Overall we had a great experience at ARTECHOUSE DC. This unique experience is great for groups of all sizes and all ages. While we were there we saw families with toddlers, couple on dates, and groups of friends attending. We did expect the first immersive large room to be more "all-encompassing", meaning, we thought when you walked in that the ceiling and all four walls would be completely enclosed by the artwork. That wasn't quite the case since the ceiling and one of the walls were still exposed. A bar was positioned on the open side of the exhibit so you could look over towards the art. We really enjoyed the rooms with the flashlights and the "singing" plants! Some of the artwork wasn't as interactive as we hoped, but we really appreciated the detail and design of the artwork as it was. We would visit here again with friends, but we were hoping it would be just a bit "more".

I was a little underwhelmed with the exhibit. I was expecting a little bit more interactive activities or diverse visuals, and the space was smaller than it looked. I did like the educational areas surrounding the big open area, and I did like scanning the QR code for a 4D live image/video of the sea creatures in our exhibit. I just wish there was more to see/do. The big open area with the lights was also crowded & it was hard to find a spot to take nice photos. They do provide you cushions to sit down on the ground though. If you don't sit to watch the lights video (about 15ish minutes for the entirety of the show), you won't need the full hour of your reservation.

Artechouse has been hit or miss for me. It really depends on the exhibit. The first time I visited, I was a little underwhelmed by the red laser exhibit. It was cool to watch for a few minutes, but soon I became bored. Perhaps I'm not cultured enough to appreciate such art. The next time was for their spring blooms exhibit. That one was immersive, gorgeous, and the extraneous rooms were filled with fun activities too. I loved that visit and the drink I had at the bar. Most recently, I visited for their deep sea exhibit and got extremely nauseous. It was unexpected. I don't usually get sick from flashing lights, but something about the exhibit was the opposite of the red lasers one: too overwhelming. I sat in one of the side rooms for a bit to gain my bearings, but did not stay long overall and didn't feel like my ticket price was worth it. I'd go back selectively if there's an installation that sounds really cool, but I might pack some anti-nausea meds next time.

I love ARTECHOUSE. I go yearly for their cherry blossom exhibits, but I've attended other ones too. I always have a great time and I've taken guests, who also love it. The staff is friendly and kind. The exhibits are always wondrous and exciting and I love just letting them wash over me so I can vibe with the art. Visiting is truly a magical experience. I also really enjoy their cocktails. I've had a few and liked all of them. I do wish it was a little more accessible, as there are steps to get in and out of the exhibit. Digital art is a cool medium and they do it well here. I always looking forward to going to ARTECHOUSE.

I've been to this location plenty of times since I'm an educator but I love to experience. My students loved it and they were are to find their creative energy in the arts. Definitely a fun field trip

During a cousin's weekend, we decided to come here after brunch. Since we didn't pre purchase our tickets, we paid about $40 for our tickets and waited about 15 minutes before actually entering. I found the installation to be very trippy. Folks were seated and enjoying the different images in the main room. There are smaller side rooms with cool themes and information in them. I did find it to be underwhelming, especially for the price.

First timer review! ($20pp) Me and my friend had a great experience here. However I think our expectations were a little too high prior to the actual experience. I definitely envisioned it to be a lot bigger than it was. We spent approximately 20 minutes here. You walk in and wait until youre guided down the steps and shown a video of why the Artechouse opened up. After the video you are let into the virtual art room. Theres a bar and the virtual art is projected throughout the whole are. There are little walk ways with body motion detected art. There were a lot of people sitting around in the main room and we had to wait a few minutes for some of the motion art.

My cousin and sister came to visit and we wanted to do some touristy things and decided to visit this museum. My sister had raved about the exhibit they had at Art basal Miami and since we love Art basal, it was a no brainer. We paid about $40 for last minute tickets and the wait time was no more than 15 minutes. This exhibit is located deep in the basement and it was rather chilly, like uncomfortably too cold for me. As much as I wanted to enjoy it, I was also ready to bail as soon as my family was satisfied. The focal point of the room is this big open room that has 3D imaging throughout of the ecosystem. There are other side rooms with similar themes. Not going to lie, it was a bit trippy and def not recommended if you suffer from any visual impairment or seizure disorders. Also, I felt like some of the visitors may have been on a psychedelic, just saying. Honestly I wanted a bit more and left feeling kinda underwhelmed. Maybe if I bought advance tickets at a cheaper rate, I would've seen the value.

Very beautiful exhibits, and a different kind of experience. Everything was clean cut and modern. The visual art was colorful and just makes you smile. It's definitely an unusual experience, but super fun and unique in a way that will just make you happy. They have a main room where they present about a 20 min show. The one we saw was an anime style cherry blossom theme. The experience makes you feel like you're flying, and is very peaceful. Surrounding that area are a few other interactive activities like karaoke, a robot arm that draws pictures, and interactive projections that you can play around with. The bar located when you first walk in is definitely pricy, but the drinks seemed interesting and different. Make sure to download the app and play around with the 'markers' they give you at the bar. Staff is very friendly, and you can tell that some of them are extremely passionate about the tech-art they show off. Highly recommended, as I don't think there is any other experience like this in DC, and yet it is super fun for the whole group.

The venue was a decent size and most of the art was interactive. The kids loved it but became bored after the first 30min or so. I enjoyed the scavenger hunt and the staff was very friendly throughout the exhibit. It was a nice experience and worth the money we paid for tickets. The selection of exhibits was nice and everything was holiday themed.

Such a great experience with my lady. We enjoy the cherry blossom experience that was showcased here. Also, there were many other things to do outside of this event as well. We will definitely come again when it reopens next year.

Beyond the light

My first review at Artechouse but my second time here! The first time I went, it was the cherry blossom festival so it was themed this way. Beautifully decorated! I recently went 2 days ago for the beyond the lights exhibit. The colors and lighting was really cool, but it's a very small exhibit. Many of their displays were redundant. I do like that they added the option now to have drinks but I also don't like that they don't allow you to walk around with your beverage so you're restricted to stay at the bar. As for pricing, they offer discounts for first responders and students but only for time slots before 7 PM (the time restriction is a bit silly in my opinion). I would consider revisiting for a different exhibit (like the holiday version) but i don't think I would come back to see anything I've already seen.

Really great small galley experience with incredible interactive art features (depending on the exhibit). They do timed entry so the exhibit doesn't get too packed but I recommend going earlier I. The day so that you have less competition. There are elevators and lifts for accessibility purposes. For those who are light sensitive, I'd think twice about attending as the main exhibit which has images projected on three of four walls. There is a lot of motion in the main gallery wall (in the exhibit wall) so may have a similar effect or sensation to strobe lights

The gallery opened in 1941 thanks to financier and art lover Andrew W. Mellon, who believed the American people deserved a museum every bit as grand as those in Europe. Built in gleaming marble by architect John Russell Pope, the place feels less like a museum and more like walking through a royal treasury of creativity. One room might greet you with the grace of Raphael, while another lets you stare straight into the swirling brilliance of Vincent van Gogh. And here's the delicious little detail: this world-class collection began with just over a hundred paintings and a few dozen sculptures from Mellon's personal stash ehis gift to the nation. Today the gallery holds well over 150,000 works, spanning centuries of human imagination. It's the kind of place where you wander in for a quick look and suddenly find yourself rubbing elbows with masterpieces that usually live in textbooks. No velvet ropes, no fancy invitation required just walk in and enjoy the riches. Now that's what I call art with a little champagne sparkle.

Some of the outdoor sculptures were visible, though a few pieces were either being relocated or blocked off. There were not many, so it made for a quick walk around the circular exterior. Upon entering, we went through security, which led into the main lobby where there is also a café. The coffee was both expensive and underwhelming, so I would recommend grabbing a drink elsewhere. The museum has three floors, and I found it easiest to start at the top and work your way down. *Laurie Anderson Four Talks: one of my favorite exhibits. The installation was fully immersive, covering the entire room. The writing and drawings across all four walls really brought the concept together. *Adam Pendleton Love Queen: a visually striking exhibit that transitions into a black and white video. While the artwork itself did not resonate with me as much, the video left both me and other visitors in a quiet, reflective state. *Revolutions Art from the Hirshhorn Collection: more traditional in style and subject matter. I did wish there was more context provided for some of the pieces, especially the sculptures, as a few lacked historical explanation. *Basquiat x Banksy: a more modern collection that reflects themes of racial and class divide. The bold colors and strong perspectives made this one of the more engaging sections. *Big Things For Big Rooms: a bit too literal for my taste, as it largely consisted of oversized objects without much added depth. *Mark Bradford Pickett's Charge: an older but well maintained exhibit. The circular layout of the museum complemented the work nicely. The textures and use of color were particularly compelling. The gift shop offered a wide range of items, including pieces inspired by past exhibitions and collaborations. I especially liked the Basquiat and Banksy merchandise, though it was nice to see representation from other collections as well. Overall, this is an easy museum to explore in one visit. Only 1000 printed and most burned by natives during their revolt against colonists), and a John Wycliffe Bible (first Bible in the English Language, before the printing press so was hand-written)! The collection has entire lineage of Bibles in many languages. Amazingly impressive! We were lucky as they had the Dead Sea Scrolls on exhibit during our visit (extra ticket charge, but well worth it given the rare opportunity). This is a temporary showcase. I have seen them before at another venue but this was even more well done. The Dead Sea Scrolls are biblical text found in 1940s and 1950s that date back 2000 years. The accuracy of Biblical text today was in question until this discovery. Miraculously, our current text matches the text from the time of Jesus. They setup 6 free online meetings throughout the year so people can discuss the scrolls with scholars. Beyond the Bibles, they have many video exhibits that are really well done. The Old and New Testament walk-through video journeys were incredible. We opted for the "All Creation Sings" exhibit which has additional fee. I was not overly excited. The main message is good, highlighting worship is not just about singing but about how we live. However I was really hoping for some good worship music. It ends with a weird interactive experience where you approach the wall and cause color to explode with your body movements, which really didn't feel like a worship experience. People with background in Christianity and the Bible will learn a lot. They also donated good job explaining the Bible for those not super familiar with the text. It is azing how they reach both audiences. They also have many child exhibits and games throughout to keep the little kiddos engaged. Highly recommend a visit when you are in DC.
