With the exhibition now spanning nearly the entire season, there's still plenty of time to experience this wonderful showcase of local artistic talent. Admission is free, and the gallery is open to the public every day from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm, even when the office is closed. Since 1924, the North Shore Art League has remained dedicated to its stated mission of "enriching the human spirit through art education and exhibitions". We found that the art gallery space of the North Shore Art League was bright, airy, and pleasant, with the exhibition thoughtfully and professionally curated. All the staff whom we had encountered were friendly and welcoming. If you are in the area, I highly recommend you stopping by the Northshore Art League, on the second floor of the Winnetka Community House, to see "Summer Open". Part of the exhibited art work were even for sale. There is a great variety of beautiful 2D art to choose from. A portion of all sales supports the North Shore Art League, a not-for-profit, 501©(3) organization.

I signed up for one design but they are very flexible on what designs you do when you are there, you just have to use the board you signed up for. They also have lazy Susan classes. I saw that they previously did a Chicago bears logo class so I asked to do that and they printed me the picture to trace. The class was 3 hours and it took us the whole time. You have to be patient when wood burning. I really liked my final art! We were provided with instructions on how to take care of it and washing instructions so we can use it with food. I like that it is BYOB! The owner, Krystina, led our class. She was so friendly, patient, and provided great instructions. I'm addicted to wood burning! I will definitely be back!

When we first met with her, we were even more happy as she was able to offer us great suggestions in designing our custom made ketubah. Judith is incredible! She's talented beyond belief, her ketubahs are true works of art as she puts everything into her art work and that feeling is definitely portrayed through the beauty of her pieces. It sounded like a structured program where children would be introduced to new techniques and build artistic skills. That was not the experience we had. Instead, much of the week consisted of coloring pages and free drawing with very little instruction. To make matters worse, my child came home upset after being told by one of the teachers that they weren't doing their art the "right" way, which seemed completely at odds with the camp's stated philosophy of encouraging creativity. I agree with another review that described this as feeling more like basic childcare than an instructional art camp. If that's the type of environment you're looking for, it may be a good fit. But if you're expecting the variety of classes and hands-on art instruction advertised on the website, our experience did not match those expectations.

Their website makes it seem like they have distinct classes throughout the day. Instead my daughter worked on drawings of pokemon throughout the day with little to no instruction or guidance. She did mention day 2 someone helping her learn how to layer colors on a preprinted coloring page. I am so disappointed and angry and feel like this place misrepresents what they offer. If they were up front about creating an environment for kids to be self directed with art without a published schedule at least I'd know what I was signing up for. When I spoke with the person in charge (manager? owner? She never introduced herself) I was told that my daughter had selected to sit by herself and that they provide a stress free environment for creating art. I would have liked to be informed that this was happening so I could check in with my daughter but instead I was only told this when I expressed anger at wasting my money. Feel free to give them your money if you'd like to spend it on glorified babysitting.

Months later I purchased 4 paintings from a local artist and stopped back in to get 3 of them framed by Michael. He took about 2 weeks to frame them and did a beautiful job...and once again hung them and another painting for me. I love supporting local and Michael is a lovely man with gorgeous artwork and impeccable framing/hanging skills so look forward to being a longtime customer.

On one hand this is great, but on the other hand one doesn't get experience with cutting or using a pattern. My 14 yo did enjoy it, but it was very basic and she didn't really pick up many skills. What was super is that they made a new project every day. Just know some of the sizing will be enormous as it's not really tailored to your kiddo. This is ok, just an fyi. The pj pants probably fit someone 6'4" (luckily her dad is this height!). Overall, enjoyable experience and very nice instructors. The summer week camps would be ideal for tweens. We will be back to try a more advanced class.

I sent my 8 year old to a Glee Camp at Bach to Rock with friends on a day off from school last…read morespring. All the kids came out smiling from ear to ear saying they wanted to take singing lessons. But my own spirited daughter said forget singing...she saw a drum set at Bach to Rock and thought that looked way more fun. She's asking for a new activity every few weeks so I tend to ignore her requests until she asks at least a dozen times...and she kept asking. Finally I agreed to drum lessons if she went to Glencoe Academy of Music since it's so close to my house. I'm all about the least amount of driving possible being a busy working mom of 3 kids. She agreed and I sent an email to Glencoe Music Academy asking for info...and very quickly heard back from Brandon who got us scheduled with Mark. Glencoe Music Academy may be convenient, but the lessons would be well worth it even if we had to drive there. Mark is patient, fun and my daughter comes out with a huge smile every week. To be honest I thought drumming was just making a lot of banging noise, but I've been really surprised (and pleased) with how much coordination is involved w/ playing the drums...and it's been fun to see her make progress. She also has a bunch of friends who take guitar lessons with Carlos and are very pleased as well. The lessons themselves are pretty expensive, but I think that's to be expected when it comes to private music lessons. I haven't agreed to an expensive (and loud!) drum set quite yet, but Mark has offered a few times that he can come with us to the store to help us pick one out when/if the time comes. In the meantime, I'm happy with her playing on her little amazon pad to keep the noise down a bit in my house.

Situated in the middle of downtown Glencoe, next to Foodstuffs, the studio is easy to get to and has plenty of parking with a public lot right behind the building. If you are thinking of taking up an instrument or want to work on your karaoke skills (seriously Kay Rutherford is an amazing vocal instructor), GAM is the place to go. All the instructors are performers in their own right and have the skills, patience and knowledge to make you a better performer!

Today was that day. First of all, take note...it is not the fancy looking building you see in the distance when you almost accidentally enter the Skokie Country Club. The Little House is around the corner and looks like a cottage by the river, except without the river. Mind you, this place is tucked away from most of everything, and I imagine you might encounter some wildlife visitors in the evening. Mind you, on your way to the House you'll have to pass by gorgeous multimillion dollar homes. The trip alone is worth it! It's a place to escape and get away from it all. You can camp with your family and friends, and enjoy modern amenities like a kitchen, bathroom, and fireplace. Comes with an outdoor fire pit area, a grill, and picnic tables. Little House is run by a volunteer board, and according to the website it's mission is to provide a unique meeting place in a natural setting. Rent it during the day, overnight ($190), or a few hours for an event if you like. BTW, only 4 out 5 stars because I could only steal a peek and I haven't stayed there. What a hidden gem. Just so very cool.
