The museum focuses on the story of Southeast Alaska's Native people that began 10,000 years ago and continues today. The centerpiece of the museum is a replica of a clan house, as well as exhibits with one-of a-kind Native art. Admission to the "Nathan Jackson Gallery Exhibit" was $7.00 for me; $5.00 for my elder (65+) husband (June, 2025). There is also a large shop with authentic, unique, and high-quality Native arts, as well as other souvenirs. Visits to the museum and purchases directly support Alaska Native artists, workshops, indigenous language revitalization, and cross-cultural programming. The building itself, as well as the tall totem poles outside, are photo-worthy. We have mixed feelings about our visit. It was confusing upon entering the building. The gift shop was on the left; museum on the right -- but it wasn't clear where to buy tickets for the museum. After buying the tickets in the gift shop, we proceeded to the museum. No staff were on-site. While well-maintained, it was quite small with only a few rooms -- the clan room/auditorium and rooms with individual art and artifacts. However, there was no context for the significance of these items to the Native cultures. Others have commented on the usefulness of on-site docents; unfortunately, this was not our experience. We're atreating our visit as a donation towards the objectives of the Institute; otherwise, the price of admission is high given the experience. As for free activities, it's definitely worth a visit to see the totem poles and to drop-in to the excellent gift shop.

A very dignified docent takes you on a tour of a tribal meeting and living building, displays of native arts and historical video and slide shows. Cost is $7 for people aged 7 years old and up. Seniors are $4. You cannot enter without a paid ticket. Nothing is in depth, so it will not take you long to take it all in. But Alaska IS different from lower 48 cultures and peoples. Certainly this is well worth your time when you are passing through Juneau.

It was a driftwood, ceramic, and metal hanging art piece. It had culture pieces from the area and was something we would love to have in our home year round. The staff there are knowledgeable, informed of shipping and the pieces they carry. Explaining a lot of how they have the selection they do. Even though they were busy she made us feel like we were important and not rushed. She also multi tasked like a fiend and assisted others while we thought over whether or not to ship. We decided to ship and the staff checked on the price which was very reasonable considering the size and fragility of the piece. We paid and waited for the item when we got home. In my rush I did not ask key questions or remember the answer to the questions I asked at the store. I blame the drink package. Well I messaged the store and the manager/owner was also helpful beyond the time difference and my randomness. Even though it takes effort to get there when we come back to Alaska I hope to see this shop there and if it's not in the same location I'm okay calling an uber to get taken there. 15/10. Highly recommend. When we got the package home it was wrapped beyond well. It was wrapped with the care that this person liked their job and wanted to do it well. Well, a day into my bucket list trip with my Pops in Alaska, I was in full on regret. I wanted a real camera; not my iPhone. Art is the guy. He is honest, knows his cameras, and is the kinda guy you love and wish you lived the life of. Art gave me a price on the X-T2 that was literally $800 less that every place in LA. The selection was limited, as it didn't include Sony or Canon, but Art explained the markups on those brands were BS and those companies didn't give him a margin to make any profit selling. That's honest. In summation, Art is a gem. Probably worth flying to Juneau just to purchase a Fuji camera from him.

There is a short film you can watch about the city. The exhibits are mainly centered around mining and the local tribes. Excellent museum for the tourists but the locals will walk away with plenty of value for themselves from it as well. Very friendly and informative staff which is always a good thing!

That's the exact weather we were faced with and we found the museum about a 15 minute walk from the port. This was the largest museum we encountered on our Alaska cruise and one of the best. Lovely displays of native art and key moments of Alaska history. Nice lockers for all your cold weather/rain gear as well! Definitely worth a visit.

I am a collector of tokens and medals, and I bought a large handful there at prices that were reasonable to low. Their prices on Pendleton blankets (the best blankets ever) are reasonable, but we had luggage-space problems, so we didn't buy any. My wife and I both spent quite a bit here, and are still pleased with what we bought. Next time we are in Juneau, it is definitely on our list!

I found a 1930's Tin Litho of an Ocean Liner from a travel agency. Rare and hard to find in the condition of this one. It was large and expensive and would have to be shipped to California. After chatting with John for a while, he made me feel comfortable about making the purchase and the shipping. It arrived in a couple of weeks. It was super well packaged and arrived in excellent condition with no issues. If you have a chance when in Juneau I highly recommend that you stop by and visit John and his very knowledgeable team. It is a very unique shop with a variety of interesting items and a very nice Pendelton shop as well. Thanks John.
