I recently saw some of Anthony Hansen's art work in a Hayes Valley gallery (arg, can't remember the name) and was smitten.
He's a metal artist and uses found and reclaimed pieces from cars. I'd call it metal collage. He uses text from license plates to form words (I adore text in art, not sure why), or stamps phrases directly onto the metal. Some of his work, like the big hearts with stamped phrases, is sweet without being trite; the metal makes it gritty while the shape and text gives it extended meaning.
I think art is like wine. You should learn about it but in the end you should buy it because it speaks to you personally. His work is definitely worth checking out, then you can make your own decisions. read more
