We arrived 9 minutes late, for an early morning appt, there were no other people in the waiting room, not even one. She simply said Doctor can't fit you in today he's very busy. You are 10 minutes late. At first I thought she was joking, due to that fact that we were the only ones in the waiting room. But she said no, you must reschedule. Absolutely ZERO compassion for this woman or what it takes to get to her to appointments. I apologized for being late, and asked if she could please try to fit her in. Helms Optical on the beltline kind of close to knapps corner was approved by my instance so I stopped in to make a routine checkup appointment. I believe there are 1-2 doctors other than the owner Dr.helms. In the two years I have been going I have worked with her and Doctor Brown, both were extremely friendly and knowledgable. They spend the time to ask you the right questions and don't try to sell products too hard. Overall an awesome local office with fun people who make going to the eye doctor not so bad.

When I contacted them, they had no record of my son's trial daily lenses or what brand he used even though he has been seeing them for several years. The receptionist had to ask me for my lens prescription, I'm not sure why she couldn't just look it up in my file? Originally our prescriptions were able to be sent to us via email, but when called, they told us they could no longer send them. Then when they did give us them in person, they were the wrong prescriptions. I tried several sets of trial lenses and none of them worked, plus I had to call to find out if they were in yet. Nobody ever contacted me. It took over a month to get my prescriptions readjusted. I was first seen in April of 2025, and didn't get a correct prescription update until June of 2025. I've tried to go there in person twice when they were supposed to be open, and they had closed earlier than indicated on their door and on their website. My trial contacts took over 3 weeks to come in and I had to call to find out they were in. In October of 2025 I received a bill for my visits back in April. I'm not sure why they didn't bill them for Insurance when I was seen the first time. Clearly the organization needs a stronger team. I recently called Lowell Eye Care several weeks before my CostCo optical appointment. I requested to have my records sent to Costco since I would be changing my optometrist. My files were never sent over after being requested. I will no longer be Lowell Eye Care.

After completing the paperwork I was walked back to start my appointment, almost immediately. This is always a great perk to not have to sit and wait for who knows how long due to someone being behind schedule. I really liked that the assistants get the process starting by asking some questions and doing a couple of the first tests. After I was done with that portion I was personally walked into the exam room and greeted by Dr. Goodfellow just a few moments after. Dr. Goodfellow did a great job at asking me questions, learning more about me and my issues. Through learning more about me, he was able to give some great advice with even better reasons to back up his professional advice. I left with a totally new prescription that fit my eyes WAY better than my previous. I especially like that he wasn't afraid to give me a weaker prescription than my current one - this to me feels like he isn't trying to make my eyes worse and keep me coming back for new prescriptions and really just trying to create the best solution for me on the spot.
