It was like stepping back in time to a 19th century French atelier. Hans Schuler had Howard Sill build him a private sculpture studio in 1906. Schuler was a prominent, early 20th century sculptor, who created many sculptures in Baltimore, and served as president of the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) for more than 25 years. The school, which opened in 1959, has been training students in the methods and techniques of the Old Masters and is still going strong. We were able to see the two story sculpture studio with its natural light pouring in thru the northern skylight. We were given a delightful tour by Jim and spent time talking with Fritz and Francesca, descendants of Hans and Ann Schuler.

I got a very rare disease called Sarcoidosis which is very debilitating. I felt I could no longer do the program due to its demanding schedule. I wanted my $4,500 back. Kessler said "he wasn't in the habit of taking money from people and not providing a service" in one conversation. However, he refused to give any of it back. The program was not full and he probably was hurting for money. Just be careful this guy. Make sure you've done your due diligence. He offered to hold the money and I could sign up in 3 years. No thank you. I'm out $4,500 and he's sitting pretty.

I didn't felt like my culture was respected ( I'm an immigrant) and understood. There were way too many part time faculties here didn't really cared about the quality of the class. Also some professors just don't care about students' mental health. I get it's a high ranking school but it's not very encouraging to people that are introverted and needed help. Overall a waste of money , still paying back, no design job found since

MICA MICA MICA... wow where do I even begin…read more.. I graduated from here in 2014. Can't believe 4 years flew by just like that. Do I miss it? Do I love it? Was it everything I expected? The answer is no. Art school was probably one of the toughest things I've gone through. It has been kind of rewarding throughout the 4 years. I got to travel the world, study abroad, work abroad, opportunities knocked on my door instead of me having to pursue it. The graphic design program here is incredibly strong.

I can only comment on stained glass classes at the Columbia Art Center, as I haven't participated…read morein any other programs. However, these classes have been absolutely amazing. There are a couple different classes you can take to get introduced to stained glass, like creating a dragonfly. Then as your skills improve you can take classes to make large panels or even lamps. The later classes are very open ended so you can learn different skills based on your experience and make pieces that match your interests. The classes are competitively priced and often include all materials. The facility has lots of supplies and tools that you can use, so you rarely need to bring anything except your own ideas. The instructors are extremely experienced, especially Donna, and are patient and willing to work with you. I've created a couple pieces at the Columbia Art Center and I'm excited to see what I can make in the future!
