring as Dr. Maxfield eases the pain. Highest recommendation for her.

I cannot begin to relay how heartbreaking our need for Dr Maxfields services was. Our almost 12…read moreyear old Pit-bull was recently diagnosed with osteosarcoma. It came out of nowhere and debilitated her very quickly. The day came when we knew that we needed to put our desires to keep her with us aside as it was outweighed by her need for peace. It was a Friday evening and another vet that we were reffered to by a friend advised us we were out of her service area and gave us a few names in our area. After thoroughly reviewing the options we decided that Dr Maxfield would best fit our needs. I called and left a v-mail and heard back from her via text very quickly. She gave me the options of the following day or Monday and we didn't want to risk our baby breaking a leg or something horrible happening between Friday and Monday so we went with Saturday. She let me know it could be early afternoon. She called in the morning and told me the time and answered any questions I had, although I didn't have many as her website is very informative. It was a beautiful day. The birds were chirping, the hawks were squawking, it was not humid or too hot or overcast in any way. We brought our baby girl out to the deck with her bed and she enjoyed the warm sun and cool breeze. When Dr Maxfield got there she gently introduced herself to our sweet girl and then explained exactly what she would do and about how long the process would take. She comforted us by listening to what we and our sweet girl had been going through for the last 6 weeks. She listened while we told her all about our sweet baby girl and how she came to be ours. She let us know we were making the right decision and that if it was her she would have done the same thing. This helped us immensely. She was so kind and compassionate and so considerate of our feelings. She allowed us to take all the time we needed to say goodbye. She made all of the arrangements with the local pet crematory and she delivered our sweet girl there herself. We didn't need to worry about a thing. I know how heartbreaking it is to make the decision to give a furbaby their angel wings and end their suffering, but it makes it just a bit easier knowing you have someone so caring, like Dr. Maxfield there to ease them in their transition.

Since we have two dogs and with the prices most Vets charge today, we've been taking them too Petco Vaccination Clinics to save money. Recently, they would not renew our dogs Rx without seeing the dog first. My wife made an appointment, relayed to me how the dog acted/behaved, and mentioned the receptionist said sorry and felt bad for my wife having to bring the dog in. I finally became irate about the situation when coming back home yesterday from a few nights trip up north and hearing how bad he was with our neighbor/dog sitter. Both dogs were excited to see their owners as one would imagine. However, we could not get our 5 yr old GSP to calm down most of the afternoon when at that point I felt bad for the dog. Before anyone thinks "these dog owners have no idea the energy levels of a GSP (German Shorthaired Pointer)" I must add I'm 53 and have had this breed my entire life. The dog went 9 days without his meds because we had to make an appointment and be prescribed a new Rx. Granted they (WVCA) received from us 3 months ago a clean bill of health from a licensed veterinarian (Petco). In addition, VCA has changed their Rx process and will no longer accept eRx requests from outside pharmacy's (i.e. PedMeds, Chewy, etc..). Clients will either need to purchase medications through VCA ($$$$) or they can obtain a paper copy to send via snail mail to the outside pharmacy which further delays the process of obtaining medications. Trust me, there is no staffing shortage at VCA to handle such requests as there are about 2-3 receptionists at the front desk. Mind you, we were able to obtain 6 days' worth of medications for our dog, however, a 3 MONTHS supply from PedMeds is only $10 more than obtaining a 6 day supply at VCA!! Take this into consideration before choosing to take your pet there. As of today, we are done using them.

Our consult was with Nance, and she was very patient in explaining the process and talking us through some initial things that we were struggling with. Then, we started with a training package that included 3 private training classes and 2 months of group obedience classes. We also went to a few puppy kindergarten classes. Nicole did the majority of our trainings and she has been a god-sent. She is very good with the dogs, and her energy level makes the training classes fun both for us and our dog. We learned a lot from Nicole and she helped us to feel a lot less stressed out and actually enjoy the puppyhood. The obedience class is set up like a monthly subscription, where you can go to as many classes as you want. We end up going about 3-4 times a week for 30 minutes, as it is a great activity to mentally exercise our dog and provide socialization while working alongside other dogs. We also started bringing our dog to their dog day camp 2x a week. Tim was also very patient in explaining the process. The dog day camp has been great in getting her to play with other dogs and allows her to learn obedience from others aside from us.
