It is very frustrating to be chasing company you paid your money to, to get them do their work. It…read moreis even more upsetting to watch your staircase is turning into ugly fixture.. We had District Stairs's owner's full attention only once, after i posted photos of defective railing parts online. 10 mins after review was posted our phone was ringing nonstop, 20 mins later mr Marlon B. was at our doorstep asking to take pics down. After he sent contractors to fix railing parts and misaligned pickets, he still was arguing with us about stair railing which wasn't connecting to posts properly. I then posted an honest review. He emailed threatening to sue us for slander. When that didn't work, he moved to attacking us online. District Stairs is no more than a middle man between customer and average contractor. Their show room is just that - for show. If customer is unhappy and asks for refund, mr Marlon forces them to finish the project by bringing up breach of contract. If review is posted, he simply requests Google to remove it. On the other websites his way of damage control is to discredit the reviewer. Thankfully we did stair treads and risers ourselves, so at least we were left with the damage that is fixable, like new post connectors and steel fillet extensions. The question remains why mr Marlon didn't let us know that the posts we picked are not compatible with the old fillet

I hired Marlon B. April 2018 to redo my stairs. He brought great materials but promptly destroyed…read moremy original staircase and the new materials. He tore out the original stair treads and installed new ones - they creak like crazy. He advised that was because the original treads were installed with screws and these were not. He drilled holes into the stair treads at least twice the size of the iron pickets so the pickets just hang and have no support. The iron pickets were not done with cap and screw (I was told after that was the standard) on top and the screws were just put into the empty picket. The pickets are all installed on an angle as Marlon drilled the holes in the stair treads without aligning with the rails. I had requested stained risers and treads, ended up with white risers as Marlon sanded the risers and they could no longer be stained. Some of the risers do not reach the stair tread leaving a gap. The original risers were destroyed when the original treads were removed - not enough support now. He originally used a gel stain that was almost black (my floor is light to medium brown) and then he sanded the stairs to redo the stain and I ended up with dust all over my home. The posts were cut on a slant and are installed slanted and not really attached properly as they move. My rails were taken off and one was broken on the bottom and 2 were cut too shorts. There is a big hole in the wall where the rail reinstalled. There are gaps between the rails and posts, between the stair treads and risers - all were filled with wood filler which has now all cracked with stair use and look terrible and cannot be salvaged. A stair tread was not wide enough so 2 risers were installed to cover the gap. This is among other problems. I will be pursuing legal action.
