I'm definitely a contemporary art lover. Biennales, art fairs, installations, street art, urban interventions...I like everything that makes me think about the art boundaries. When I moved to Manila, I was missing this kind of universe. It's not that it didn't exist here - of course it does, and the Art Fair Philippines is a proof - but I simply didn't know where to find it. In other words: I didn't have the local art map yet. Thanks to Art Fair Philippines, I could find out what's going on here. And believe me: there's a lot of art going on!

There are mainstream artists and also young ones who are giving the first steps in this gallery thing. I saw painting, sculptures, installations, photography, video-installations and lots of languages.
It was nice for me, as a foreigner, to observe the themes that instigate local artists. Art has this power of talking about a whole society, with its issues and urgencies. If you want to know more about the Philippines, start by knowing its art. Said that, consider Art Fair Philippines as a mandatory visit! read more
